11 Signs That We Are Entering the Next Phase of the Global Economic Crisis

Well, the Nasdaq finally did it. It has climbed all the way back to where it was at the peak of the dotcom bubble. Back in March 2000, the Nasdaq set an all-time record high of 5,048.62. On Thursday, after all these years, that all-time record was finally eclipsed. The Nasdaq closed at 5056.06, and Wall Street greatly rejoiced. So if you invested in the Nasdaq at the peak of the dotcom bubble, you are just finally breaking even 15 years later. Unfortunately, the truth is that stocks have not been soaring because the U.S. economy is fundamentally strong. Just like the last two times, what we are witnessing is an irrational financial bubble. Sometimes these irrational bubbles can last for a surprisingly long time, but in the end they always burst. And even now there are signs of economic trouble bubbling to the surface all around us. The following are 11 signs that we are entering the next phase of the global economic crisis…

#1 It is being projected that half of all fracking companies in the United States will be “ dead or sold” by the end of this year.

#2 The rig count just continues to fall as the U.S. oil industry implodes. Incredibly, the number of rigs in operation in the United States has fallen for 19 weeks in a row.

#3 McDonald’ s has announced that it will be closing 700 “ poor performing” restaurants in 2015. Why would McDonald’ s be doing this if the economy was actually getting better?

Remaining in the Eurozone is No Longer ‘The Base Case’ For Greece

According to the Wall Street Journal, Greece staying in the eurozone is no longer “ the base case” for European officials, and one even told the Journal that “ literally nothing has been achieved” in negotiations with the new Greek government since the Greek election almost three months ago. In other words, you can take all of that stuff you heard about how the Greek crisis was fixed and throw it out the window. Over the next few months, a big chunk of Greek government bonds held by the IMF and the European Central Bank will mature. Unless negotiations produce a load of new cash for Greece, there will be a default, and right now there is very little optimism that we will see an agreement any time soon. In fact, as I wrote about the other day, behind the scenes banks all over Europe are quietly preparing for a Grexit. European news sources are reporting that the Greek banking system is on the verge of collapse, and over the past couple of weeks Greek bond yields have shot through the roof. Most of the things that we would expect to see in the lead up to a Greek exit from the eurozone are happening, and now we will wait and see if the Greeks actually have the guts to pull the trigger when push comes to shove.

At this point, many top European officials are quietly admitting that it is more likely than not that Greece will leave the euro by the end of this year. The following is an excerpt from the Wall Street Journal article that I mentioned above…

Why is JP Morgan Accumulating the Biggest Stockpile of Physical Silver in History?

Why in the world has JP Morgan accumulated more than 55 million ounces of physical silver?

Since early 2012, JP Morgan’s stockpile has grown from less than 5 millionounces of physical silver to more than 55 million ounces of physical silver. Clearly, someone over at JP Morgan is convinced that physical silver is a great investment. But in recent times, the price of silver has actually fallen quite a bit. As I write this, it is sitting at the ridiculously low price of $15.66 an ounce. So up to this point, JP Morgan’s investment in silver has definitely not paid off. But it will pay off in a big way if we will soon be entering a time of great financial turmoil.

During a time of crisis, investors tend to flood into physical gold and silver. And as I mentioned just recently, JPMorgan Chase chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon recently stated that “there will be another crisis” in a letter to shareholders…

“Some things never change — there will be another crisis, and its impact will be felt by the financial market…”

2 Nuke Launch Officers Face Illegal Drug Charges

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two more Air Force nuclear missile launch officers have been charged with illegal drug use in cases stemming from an investigation that led to the disclosure last year of a separate exam-cheating scandal, the Air Force said Friday.

1st Lt. Michael Alonso and 1st Lt. Lantz Balthazar, both members of the 12th Missile Squadron at the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, face hearings to determine whether they will be court-martialed. One of their fellow missile officers who was a target of the same investigation pleaded guilty to illegal drug use in January and was kicked out of the Air Force.

The Malmstrom missile wing operates 150 of the Air Force’s 450 Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missiles, or ICBMs. Launch officers are trained to operate ICBMs that are armed with nuclear warheads and are on constant alert for possible launch.

Alonso was charged with violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice for illegal possession, use and distribution of ecstasy and for “conspiracy related to the drug offenses,” according to Malmstrom spokesman Josh Aycock.

Balthazar was charged with illegal possession, use and distribution of ecstasy and cocaine and for conspiracy related to the drug offenses. He also was charged with illegal use of Pentedrone, which Aycock said is commonly called bath salts.

Both officers were charged April 17.

Aycock said their cases will be reviewed at Article 32 hearings, which are akin to a civilian grand jury proceeding, to determine whether there is enough criminal evidence to warrant a court-martial. The hearings have not been scheduled, Aycock said.

Alonso and Balthazar were among three Minuteman 3 launch officers at Malmstrom who were under investigation for illegal drug use. The other, 2nd Lt. Nicole Dalmazzi, was charged in December and court-martialed in January.

Dalmazzi, a member of the same squadron, pleaded guilty to illegal use of ecstasy and was dismissed from the Air Force and sentenced to a month of confinement in a Montana jail.

All About Playready 3.0, Microsoft’s Secret Plan to Lock Down 4K Movies to Your PC

The name of the movie might as well be Digital Rights Management: The New Nightmare. It stars Microsoft, who is working with chip vendors Intel, AMD, Nvidia, and Qualcomm to protect Hollywood’s movies from piracy as they travel through your PC. The technology it’s promoting is called PlayReady 3.0.

