Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/11/2015

Last Wednesday eleven kinetic activists were arrested in Catalonia for plotting jihad attacks. According to the Spanish authorities, the members of a group that calls itself “Islamic Brotherhood for the Preaching of Jihad” were planning to capture a non-Muslim and slit his throat on video. The citizens of Catalonia were relieved to learn that the incident had nothing to do with Islam.

In other news, President Obama made history yesterday by shaking hands with Cuban President Raul Castro at the Summit of the Americas in Panama.

China-Led Asian Bank Challenges US Dominance of Global Economy

America’s 70-year dominance of the global economy faces challenge from Chinese-led Asian bank

China’s grand arrival on the world scene is playing out in many acts. The latest to fixate players and watchers is the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

It is the new boy on the global banking block. For seven decades, American-dominated institutions have been the cornerstone of the global economic order. Rising from the rubble of the second world war, the Bretton Woods pact to establish a global monetary order paved the way for institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and later, regional institutions such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB). These were created to establish economic cooperation and development for global stability and prosperity.

At the time, the US economy accounted for half the world’s gross output while its Federal Reserve held two-thirds of the world’s gold reserves. Under the system, each country had to adopt a monetary policy that maintained the exchange rate by tying its currency to gold or the gold-pegged US dollar. The arrangement in effect gave the dollar an unrivalled position as the world’s de facto reserve currency — a mantle it may soon relinquish.

Citi Economist Says it Might be Time to Abolish Cash

Would this save the world economy?

The world’s central banks have a problem.

When economic conditions worsen, they react by reducing interest rates in order to stimulate the economy. But, as has happened across the world in recent years, there comes a point where those central banks run out of room to cut — they can bring interest rates to zero, but reducing them further below that is fraught with problems, the biggest of which is cash in the economy.

In a new piece, Citi’s Willem Buiter looks at this problem, which is known as the effective lower bound (ELB) on nominal interest rates.

Fundamentally, the ELB problem comes down to cash. According to Buiter, the ELB only exists at all due to the existence of cash, which is a bearer instrument that pays zero nominal rates. Why have your money on deposit at a negative rate that reduces your wealth when you can have it in cash and suffer no reduction?

JPMorgan Chase CEO: Economic Crisis Inevitable

Another economic crisis like the Great Recession is inevitable, according to JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, who heads the bank that recently imposed capital controls and limits on cash withdrawals.

“Some things never change — there will be another crisis, and its impact will be felt by the financial markets,” he wrote in his annual letter to shareholders. “The trigger to the next crisis will not be the same as the trigger to the last one, but there will be another crisis.”

Dimon’s admission is particularly concerning considering that JPMorgan Chase, the largest bank in the U.S., has already enacted a $50,000 monthly limit on cash withdrawals and has also banned American customers from sending money outside the U.S.

As Encryption Spreads, U.S. Grapples With Clash Between Privacy, Security

For months, federal law enforcement agencies and industry have been deadlocked on a highly contentious issue: Should tech companies be obliged to guarantee government access to encrypted data on smartphones and other digital devices, and is that even possible without compromising the security of law-abiding customers?

Recently, the head of the National Security Agency provided a rare hint of what some U.S. officials think might be a technical solution. Why not, suggested Adm. Michael S. Rogers, require technology companies to create a digital key that could open any smartphone or other locked device to obtain text messages or photos, but divide the key into pieces so that no one person or agency alone could decide to use it?

“I don’t want a back door,” Rogers, the director of the nation’s top electronic spy agency, said during a speech at Princeton University, using a tech industry term for covert measures to bypass device security. “I want a front door. And I want the front door to have multiple locks. Big locks.”

Christians Tolerate Injustice, Muslims Don’t

While Christians are beheaded by muslims and babies are murdered in masse by misguided individuals, the progressives are more concerned about cakes. Recently, Pope Francis solemnly stated that “martyrs are more numerous today than they were in the first centuries of the church.” It is difficult to dispute the Pontiffs claims, considering the ongoing day in and day out murdering, raping, burning, crucifying, enslaving, and torturing of Christians by muslims. They often claim they have a right to do so because their quran’ instructs them to wipe out non-muslims, enslave Blacks, abuse women, and torture animals.

Such actions continue non-stop around the world and have been perpetrated here in America as well. However in the United States, the progressives look the other way when it comes to muslim atrocities. Of course they have been overwhelmingly concerned and working to wipe out the right of Christian bakers, who simply choose not to bake cakes in celebration of unnatural marital couplings that go against their religious beliefs. The hypocritical leftists didn’t even complain when a muslim baker in Dearbornistan, MI refused to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding. Of course that confirms what I have known about the progressive left for years.

Those on the left, do not give a rat’s behind about the numerous atrocities being inflicted upon numerous individuals around the world. Unless it fits their agenda to feign concern. Their so-called concern is part of an overall mission to undermine the ongoing operation of Christianity and perhaps even the United States as well. A clarifying example, the left’s homosexuals are victims campaign is not at all about freedom or especially not liberty. In fact it is all about trying to delegitimize and annihilate Christianity.

Guess What Houston’s ‘Cop of the Year’ Was Caught Doing

The charges were outlined in court documents, which state that Juarez conspired with Sergio Grimaldo, the brother of convicted cartel boss Efrain Grimaldo, to distribute cocaine in southeastern Louisiana from 2012 onwards.

The officer, once formally recognized by the city for outstanding community work, was also indicted on a charge of conspiracy to possess firearms connected with a drug trafficking offense. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Louisiana confirmed the details in an email response to The NY Daily News.

If found guilty, Juarez could serve a life sentence and receive a $10 million fine. He is scheduled for a bail hearing on Monday.

Details are scant at the moment, but police sources have told local reporters that Juarez was escorting large shipments of drugs across state borders at the behest of the Grimaldos.

How Corrupt Can Corruption be?

George Washington warned us in his Farewell Address that political parties would cause ongoing divide within the country — pitting one American against another. In addition, it is a means of distraction as to what they are doing behind the halls of Congress.

John Adams said: “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”

The very sad thing about Washington’s Farewell Address is every warning he put within that document is here in America today. We have watched Boehner who is to be the leader of conservative Americans embrace the wants and desires of the liberals to what end — in some way to elevate himself and be dammed the people who elected him.

Washington continued: “The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty.

“It serves always to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration. It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.”

How Do You Stop a Google Goliath From Plagiarizing the Truth?

Google, to which a majority of the Internet surfing world is already addicted—-40,000 search queries every second on average, 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide—has come out of the woodwork claiming the world’s only monopoly on the Truth.

All news of whomever Republicans choose to oppose Clinton will be most effectively suppressed. Traffic to all websites is virtually controlled by Google and there seems to be no way around it. Traffic to conservative websites and blogs is already being suppressed by Google—which now lays claims to be the Grand Central of Truth.

Is There One Country Left Free of Communism Where One Can Retire?

Many Americans have asked me where they could retire away from this country’s advancement towards Marxism. I was wracking my brain trying to find a place that would be suitable for my retirement years where I could continue to live in the relative freedom I found in the 1970s America. As long as we follow the law, we have nothing to hide and nothing to fear except the arm of “environmental justice” and “social justice.”

After all, who wants to live their formative youth years under the Iron Curtain of communism and then their retirement years under the boot of communism on steroids in America? The Eastern Europeans’ Security Police were novices when compared to all sorts of 24/7 electronic surveillance in the U.S. , more sophisticated than the Soviets could have ever devised.

We have smart meters, water meters, gas meters, A/C meters, smart appliance meters, drones attached to our homes, flying drones, NSA spying, laptops, smart gadgets, smart TVs, smart phones, social networks like Facebook, and many other devices I don’t even know exist, aimed at controlling everything that we do, speak, create, think, and write.

In a sense, we are surrounded by regular police in the streets, cameras on every street corner, building, or intersection, and security police on a mountain top, usually college graduates in their best pajamas or fatigues, watching a bank of monitors, not just the lowly street-snitches variety, who recorded long time ago our comings and goings, or the poor shmucks who recorded, listened to our conversations, and wrote a report at the end of the day.

Is there such a place on the planet where communism/totalitarianism no longer exists? Not really, since global communism is not just on a relentless march, it is on a trot, thanks to government elites around the world and the United Nations.

Michael Bloomberg Donates Another $30 Million to Sierra Club Campaign to Kill Coal Plants

The only good news here is that Michael Bloomberg is out $30 million. I guess that’s money he can’t give to gun control groups. But the rest of the news is all bad. By giving another $30 million to a Sierra Club effort to kill coal plants (he gave $20 million previously), Bloomberg is continuing to support a destructive effort that’s getting results.