Microsoft is also dangling promises for consumers: Buy a Windows 10 system with PlayReady, Microsoft says, and you’ll be able to view Hollywood’s latest movies in all their 4K glory. Without Microsoft’s hardware DRM technology—pay attention, those of you with older PCs—you may only be able to view a lower-quality version of the film.

Yeah, it’s complicated. Read on to learn more about the DRM technology that could change how you stream movies to your PC.

How Google is Endangering Police Officers

By David A. Clarke Jr. and Jonathan Thompson

Editor’s note: David A. Clarke Jr. is sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Jonathan Thompson is CEO of the National Sheriffs’ Association. The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of the authors.

(CNN) For the fifth year in a row in 2014, ambush attacks on police officers were the No. 1 cause of felonious deaths of law enforcement officers in the line of duty. Nevertheless, Google continues to market a smartphone application that lets lawbreakers pinpoint the location of police officers in the field. Google’s executives won’t even discuss the subject with organizations representing law enforcement.

Google’s popular real-time traffic app, Waze, uses GPS navigation and crowdsourcing to alert users to traffic jams, automobile accidents, stalled cars, and through its “traffic cop” feature, the presence of law enforcement.

Most people undoubtedly use Waze’s police-finding feature to avoid traffic tickets, but the app poses an enormous risk to deputies and police officers.

In the days before he assassinated New York police officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu at point blank range while they sat in their patrol car last December, Ismaaiyl Brinsley is known to have used the Waze application to monitor the movements of police officers. The killer identified the location of police on his own Waze account and even posted screen captures to Instagram.

[…]

Social media has made enormous contributions to law enforcement as a “force multiplier” that lets citizens help police protect our communities. As we have seen with the emergence of crimes like identity theft, however, technology has the potential for evil as well as good.

In the case of Waze, we are confronted with a tool that can be lethal to police officers and deputies, whose roles in society are to protect our citizens and enforce the laws that keep our communities safe.

[While targeting cops is bad juju, the unhappy fact is that many citizens feel targeted as well — by them. And many laws are less about keeping communities safe than compromising liberties. This conundrum can be resolved by repealing out outmoded and unjust laws, so that only sensible ones are enforced. — PW]

How Mainstream Media Lies, Worsens Race Relations, And Protects the Police State

Anyone who spends time observing mainstream media outlets can only come away from the experience with one conclusion: they lie habitually, with what amounts to impunity. Neither the broadcasters on major news networks nor the shills who find their way onto editorial boards of big city newspapers would know the truth if it walked up and hit them. They have little reason to care that they are following scripted narratives. Alternative news sources, not controlled by one of the six leviathan corporations that control over 90% of mainstream media, and not sponsored by billionaires, do not have the resources or the reach to compete effectively with CNN, CBS, or FOX. So for the low-information population who get their “news” from TV, the lies go unchallenged…

On the other hand, every honest person also knows that many cops now operate practically outside the rule of law. They can kill innocent people and receive desk duty. SWAT teams can throw flash grenades into houses where they land in cribs and maim infants for life, again facing neither prosecution nor even a court order to cover the innocent families’ millions in medical expenses.

Huge World War II Bomb Safely Detonated After Being Found on US College Campus

WRIGHTSTOWN, New Jersey — The ground shook near a New Jersey military base as an explosives team detonated a 500-pound (225-kilogram) World War II-era bomb that had been found on the campus of a community college.

The unexploded ordnance was taken to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. It had been discovered Thursday during excavation for a new building at Middlesex County College, which is on the site of the former Raritan Arsenal.

When it was found, college officials evacuated construction workers. But classrooms and other campus facilities were far enough away that they were not affected.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Adam Usher, leader of the 87th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, says his group has up to three emergency calls a week. None had ever involved such a large bomb.

[Military ordnance does not “go bad.” In one recent case, a collector found a Civil War cannonball, took it home, and used a power sander to remove the scale on it. The sparks ignited the black-powder charge inside it, and the resulting blast blew him into gobbets. — PW]

If You Want the NSA Passing Around Your Nude Pics, You’ll Love the Treaties Being Secretly Negotiated Without Your Consent

Thanks to the Australians and Wikileaks, both of whom have leaked details on TPP, we have a pretty good idea of what’s going on in the latest Trans-Pacific Partnership ….

America is, essentially, the world’s data server. Since the dawn of the internet itself, every database of import has been hosted in the grand US of A. But now, foreign governments are starting to see the benefit of patriating their citizens’ private information. [Background here and here.]

Canada was an early adopter of the idea. Federal procurement regulations often require government departments to insert local data requirements, stating that businesses who wish to administer or host Canadians’ information must keep the information within Canadian borders. Most recently, the Canadian Government put out a tender for a company to merge and host the email servers for all their departments. In doing so, they stuck in a national security exemption, forbidding foreign contractors from applying.

Nova Scotia and British Columbia went a step further, flatly requiring any government-hosted personal data to be physically located in Canada.

Australia has taken similar steps, including setting up firm requirements for how companies store offshore data.

But the American government is not having any of it and is using TPP negotiations to strong-arm new provisions that favour American hosted data…

What makes the TPP agreement so extreme is that it could allow those corporations to sue governments that don’t respect the data flow provisions. For example, an American cloud server company could sue Canada for slipping in a “Canadians only” provision on the contract tender to merge its email servers.

Judicial Watch Pinch-Hitting for the FBI

By Janet Levy

Despite the growing menace and media savvy of the terrorist Islamic group ISIS, the FBI appears to be, once again, failing in its investigative and enforcement responsibilities. The agency that let us down with 9/11 and, afterward, reacted mainly in a flurry of political correctness and appeasement toward Muslims is now trying to reassure the American public that we have nothing to fear from ISIS on the North American continent.

This despite warnings from the nonprofit Judicial Watch of ISIS activism in Mexico, and recent ISIS-related arrests in Minnesota. More is needed from the nation’s top domestic intelligence and security agency than this whistling in the dark if we are to be safe in our own country.

Official government estimates of ISIS recruits vary widely from 20,000 to 50,000. Nicholas Rasmussen, director of the federal National Counterterrorism Center, who places the number at more than 20,000, reports that fighters hail from 90 countries, with an estimated 3,400 from Western countries, including over 150 from the United States. Rasmussen admits that there is “likely more information out there that we have not yet been able to collect,” and that there could also be “greater numbers of foreign fighters, and potentially even greater numbers of individuals from western countries and the United States who’ve traveled to the conflict zones.”

Meanwhile, FBI assistant director for counterterrorism Michael Steinbach has reinforced the level of risk by admitting, “Certainly I would not be truthful if I told you we know about all the returnees.”

This equivocation and uncertainty by government sources contrasts dramatically with the recent findings of Judicial Watch, a government watchdog with more than 20 years of investigations and litigation in pursuit of open and honest government. Last week, Judicial Watch revealed in anonymous accounts from a Mexican army officer and police inspector that two ISIS camps exist perilously close to the U.S. border west of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico — one only eight miles from El Paso, Texas, and the other very close to Columbus and Deming, New Mexico.

[…]

Immediately following the recent Judicial Watch disclosure, FBI supervisors called a meeting with the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez. Based on information supplied to Judicial Watch by an anonymous “high level intelligence source,” the goal of the meeting was to “devise a press strategy on the JW report as well as to uncover the identity of the informants.”

According to a Facebook posting, Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) asked the FBI director, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, and the secretary of homeland security if currently any terrorist threat exits on the U.S. southern border. O’Rourke posted that “[t]hey answered that there was not nor has there ever been any terrorist, terrorist plot or terrorist organization that was able to exploit our border with Mexico.”

[Those with long memories will recall that in J. Edgar Hoover’s day, the menace and even the existence of the Mafia were long swept under the FBI’s rug. — PW]

K-12 Education is a Crooked House

Common Core is a repackaging of all the bad ideas from the last 75 years but now locked-in by federal regulation

Here’s the essential detail: every time John Dewey and friends had a conference, exchanged letters, or chatted at lunch, they were typically plotting to take control of the country via the ed schools. That’s been the fundamental reality since about 1910. The conspirators, of course, believed in their own supreme virtue. But so did Lenin and the Bolsheviks. So did Pol Pot. If they had to lie to the public about their real intentions, that was not a problem.

For people not in education, it’s always a shock when they first realize that something very bizarre and counterintuitive is going on. Suppose you’re walking down a street, glance over a fence and see workers building a crooked house. You are sure this house is going to cause a lot of misery. You try to tell the carpenters that their house is crooked. They answer, “We know what we’re doing. Mind your own business.” At this point you become doubly intrigued. You know these people are engaged in some strange crime, or they have escaped from a lunatic asylum.

Almost all the people who write about saving K-12 education come from outside the field. One day, they see that crooked house; their minds are never the same. My favorite example is Albert Lynd, a Harvard-educated businessman with young children in the schools. He ended up joining the school board. Once inside the K-12 beast, he thought: wow, these people are nuts, I have to tell the world. He wrote a wonderful book in 1951 titled “Quackery in the Public Schools.” More than 60 years ago, society was more polite, from what I hear. Imagine the words he was saying in private.

New Allegations About Bill and Hillary’s Greed and Corruption

This week, the New York Times revealed that a new book — “Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich” by Peter Schweizer — will be released on May 5 and should shake up things within the Hillary Clinton for President campaign. The scuttlebutt within political circles is that the book will make expand the narrative about numerous cash donations made by foreign donors to the money-sucking Clinton Foundation.

According to reports already known, foreign individuals and organizations donated millions of dollars to the foundation and gave former President Bill Clinton high-dollar speaking fees while his wife served as President Barack Obama’s Secretary of State. She in turn is accused of granting favors from her State Department, all the while transacting business using a private email account and a Clinton owned and controlled Internet server.

Schweizer’s book is expected to uncover a pattern of financial contributions to the Clintons that ended up giving the contributors access to policy decisions benefiting those donors, while the Clintons built up a personal mega-fortune. Already the Clintons’ trusty team of liars, smear-merchants and goon-squad members are out in full force — with the help of their news media sycophants — attacking the messenger and attacking the motives of anyone who dares to investigate these allegations.

NSA Spied on EU Politicians and Companies With Help From German Intelligence

Germany’s intelligence service, the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), has been helping the NSA spy on European politicians and companies for years, according to the German news magazine Der Spiegel. The NSA has been sending lists of “selectors”—identifying telephone numbers, e-mail and IP addresses—to the BND, which then provides related information that it holds in its surveillance databases. According to the German newspaper Die Zeit, the NSA sent selector lists several times a day, and altogether 800,000 selectors have been requested.