Their goal is utterly insane. They want to eliminate coal plants from the American energy landscape. Coal now accounts for 40 percent of all the electrical power Americans use. Bloomberg and friends think renewable energy sources like wind and solar can make up the difference, which would be quite a trick considering that all these sources combined only account for 5 percent of our energy use today, and because they are still immature technologies, they are nowhere near the capacity that would allow them to provide 40 percent of the nation’s energy needs.

You’d think a campaign like this would be dead in the water given these realities, but you’d be wrong. Over the past decade, more than 100 U.S. coal plants have shut down — and every time that has happened, jobs have been eliminated and the cost of electricity has risen. There’s this thing called supply and demand that you’d think a billionaire like Bloomberg would understand. When you make something harder to get, the price goes up. And when you kill a coal plant, you reduce the supply of electricity.

National Defense or Social Experimentation?

For the first time in the history of the legendary U.S. Army Ranger School, the course will be open for women to attend as Ranger Students beginning in mid-April.

This comes as a direct result of the demands on the armed services by the Obama Department of Defense to gender integrate all specialties, including Army Infantry, Armor, Artillery, Special Forces, Rangers, and Navy SEALS. The services have been ordered to meet full gender integration by 2016, and therefore even the Navy SEALS will be required to integrate Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) next year…

Ranger School is arguably one of the physically toughest schools in the military and comparable to the Navy SEALs’ rigorous BUD/S training. In just over two months, surviving off only one meal per day and very little sleep (average of one to two hours per night), I personally lost over 50 pounds. Roughly 10 to 15 percent of those who started with me graduated on time without recycle (at that time, around 35 to 40 percent would graduate with or without recycle).

Important to the issue of gender integration, the course demanded more than just extreme endurance, like carrying an 80 to 100-pound rucksack (and sometimes a machinegun) for hours on end up-and-down rugged mountains and through deep swamps. The course required the physical stature to fight hand-to-hand (literally being able to prevail over another very fit man in single combat) as well as carrying another man as a simulated “casualty.” This course required not only steep mountain climbing, but climbing down mountains with a 180 to 200-pound Ranger student strapped on one’s back. It required, at a minimum, that all Ranger students execute six pull-ups, each one performed from a dead hang (keep in mind this was the absolute minimum. Most Ranger students were able to perform—and frankly expected to perform—many more puul-ups.), along with the Fitness Test at the 18 to 21-year-old male standards and quick five-mile run in formation. It pushed all students to the absolute edge of mental and physical endurance, and it taught us how far fit-men could be pushed physically in combat conditions.

New Bill Would Have Teachers Diagnose Psychological Issues in Children and Report Them to Police

Texas State Representative Jason Villalba (R-Dallas) is once again in the spotlight after submitting yet another Orwellian proposal, H.B. 985.

Villalba first raised the ire of civil libertarians by proposing a bill, H.B. 2006, which would have eliminated the religious exemption for vaccination, essentially creating a forced government vaccination program without exception.

More recently, Villalba was thrust into the national spotlight when he proposed H.B. 2918, which would usurp citizens of the ability to hold law enforcement accountable for their actions. The bill would negate the people’s ability to create an accurate and impartial record of police interactions by restricting citizens from filming within 25 feet of an officer.

Now with H.B. 985, Villalba intends to give school officials the authority to force psychological screenings of students that teachers and staff diagnose as having mental health issues.

Once the process is set in motion by school officials, parents would be forced to take their child to a mental health professional within 30 days, under threat of suspension of the child from school.

New Mexico Gov. Signs Anti-Forfeiture Bill at Last Minute

New Mexico’s Gov. Susana Martinez (R) has signed HB 560, a bill that would stop civil asset forfeiture in the state.

The bill had passed unanimously in both houses of the state legislature, each controlled by the opposite party, but the governor was strangely silent about her intentions until signing it at the last minute.

FreedomWorks, who were rallying grassroots support, reported two days ago that over 4,000 calls had been made to the governor’s office.

Police Make Heartbreaking Discovery Next to White Man Gunned Down by Black Teens

A Philadelphia man out for a walk last week was gunned down by three Black teens in cold blood. And when police found the man’s body, they made a heartbreaking find right next to it.