The BND realized as early as 2008 that some of the selectors were not permitted according to its internal rules, or covered by a 2002 US-Germany anti-terrorism “Memorandum of Agreement” on intelligence cooperation. And yet it did nothing to check the NSA’s requests systematically. It was only in the summer of 2013, after Edward Snowden’s revelations of massive NSA and GCHQ surveillance, that the BND finally started an inquiry into all the selectors that had been processed.

According to Der Spiegel, investigators found that the BND had provided information on around 2,000 selectors that were clearly against European and German interests. Not only were European businesses such as the giant aerospace and defense company EADS, best-known as the manufacturer of the Airbus planes, targeted, so were European politicians—including German ones.

The hackers, who also got deeply into the State Department’s unclassified system, do not appear to have penetrated closely guarded servers that control the message traffic from Mr. Obama’s BlackBerry, which he or an aide carries constantly.

The Holder Legacy: Contemptible Corruption, Racial Injustice — or, “Golden Years”?

In a just and genuinely transparent society, Eric Holder would leave Washington, D.C. bound in handcuffs and ankle bracelets, and transported via armored truck, or government drone, to a maximum security federal facility for the criminally insane, where he would spend the rest of his days enduring the bitter fruits of his crimes.

His crimes include participation in, and cover up of, the scandalous “Fast and Furious” gunrunning scheme, a ploy designed to embarrass 2nd Amendment advocates, but which backfired miserably into a major exposé of corruption and crime in the Obama administration.

For his criminal behavior, Holder was issued a “Contempt of Congress” from the US House of Representatives, the first and only such pejorative issued to the head of the Department of Justice.

Using Alinsky Tactics to Destroy Publius Huldah

Socialist and community activist, Saul Alinsky taught organizers to ridicule opponents when the arguments of their opponents could not be refuted by logic, evidence or argument. He advocated denying the truth or just plain lying. In Alinsky’s world, the end always justified the means.

Alinsky’s acolytes on the left have learned the lesson well. Because they dare not address the questions raised, they attack the one asking the questions, they attack the messenger when they don’t have the intellect to counter the message. Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals number 5 states, “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”

This is what is happening today to Publius Huldah, a warrior of great renown who is fighting a raging battle to stop the call for another Article V Convention. Publius Huldah is a retired attorney. Her bio reads, Before getting a law degree, she got a degree in philosophy where she specialized in political philosophy and epistemology (theories of knowledge). She now writes extensively on the U.S. Constitution, using the Federalist Papers to prove its original meaning and intent. She also shows how federal judges and politicians have ignored our Constitution and replaced it with their personal opinions and beliefs. She is a prolific writer and an excellent speaker. Here is an archive of many of her articles, and here is her own website.

The proponents of this new Convention are working together from the left (Soros and his minions), and the neo-con right, to rewrite our Constitution. [Link] Mark Meckler, Nick Dranius, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck, David Barton, Tom Coburn, Michael Farris, and countless others who masquerade as conservatives, but are truly wolves in sheep’s clothing, are calling for a new Convention. Publius Huldah, Michelle Horstman, the John Birch Society, Phyllis Schlafly and countless others, including myself, have written in explicit detail the dangers of opening a new Convention. All of us have been maligned.

Together we’ve had success in educating state legislatures of the dangers of calling for a new Convention, not to mention the fact that it cannot be controlled.

The big money groups, Dranius’s Goldwater Institute, and Mark Meckler’s Citizens for Self Governance are in the forefront of destroying Publius’s reputation. They are absolutely desperate to shut her up. Why? Because she’s telling the American citizens the truth.

Whooping Cough Outbreaks Traced to Change in Vaccine

The recent outbreaks of whooping cough in the United States may be due, in part, to a change made two decades ago to vaccine ingredients, a new study finds. In 2012, the United States had about 48,000 cases of whooping cough (also called pertussis) — the most cases since 1955. Although the numbers dropped in 2013 and 2014 to about 29,000 cases yearly, there are still far more cases now than in decades past. Between 1965 and 2002, there were no more than 10,000 cases yearly.

All-Italian Artificial Hand to Go on Sale in 2017

(AGI) Rome, April 16 — The first all-Italian artificial hand will go on sale in 2017. A prototype of a poly-articulated, polyfunctional and anthropomorphic prosthetic hand using robotic technology has been developed by the national insurance institute against accidents, INAIL, and IIT, the Italian Technology Institute. It was perfected for patients to use by INAIL’s Prosthesis Centre in Budrio, central Italy. The hand was presented on Thursday by Labour Minister Giuliano Poletti and Health Minister, Beatrice Lorenzin. In December 2013 INAIL and IIT agreed to develop advanced prosthetic and rehabilitative devices with a joint investment of 11.5 million euros. Marco Zambelli, the first patient at INAIL’s Prosthesis Centre to experiment with using the hand, gave a demonstration of the functionality he acquired after a training course. The hand allows patients with upper limb amputations to recover functionality, said the developers. The hand was designed with 3D-printing technology and produced in plastic material with few metal components. It is sturdy and light, weighing less than 500 grams, and extremely flexible due to an artificial tendon which can reproduce natural movement. The patient controls the hand through two sensors that pick up the signal emitted by remaining muscles. The device does not require invasive surgery and can be easily worn over a stump. The new hand will be available after the pre-clinical development phase with the patients of the Budrio INAIL Centre, and will be produced and marketed by a new start-up company within the IIT.

Election 2015: UK Good Enough to Go it Alone — Farage

UK businesses should not fear leaving the EU, UKIP leader Nigel Farage has said, as he accused politicians of a “lack of self confidence” in Britain.

In a speech to investors in London, Mr Farage dismissed suggestions his party’s plan to quit the EU could jeopardise “millions of British jobs”.

“The UK has now become the Eurozone’s biggest export market in the world. They need us more than we need them.”

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg says leaving the EU would be economic “self harm”.

Mr Clegg has warned that if the UK were to leave the European Union — following an in/out referendum promised by the Conservatives for 2017, should they win a majority — it could put the economic recovery at risk by cutting Britain off from the “world’s largest marketplace”.

Italian Holocaust Survivors to Skip Liberation Day Parade After Jewish Group Banned

Group of 5,000 Jewish volunteers in British army who served during World War II won’t be allowed to march in annual Italian parade in protest of Israeli occupation.

An Italian organization made up of concentration camp survivors said it will not attend the country’s annual Liberation Day parade because a Jewish group was banned.

ANED, the national association of former Italian political deportees from Nazi concentration camps, said Monday it will not attend the April 25 march because of the ban on the Jewish Brigade, a past parade participant. The Jewish Brigade was a group of 5,000 Jewish volunteers in the British army who served in Europe during World War II.

Italy: Police Arrest Congolese Friar in Missing Woman Case

Guerrina Piscaglia, 50, vanished last year

(ANSA) — Arezzo, April 23 — Police on Thursday arrested Friar Gratien Alabi in connection with the disappearance last year of 50-year-old Guerrina Piscaglia.

The housewife and mother of a 22-year-old son went to the rectory of the local church after a family lunch on the afternoon of May 1, 2014, and was never seen again.

Extensive police searches using dogs conducted in the surrounding countryside failed to turn up any trace of Piscaglia, who lived in the hamlet of Ca’ Raffaello in Arezzo province.

Prosecutors later placed Alabi, a Congolese national, under investigation on suspicion of kidnapping and possible murder after he told a TV show about missing persons that Piscaglia had told him she was pregnant and that he was the father.

Alabi denies having had sex with Piscaglia.

A search of the friar’s home, car, and belongings reportedly turned up a series of pornographic photos of nuns in a state of undress on his computer.

Last month, a Romanian prostitute told police Alabi was one of her habitual clients, paying her 500 euros per session.

Francesca Barracciu charged with aggravated embezzlement

(ANSA) — Cagliari, April 23 — Prosecutors on Thursday requested that culture undersecretary Francesca Barracciu of Premier Matteo Renzi’s Democratic party (PD) be sent to trial on charges of aggravated embezzlement while she was a Sardinia regional councillor, local media reported Thursday. The request will be examined by a preliminary hearings judge on June 24. Barracciu is accused of embezzling 78,000 euros from funds allocated to the institutional activities of political groups in the regional council from 2004 to 2009. She is one of over 70 suspects implicated in a broader probe into misappropriation of public funds within the regional council.

Italy: Teachers Demonstrate Against Renzi’s School Reform

‘Good School’ bill now before parliament

(ANSA) — Rome, April 24 — An estimated 10,000 teachers and administrators rallied against the government’s so-called ‘Good School’ reform bill in Rome on Friday, organizers from USB, UNICOBAS, and ANIEF union federations said.

Participants chanted slogans against Premier Matteo Renzi, Education Minister Stefania Giannini, and the country’s “big three” trade union federations — CGIL, CISL, and UIL — whom they accused of selling out to the government.

“We will continue our struggle until (the government) withdraws its ‘Good School’ bill,” organizers said. Today’s protest in the capital comes after thousands of teachers dressed in mourning and holding a small light took to the streets in a flash mob in cities and towns all over Italy in protest against the bill, which is now before parliament. The flash mob reportedly took place in “over 100 cities” including Cagliari, Palermo, Milan, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Verona, and Turin.

“In Naples 1,500 of us took to the streets to say that the public school system is dying,” said high-school teacher Antonietta Toraldo. “And now we want to be heard”.

Italy: ILVA Steel Plant Seeks Plea in Environmental Disaster Trial

Some 50 defendants on trial for poisoning, corruption, and more

(ANSA) — Taranto, April 22 — Europe’s largest steel plant, ILVA, has sought the industry ministry’s permission to plea-bargain in a trial for environmental disaster in the southern port city of Taranto.

A court in January declared ILVA insolvent, with debt totaling nearly 3 billion euros. This came one week after the industry ministry named former power and environmental executives Piero Gnudi, Enrico Laghi and Corrado Carrubba as extraordinary commissioners.

The Taranto trial sees 52 defendants — three companies and 49 people, including elected officials, former executives, and the ex-secretary to an archbishop — on charges of corruption, making false statements, abuse of office, forgery, malicious disaster, and releasing toxic waste into the water table.

ILVA has employed some 20,000 people and been blamed for decades of environmental degradation and high levels of cancer in the area.