According to NBC Philadelphia, the three black teens got “bored” playing basketball and decided to go rob someone. After seeing one man with a large dog, and deciding not to rob him, they then saw 51-year-old James Patrick Stuhlman walking his terrier.

Stuhlman typically walked his dog with his 13-year-old daughter. But on the night of his murder, March 12, he had told her to stay home because it was getting dark out, which very likely saved her life.

As he walked down the street, Stuhlman, who owned a local landscaping company, saw three teens approach him. Then they grabbed and robbed him, and shot him once in the leg. They could have just taken his money and ran at that point. But they did not.

Right to Bear Arms? Gun Grabbing Sweeping the Nation

Cherished family heirlooms were among the 21 firearms Michael Roberts surrendered to the Torrance Police Department in 2010, after his doctor filed a restraining order against him.

The court order was the result of a dispute Roberts had with a member of the doctor’s staff and, after Roberts pleaded no contest, the matter was resolved. Yet, even though he filed the proper Law Enforcement Gun Release paperwork on four separate occasions, obtained clearance from the California Department of Justice and had two court orders commanding the return of his guns, police refused to hand them over.

With the backing of the National Rifle Association and California Rifle and Pistol Association, Roberts filed a federal lawsuit in May 2014, over the $15,500 worth of firearms. In the end he got the money, but not the guns. The police had had them destroyed.

Second Amendment lawyers say his case is not rare.

Sheriff Orders Probe of Brutal Beating by Deputies After 3hr Horse Pursuit in Desert

The last few minutes of the desert chase were caught on video by an NBC Los Angeles news helicopter. The aerial footage appears to show the deputies shooting a suspect, identified as 30-year-old Francis Jared Pusok, with a stun gun, before repeatedly punching and kicking him as he lies on the ground with his hands behind his back.

“It is disturbing and it appears on its face that there are violations of policy, but that will ultimately be determined in the investigation and to what degree,” Sheriff John McMahon said Thursday.

He added that he has ordered an internal investigation into the pursuit and apparent beating, as well as a separate criminal investigation into Pusok’s actions and those of the deputies involved in the arrest.

Special Op Veterans Groups Have Launched ‘Counter Jade Helm’ Operation

A Facebook page for the initiative promises to, “observe the attempted infiltration of our towns during Operation Jade Helm with self sufficient teams in the field conducting counter surveillance.”

“Our main focus right now is on gathering intel on when and where the military will be infiltrating SOF teams for Operation Jade Helm,” writes Lanteri. “We have the Texas locations. We need verified info on South Cali and Utah locations. Arizona looks like it will only be on 1 military installation. Once we gather that intel and the field teams are informed then we will start posting information on how to go about locating SOF teams in public. Looking for certain mannerisms, etc. But right now we are focused on locations and dates!!”

Over 2,000 people have followed the page so far, with many posting updates about Jade Helm, including speculation that Colorado has told the Army it will refuse to allow state or city property to be used for the drill.

Other similar initiatives, named ‘Operation Tyranny Response’ And ‘Operation Homeland Hawkeye’, have also been launched in response to Jade Helm.

A post attributed to Navy veteran Geoff Ross asserts that he has arranged for 25 retired Navy SEAL, DELTA and Rangers to travel to Washington DC to conduct exercises similar to those described in the Jade Helm documents.

“They will wander around and be tourists. They may pop in and visit a few Congressman or maybe they won’t. Or, maybe they will. The 1st Amendment is about to be exercised. Body cams in place. They practice we practice. We all practice. They visit us. We visit them,” writes Ross.

The Path to Understanding

The issue at hand is the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), i.e., fast track authority, which would give authority for the President to pass the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with only an up or down, i.e., yes or no vote. This in itself gives him a tremendous advantage in getting the proposed legislation passed. In addition, due to the restrictions on debate, it prevents exposure of most of the contents contained in those 2000 pages which Congressmen and Senators have neither had time to examine, nor the inclination to do so. This, of course, means we would not have any idea what those unread pages contained until Mr. Obama, or someone other decided to spring the entire trap.

There are several red flags about this so-called “free trade” agreement which should alert anyone who is concerned about the best interests of the country. It is a trap to be avoided, for it stands to reason it is in line with all the provisions to implement the Agenda for World Government which is being pushed by Obama. All this plays into the strategy to “Fundamentally Transform America.” Add to that the fact that it has been secretly negotiated, i.e., kept hidden from Congress, and the American people.

All this, only in itself, is very sinister, but what is even more sinister is the fact that we have a head of state that has demonstrated over and over that he despises America and what it represents. He has stated from the very outset, that he purposed to “Fundamentally Transform America.” And he’s well succeeding in doing just that. We will end up with an America that is unrecognizable to the America our founders gave us.

US Capitol Lockdown Lifted After Man Fatally Shoots Himself

WASHINGTON (AP) — A precautionary lockdown of the U.S. Capitol was lifted after about two hours Saturday following a suicide by a man carrying a protest sign.

The man died after shooting himself on the west front of the Capitol building just after 1 p.m., Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider said. No one else was hurt.

Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine said the man had a backpack and a rolling suitcase, triggering an hours-long lockdown, and a sign that said something about “social justice.”

Robert Bishop of Annapolis, Maryland said he was biking near the steps of the Capitol when the suicide happened.

Bishop didn’t witness the suicide but said there were about 60 people in the area, and that some of them did, including a girl and her mother who immediately began crying afterward.

Bishop said another witness told him and a police officer that the man who killed himself held up a protest sign about taxation just before pulling the trigger…

Why Natural Born Citizen is Non-Negotiable

Ever since Barack Obama stole the show at the Kerry Convention in 2004 and rocketed from total obscurity to the most powerful political office in our land four years later, the subject of Article II requirements for the Oval Office has been a subject of great debate, all over three simple words, natural born Citizen (NBC), aka “True Citizen.”

Where did it come from, what does it mean, why did our Founders limit access to only two political offices in our nation to no one other than a natural born Citizen, and what do we do now that we know Barack Obama is not a natural born Citizen of the United States? These questions have been the source of much political debate, confusion and anxiety, now threatening the GOP as a result of numerous potential 2016 GOP candidates also failing to meet the requirement.

Some of the most blatantly insane arguments have been floated…

At this moment, a collective effort is underway to claim that the following three words are synonymous… natural — native — naturalized…. Which would make anyone eligible for the Oval Office, including the courts new citizen class the “undocumented citizen.”

Fiery Explosions on Busy Ottawa Street Send Glass Shards Flying, Causing Millions of Dollars in Damages

The Office of the Fire Marshal is at the scene after a major fire and multiple explosions destroyed a building at the corner of Bank Street and Fifth Avenue in the Glebe, sending a passerby to hospital with cuts from from flying glass, “incinerated” a popular hair salon and coffee shop, and caused “several million dollars” in damages.

Ottawa police arson squad investigators also arrived at mid-morning, although fire officials had given no indications of a suspicious cause for the fire according to early examination.

Thick black smoke billowed through the rain-soaked street as fire crews on ladders battled the flames into the early morning. At just after 4:30 a.m. on Friday, more than five hours after the start of the fire, crews got the blaze under control.

Ford Nation: Why Hundreds of Thousands Torontonians Supported Their Conservative Crack-Smoking Mayor

Though not written as a how-to book, Weinreb’s Ford Nation: Why hundreds of thousands of Torontonians supported their conservative crack-smoking mayor is a blueprint for how taxpayers hell-bent to keep city hall out of their back pockets during a mayoral race with the media stacked up against them, against all odds, scored incredibly huge Election Day returns.

That the media failed to rid Toronto of Ford is an admission that will never be contained within media headlines.

Weinreb’s book is a modern-day story of folk hero Casey Jones; a story that proves “You can’t fight City Hall and win” is so much bunk and that the media cannot force its will on citizen groups like Ford Nation when average Joes and Josephines take to heart beleaguered mayors who live up to the promise of bringing the local “gravy train” to a halt.

Eating Cheese May Help You Lose Weight, New Study Finds

A new scientific study has suggested that eating cheese may help individuals struggling to lose weight — and contribute to keeping the pounds off.

The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry published a study this month that discussed the importance of something researchers labelled “cheese metabolism”.

Scientists from the University of Copenhagen and Aarhus University compared urine and faecal samples from 15 men, who consumed a diet featuring milk and cheese or butter but no other dairy products for two weeks.