Spanish ‘Halal’ Wine Makes Bid for Algeria Market

To circumvent Quran prohibition

(by Diego Minuti) (ANSAmed) — ROME, APRIL 23 — A good Muslim is required by the Quran to turn down both wine and gambling, as both are considered ‘instruments of Satan’. The Quran also prohibits such things as eating pork, as pigs are considered the most impure animal. While pork is roundly banned from Muslim tables, wine is instead discretely drunk in many homes. Some North African nations, with Tunisia in the lead, produce wine — mostly Italian varieties — in large quantity and of good quality. The ban on its consumption remains and has sparked the imagination of some producers that — in order to try and make inroads into wealthy markets, such as the Algerian one — have combined their experience, imagination and technology to make a ‘halal’ wine in line with Quranic parameters for food.

Those who have made much progress in this segment are Spanish producers, which in the international trade fair Djazagro 2015 (which ends on Thursday) presented their wine.

The Catalan brand Freixenet is already present in the Middle East. However, now, given the potential in Algeria, it has offered an alcohol-less quality product for the local market. Freixenet representatives say that the ‘halal’ wine has been made through an innovative procedure that makes it possible to “extract the alcohol molecule”. Wine, they say, is good for health, and it’s the alcohol which is harmful. The Algerian market is in general targeted by agro-food producers (over 30 countries were represented at Djazagro), especially the French. The Far East and Chinese producers are creating ever stiffer competition, however.

Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi Report, One Year Later

April 22nd marked the one-year anniversary of the Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi’s (CCB) 2014 Interim Report illuminating key details about the ongoing Benghazi scandal.

The CCB’s interim report found last year that:

The war in Libya was not only unnecessary, but the administration quashed possible truce talks between itself and Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi at a crucial juncture. The United States switched sides in the War on Terror, facilitating the provision of weapons to al Qaeda-linked rebels during the Libyan civil war. These two actions fostered the climate for the preventable September 11, 2012 terror attacks. Yet many in the media seem uninterested in exploring the reasons why the United States intervened in Libya in the first place, or the role that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, now running for president, played in pushing the United States to intervene there.

President Obama’s decision to aid al-Qaeda-linked rebels and switch sides in the War on Terror in Libya also reveals his core foreign policy strategy—that America’s enemies should not be considered adversaries, but as allies or strategic partners, regardless of the foreign leaders’ totalitarian ideology, whether or not these countries oppress their citizens, and whether or not future governments will facilitate Islamic terror.

Iraqis to Get American F-16s — But Can They Fly Them?

The Iraqis are getting a batch of American F-16 fighter planes to run combat missions against the Islamic State, but questions remain over whether they can fly them.

According to officials, the first batch of the much-awaited jets is set to arrive in the war-torn country this summer. The Iraqis purchased 18 in 2011 for $3 billion, and another 18 for $830 million two years later, for a total of 36 aircraft.

How prepared they will be remains to be seen, said defense-aviation experts who spoke to FoxNews.com.

“It takes an entire culture to make a fighter pilot,” said Pierre Sprey, a defense analyst who helped to design the concept that led to the original F-16 in the 1970’s. “Here we go starting these guys off on F-16s, and there is not a chance that in the next 20 years they will be able to fly them effectively.”

Leaders and dignitaries from Australia, New Zealand and Turkey led thousands at dawn ceremonies on Turkey’s Gallipoli peninsula on Saturday to mark the 100th anniversary of a World War One battle that helped shape their nations.

Shock Video: Ukrainian Neo-Nazis Nail Rebel Fighter to Cross, Burn Him Alive

WARNING: GRAPHIC FOOTAGE.

Shocking video shows Ukrainian neo-nazi militia fighters carrying out an ISIS-style execution during which they nail a separatist rebel to a cross and then burn him alive.

The authenticity of the footage is yet to be confirmed, although it seems chillingly real on first viewing.

The brutal murder was reportedly carried out by members of the Azov Battalion, which was converted into a regiment last year, making it a de facto part of the Ukrainian Army. The paramilitary group forms “the backbone of the forces fighting against the local self-defense militia advocating independence from Ukraine.”

Ukrainian nationalist volunteers have repeatedly been accused of carrying out “ISIS-style war crimes” during the conflict, including beheadings…

Azov militants identify as neo-nazis and routinely adorn their helmets and uniforms with Nazi SS logos and swastikas, as seen in the image below taken from German television…

Arming and funding bloodthirsty militants who carry out ISIS-style executions would be a repeat of Washington’s disastrous policy of doing the very same thing in Libya and Syria, a strategy that directly led to the growth of ISIS throughout the region. However, a Pew poll conducted in February found that a majority of Americans support doing precisely that.

The one hour video below exhaustively documents how neo-nazi militants were involved in both the overthrow of the elected Ukrainian government as well as fighting on the front lines alongside post-coup Kiev forces.

‘Bravest Woman, ‘ Free Speech Activist Sabeen Mahmud Killed in Pakistan

By Sophia Saifi and Ben Brumfield

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) Her second floor cafe on a dusty industrial road was painted with dashes of psychedelic colors. And Sabeen Mahmud surrounded herself there with books, people, and discussions on technology, human rights and women’s entrepreneurship.

Introducing others to Jimi Hendrix, street art, and talking politics was not supposed to get her killed. But in Pakistan, free speech is dangerous, and Mahmud’s exuberant exercise of it made her stick out nationwide.

Two gunman shot her dead at point-blank range late Friday after she locked up The Second Floor cafe in Karachi for the night, police said. Mahmud died from five bullet wounds.

The gunmen also shot her mother. She is in a hospital but is expected to be released on time for her daughter’s funeral.

Mahmud’s killing broke hearts beating for non-violence and progressive values across the country. She freely said what she thought in a place where many people are too afraid to and by doing so spoke for many more people than just herself.

She had become a Pakistani figurehead for humanism, love and tolerance.

“She took that torch into the dark forest and so many people followed. She really, truly was a success story of the heart,” said close friend and BBC journalist Ziad Zafar.

No one has claimed responsibility for her shooting, and police have not named any motive. But Mahmud had just finished leading a discussion group on a topic that many want silenced, when the shots fell.

In the province of Baluchistan, where separatists have fought a virulent insurgency for years, people have been disappearing regularly. There have been steady allegations of mass abduction. The Lahore University of Management Sciences planned to host the discussion on the topic, with human rights activist Mama Qadeer Baloch, but authorities shut it down.

Mahmud would not hear of it not going on.

“Despite the plurality of opinion, very little space seems to be given to the discussion in Pakistani mainstream media or academia; the debate seems to be shut down before it can even begin,” she posted on Facebook. “What is the reality? Has the media been silenced on Balochistan? What makes it dangerous for us to talk about Pakistan’s largest province at one of our most celebrated universities?”

She invited the discussion to The Second Floor, also known by the shorthand T2F. She said she knew it was a potentially dangerous move, and she had received death threats in the past when she handled the topic before.

“She was the bravest woman in the world, she really was, she was a brave heart; my God, she was a brave, brave girl,” Zafar said.

India: Love Jihad Behind Agra Church Vandalism.

Jilted Muslim lover responsible for Agra church attack, police revealed finally.

HENB | Agra | April 24, 2015: The most inquired Agra church attack and vandalization case has almost been solved and a Muslim rickshaw-puller, who is supposed to be a jilted lover, is alleged to be the main culprit, police said on Friday.

Haider Ali, in his 20s, was picked up from Agra for attacking the St Mary’s Church in Agra Cantonment area in the wee hours on April 16, an official release said here.

The incident was a fallout of Haider’s love for the girl, also in her 20s, who used to light candles in the church.

During interrogation, the accused told police that he wanted to marry the girl and take her to Delhi. Ali said that he used to pick up the girl from outside the church. Ali also said that he used to visit certain places with the girl and drop her at the church later, the police claimed.

Before the incident, the girl had refused to marry the rickshaw puller and did not meet him for 10-15 days, citing the difference in their faiths. To this Ali got agitated and on April 16 vandalised the place of worship after consuming liquor and drugs…

Why Nepal is So Vulnerable to Quakes

The pictures emerging from the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, are shocking.

Durbar square, a Unesco World Heritage Site, has been reduced to rubble. The famous Dharahara Tower has been toppled to leave just a stump.

Nepal is used to quakes — this is one of the most seismically active regions in the world. You only have to look at the Himalayas to understand that.

The mountains are being built as a consequence of the Indian tectonic plate driving under Central Asia (the Eurasian tectonic plate). These two great slabs of the Earth’s crust are converging at a relative rate of about 4-5cm (two inches) a year.

The upward climb of Everest and its sister mountains is accompanied by numerous tremors.

First Mass in Honour of Matteo Ricci

Macau (AsiaNews) — Next Sunday, 26 April, the Missa in honorem Matthaei Ricci will be performed for the first time in Macau’s historic St Joseph Seminary to commemorate the great Jesuit missionary (1552-1610) who was one of the foreign missionaries who lived and died at China’s Imperial Court, in Beijing.

Matteo Ricci is not yet a saint. The gathering of documents for the cause of his beatification ended only a few months ago. However, such a Mass — performed in a concert — is a prayer that illustrates the desire for the canonisation one of the Church’s greatest figures, someone who built “a bridge” between East and West, to quote John Paul II.

The place where the premiere will take part is significant because for at least two centuries, St Joseph’s Seminary (Seminário de São José) in Macau trained the missionaries sent to China, Japan and the Far East.

Far-left extremists attacked an immigration office in Leipzig early on Friday morning. It was the second targeted attack on an official building in the city in recent months.

Investigators believe that the attack was politically motivated based on a claim of responsibility posted to a far-left website.

“Immigration offices manage the racist policies of inclusion and exclusion in Germany,” the authors wrote.

“They implement the divisive policies against people decided on by German governments, which are being worsened at the moment.”

The authors sign off with the English phrase “no border-no nation” after saying that Germany and the EU should rethink migration policy “from the ground up”.

City mayor Burkhard Jung said that the people behind the attack were vandals who wanted to force their opinions on the whole city using violence.

In January a hundreds-strong mob of “anti-fascists” rampaged through the city centre, smashing shops, government buildings and police cars before being stopped by riot police.

Fast Divorce ‘Uncivil Accomplishment’- Italian Bishops Daily

New law ‘devastating slippery slope against the family’

(ANSA) — Rome, April 23 — Italian bishops on Thursday slammed a new law introducing faster divorces, describing it as an “uncivil accomplishment” representing a “devastating slippery slope against the family”. “Laws and provisions are required that support the commitment made by families and contribute to increasing awareness within couples,” read an editorial published in the daily newspaper of the Italian Bishops’ Conference Avvenire.