The small test, which was partially funded by the Danish Dairy Research Foundation, found that those who ate cheese (or milk) during the trial had a noticeable different composition of bacteria in their gut.

Italy: Diplomacy Needs to Isolate ISIS Says Bishops’ Leader

Cut relations with backers, Cardinal Bagnasco says

(ANSA) Genoa, April 10 — Diplomacy needs to be used much more than before to isolate ISIS militants and the countries that support them, Italian bishops’ conference leader Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco said Friday.

To defeat ISIS, “the path of diplomacy must be pursued much more” so as to reach “complete isolation,” the prelate said.

Fanatics “must feel isolated from the whole world, and this has not yet happened,” said Bagnasco.

“If the chancelleries of all the world interrupted relations of interest and business with certain parts of the world the isolation would be truly complete,” he said.

Bagnasco did not mention by name any countries supporting ISIS.

Large Scale Study Verifies That Low Vitamin D Levels Are Linked to Depression

In the absence of vitamin D, many diseases increase by 1000 percent, especially in the winter months. Low levels of the sunshine vitamin is liked with significant cognitive impairment and widespread chronic pain. According to a recent Finnish population study, higher vitamin D levels have a lower risk of depression according to results from over 5000 people.

People with higher blood levels of vitamin D live significantly longer than people who have low blood levels of the vitamin.

Previous data has shown in the International Archives of Medicine that people with vitamin D deficiency are at an 85 percent increased risk of having current depressive episodes, compared with people with sufficient levels.

Prostate Cancer Detected by Dogs With More Than 90% Accuracy

New research has supported the idea that dogs could one day be used to sniff out cancer, after a study found that trained German Shepherds were able to detect chemicals linked to prostate cancer from urine samples with incredibly high accuracy.

A study carried out by the Department of Urology at the Humanitas Clinical and Research Centre in Milan had two German Shepherds sniff the urine of 900 men, 360 of whom had prostate cancer and 540 who didn’t.

One dog was successful at identifying prostate cancer in 98.7 per cent of cases, while the other dog achieved 97.6 per cent accuracy.

Spain: Arrested Catalonia Jihadists Planned to Kidnap Victim and Slit Their Throat

The jihadist cell broken up by police in Catalonia on Wednesday was planning to kidnap someone in Spain, dress them in an orange suit of the type used by Islamic State for its executions, and make a video recording of their “interrogation” before slitting their throat.

Sources at the prosecutor’s office at the National High Court in Madrid, Spain’s central criminal tribunal, have revealed that the 11 individuals arrested across Catalonia were part of the so-called “Islamic Brotherhood for the Preaching of Jihad,” and that their chief goal was to carry out attacks in Spain.

The group had been closely watching public and private locations in Catalonia, including the regional parliament, the police precincts in Sabadell, Barcelona’s busy Plaza de España square and the city’s Hotel Catalonia. All of these places had been photographed from various angles in order to study their entry points and best escape routes.

Wiretaps conducted by the Mossos d’Esquadra Catalan regional police revealed that the cell was in the early stages of a plan to kidnap the head of Banco Sabadell and hold her for ransom to fund its activities, the same sources said.

The group had decided to take its jihad on to Spanish soil after failing in its attempt to send new combatants to Syria and Iraq. Three of the people they had recruited were arrested before reaching the combat zone…

The Joy of Being Ginger

Ironically, red hair is probably an evolutionary response to chilly weather. We’re genetic mutants really. Scientists think that red hair evolved to deal with a lack of sun — having pale skin and red hair allows you to absorb the maximum Vitamin D (although it also means you’re 2.5 times more likely to get skin cancer).

That’s why only about two per cent of the world population have red hair and lots of them are from chilly northern countries such as Scotland and Ireland. Now, that the planet is warmer, researchers are looking into whether we’ll eventually become extinct.

All the more reason for us to enjoy our moment in the metaphorical sun. We should celebrate the joy of ginger, while we still can.

UK Mass Surveillance is Facing a Ruling From Europe’s Human Rights Court

The European Court of Human Rights will soon decide whether British mass surveillance is lawful, as an alliance of human rights organizations seeks to overrule a judgement by the UK surveillance court.

A joint appeal was filed by groups including Privacy International, Amnesty, and Liberty in response to a ruling in December by the UK Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT), which found that mass surveillance of internet traffic going in and out of the country, and an intelligence sharing regime between the US and UK, was lawful.

Although the UK has ruled that such mass surveillance is lawful, campaigners believe it may breach Articles 8 and 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which enshrine the rights to privacy and freedom of expression respectively. Privacy International and the other groups are seeking a ruling from ECHR that industrial scale mass surveillance violates human rights law.

China ‘Attacking Websites Across the Globe in New Censorship Offensive’

New strategy seeks to shut down websites which help the Chinese get around the ‘Great Firewall’

China has expanded its internet censorship efforts beyond its borders with a new strategy that attacks websites across the globe, researchers said.

The new strategy, dubbed “Great Cannon,” seeked to shut down websites and services aimed at helping the Chinese circumvent the “Great Firewall,” according to a report by the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto.

“While the attack infrastructure is co-located with the Great Firewall, the attack was carried out by a separate offensive system, with different capabilities and design, that we term the ‘Great Cannon’,” it said. “The Great Cannon is not simply an extension of the Great Firewall, but a distinct attack tool that hijacks traffic to (or presumably from) individual IP addresses.”

The report supports claims by the activist organisation GreatFire, which last month claimed China was seeking to shut down its websites that offer “mirrored” content from blocked websites like those of the New York Times and others.

Genocide Against Christians

It is in your face if you actually dig and find the real news profiling the mass murders of Christians around the world. I just read again of the horror a few days ago of al-Shabab’s mass murder of 148 Christian students at Garissa University College in Kenya. These Islamic murderers marched around the school demanding to know who was Muslim and who was Christian. If students couldn’t recite Islamic scriptures and beliefs they were immediately murdered.

Most of the headlines I found on this horrific event did not happen to mention that all the murdered students were Christians. I guess that isn’t a big part of the news these days — just get rid of those pesky Christians. Obama sure has nothing to say about the multi thousands of Christian murders throughout the world at the hands of Islam.

Just recently a Christian man was grabbed by Muslims in Pakistan according to Ted and Whalid Shoebat www.shoebat.com and thrown into an oven where he was roasted. Shockingly he survived but has severe burns all over his body. It is a miracle he lived.

Obama Meets With Castro, Says it’s Time for U.S. To ‘Try Something New’

One of the last remaining divides between the U.S. and Cuba was bridged Saturday, as leaders of the two countries met for the first time in a half a century.

President Obama met with Cuban President Raul Castro at an international summit in Panama on Saturday and emerged from the meeting saying it’s time for the two countries, long at odds, to “try something new.”

“We are now in a position to move on a path toward the future,” Obama said. He also said, “Over time, it is possible for us to turn the page and develop a new relationship between our two countries.”

The meeting, which Obama called “historic,” caps enmity between the two nations that predates the Internet, man walking on the moon and the Beatles hitting America.

The island country was taken over in a 1959 socialist revolution led by Raul Castro’s combat fatigue-wearing brother Fidel. Two years later, the U.S. backed an ill-fated invasion of the country, and later, the CIA tried to assassinate Fidel Castro, a fact that would not be revealed for years to come.

A Lesson in “Marriage Equality”

Christians: Unite Behind Your Economic Clout

83 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians

And make no mistake: The math is on your side. First, approximately 83 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians. Second, a 2013 Rasmussen survey reveals that 85 percent of Americans believe a Christian wedding photographer who has deeply held religious beliefs opposing same-sex marriage has a right to turn down work at that wedding. And I’d bet heavily on the idea just as many Americans would feel the same way if a gay baker were asked to provide a cake with the inscription “God Hates Gays” for the Westboro Baptist Church, a Jewish baker was asked to put a swastika on a cake for a Nazi group, or a black baker asked to provide a cake with a noose for the KKK. Regardless, those stats in and of themselves should give one a great idea how utterly misrepresentative of reality the current media/leftist campaign against people of faith truly is. Moreover, it suggests a level of economic clout that dwarfs those who seek out businesses they can shut down to “teach them a lesson about tolerance.” And it is an economic clout that has already been demonstrated: An online fundraising effort has raised a whopping $840,000 for Memories Pizza.