“Instead we find ourselves with laws that, by facilitating and encouraging the already dramatic sense of precariousness within relationships, end up by sanctioning the malpractice of sentimental instability and family disengagement,” the newspaper added.

The new law approved overwhelmingly by parliament on Wednesday reduces the separation period needed for a divorce from three years to six months, as long as the split is consensual and no children are involved.

In the event that one or both parties go to a judge a separation period of a year is required.

MPs from across the political fence hailed the approval as a “legal landmark” and a “step forward for civil society”.

Gay Marriage: A Trojan Horse Movement Aimed at the Heart of Our Constitution

The Left doesn’t care about gay rights, any more than they care about civil rights, welfare rights, minority rights, animal rights or any other “rights.” According to the Left, “the issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.” The various “rights” the Left has aggressively promoted over the years are merely vehicles to advance the Left’s power.

Consider: the welfare “rights” movement, founded by the notorious socialists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, was not established to guarantee welfare to the poor. As they said, their purpose was to pack the welfare rolls with so many beneficiaries that the government would collapse of its own weight. In the ensuing riots, they hoped policy makers would be driven to accept their socialist solution. In short, they sought anarchy, using a militant poor as their foot soldiers. They could care less what happened to the poor in prosecuting this agenda, and they said so. Doubt me? Just look at the status of the poor today. There are more people on welfare than at any time in history. And the crime and degeneracy that accompany it are epidemic.

Look at our country today. With manufactured crisis Strategist-in-Chief Obama, we are almost there, and Cloward and Piven’s intellectual descendants were out in force in Ferguson. The communist agitators seeking “social justice” for Michael Brown burned down the entire neighborhood. Do black lives matter to them? Apparently not. And they have even said so. The issue is not the issue.

Occupy Wall Street’s black anarchist organizer Nelini Stamp’s new group, Dream Defenders, popularized the slogan “Hands Up Don’t Shoot!” But prior to Ferguson there was Trayvon Martin. Working with Eric Holder’s DOJ, Stamp’s group was responsible for getting Sanford, Florida police chief Bill Lee fired. This despite the fact the FBI agreed with Lee’s assessment that there was no case against Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman. Did Stamp care about “Justice for Trayvon?” Not according to Stamp. “We are actually trying to change the capitalist system we have today, because it’s not working for any of us,” she said.

The Left uses “rights” agendas to wrap itself in the mantle of righteousness and seize the moral high ground, tactically putting us on the defense in the process. But they could care less about the actual issue except in its ability to facilitate their path to power.

The agenda is never the agenda for the Left. And this is especially true for gay marriage. Homosexual marriage is a Trojan horse tactic. The true agenda is to establish the primacy of homosexual rights over the First Amendment’s guarantee of the free exercise of religion. Our nation was founded on this principle, and the gay marriage movement seeks to destroy it…

What is less known is that these gay couples are frequently part of the movement. They deliberately seek out businesses known for their Christian owners. They deliberately demand a service they know in advance will be refused. When the inevitable happens they use it as pretext to destroy the business and savage its owners. Doesn’t it amaze you how quickly legal groups immediately materialize to assist in the attack? The fact that they got unexpected push back through a spontaneous crowd sourcing campaign to support one pizza shop will not dissuade them from future efforts. If gay marriage is adopted, their current Nazi behavior will look like child’s play compared to what’s coming.

This is a highly organized, nationwide campaign of vilification against Christians. But even Christians are not the ultimate target. If the First Amendment can be challenged this way; if a certain group’s “rights” can trump the U.S. Constitution, and if the Supreme Court can actually issue an edict making it so, then the entire Constitution has become meaningless. This is the Left’s true agenda and it always has been. This is the Cultural Marxists’ endgame. The issue is not the issue. The issue for them has always been destroying our country to impose socialism—with them in charge, of course. In order to do that they have to strip America of its culture, its traditions, and most importantly, the most important law of the land, the U.S. Constitution.

The DNA Deniers in the Media

The media have launched a major campaign on behalf of the “transgendered.” The Bruce Jenner ABC News interview is the most visible manifestation of this campaign. However, the NBC Nightly News on Wednesday ran a story by Kate Snow about the “transgender grandchild” of Democratic Rep. Mike Honda of Hawaii. Lacking in the coverage is any concrete definition of the term “transgendered” or any discussion of how children are now being used to promote an increasingly bizarre sexual agenda that requires physically mutilating or chemically treating very confused young people.

The Human Rights Campaign, a group co-founded by accused sex offender Terry Bean, a major Democratic Party fundraiser, quickly highlighted this latest NBC News report in a continuing series on “transgender youth.”

However, just like the terms lesbian, gay, and bisexual, the word “transgendered” applies to certain behaviors or appearances and does not signify anything scientific or biological about a person.

Regardless of what you may see or read in the media, nature has given humanity two sexes, male and female, which are defined by DNA. People can call themselves anything they want, but the biological facts of life cannot be denied.

This is why, when The Washington Post ran a recent story about a “transgendered” soldier who claims to be a man, the paper noted that the military regards “him” as a “her,” because biologically that is what he really is. You cannot change your DNA.

  1. Re: “Huge WW2 bomb…”

They found one near where I work in Bermondsey, SE London, a few weeks ago. and the area was evacuated.

As a WW2 aircraft buff, I knew of Nazi plans to bomb the US from Germany (and vice versa). Hadn’t realised that Hitler’s minions actually managed to drop one on New Jersey!