That’s impressive, but it’s not nearly enough. It’s time to send a message to the likes of Apple, Angie’s List, AFSCME, San Francisco, Connecticut, New York, Salesforce, Yelp and a host of other oh-so self-righteous entities that have your worst interests at heart. Make it part of your Christian life to determine who would undermine it, and then take your business to those who understand the real bigots in this nation are those who would stomp the concept of live and let live out of existence—under the banner of enlightened thinking, no less. Moreover, if far too many of your milquetoast leaders refuse to join you, move on without them.

Feminists Don’t Care About Equality

In a new video by Rebel Media, contributor Lauren Southern explains why she is not a feminist. Her reason: the feminist movement is no longer about equality, as evidenced by feminists’ dishonest handling of issues impacting men as much or more than women, including rape and domestic abuse.

Citing several statistics—including that up between 100,000-140,000 men are raped every year (more than the number of women), that in roughly half of all domestic abuse cases in America and Canada males were the victims, and that 80% of suicides are males—Southern argues that feminists consistently fail to address the inequality of the treatment of men and women in such cases. Men are not offered the safe houses, court advocacies programs, subsidized counseling and legal care, and the same support that women are offered, yet feminists seem to never address such inequalities.

First Amendment Rights at Stake in Gay Marriage Case

With media coverage slanted in favor of gay marriage by a five-to-one ratio, it’s unlikely that the legal documents being filed before the Supreme Court in favor of a traditional one man and one woman marriage will ever be covered in an objective fashion.

Yet, some of the legal briefs carry ominous warnings about what could happen to the American system of democratic self-government and its Christian heritage if the Supreme Court unilaterally decides to impose same-sex marriage on the states. They also warn about freedom of the press and religion being threatened by a powerful pro-homosexual movement that requires obedience to its desires and demands.

A powerful brief filed by the firm of William J. Olson, P.C., Attorneys at Law, and the U.S. Justice Foundation cites the late conservative journalist M. Stanton Evans in his book The Theme of Freedom as saying that homosexuality constitutes “a reversion to pagan ways of thinking,” and that putting the United States on the road to paganism could lead to a government “with totalitarian powers.”

Examining the nature of the homosexual movement and where it is driving the nation, the legal brief notes that sexual categories once limited to heterosexual and homosexual have now been expanded to include more than 50 gender options, as defined by Facebook, and that “some consider pedophilia to be a legitimate sexual orientation, returning us to the pagan pederasty of ancient Greece.”

Obama Warns Parents: Your Kids Are Mine

President Barack Obama has issued a declaration on human sexuality and what constitutes moral and mental health for the nation. He is warning Christian parents that the federal government wants their kids.

This is not how the story is being reported, however. For example, a story in Politico carries the headline, “Barack Obama denounces ‘conversion therapies’ for gays,” with the words “conversion therapies” in quotes, as if to suggest there’s some doubt that homosexuals can return to being straight. This is all too typical of the mentality that grips the major media and is designed to suggest that homosexuality is somehow natural and cannot be changed. But honest journalism, which is virtually non-existent when covering homosexuality, would take a different approach to the topic.

As Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth notes, there are plenty of former homosexuals. Has the Politico reporter Louis Nelson ever met or reported on them? We can’t find any record of that. So if the magazine doesn’t report on them, they must not exist. This is not journalism but cheerleading for Obama and the gay rights cause. It’s also a disservice to the parents of young people who need help and have a right to information about both sides of the story.

Rich Wyler, founder and director of the group, People Can Change, does not exist in a world where the liberal media and the gay rights movement become one and the same. He says that before he found sexual-orientation change therapy in the 1990s, “I was so conflicted over unwanted same-sex attractions that I was suicidal and self-destructive.” He goes on, “Sexual-reorientation therapy saved my life. I was in my 30s; I only wish I’d found this kind of help as a teenager or young adult. It could have saved me years of heartbreak and confusion.”

The other side of the story would include reporting that Obama’s political proclamation in favor of outlawing sexual-orientation change therapy not only constitutes crass exploitation of the terrible suicide of a mixed-up young person named Joshua Alcorn but serves as an indictment of his Christian parents. Joshua was confused about his sexuality and had begun referring to himself as a girl, Leelah. The parents had tried to get help for the troubled 17-year-old before he committed suicide.

The implication of the Politico-style reporting on this topic is that being “homosexual and transgender” is a fact of life that cannot be changed. That’s false. But the media just can’t bring themselves to report the facts.

Politico says the parents in this case found religious therapists who “attempted to convert her [Leelah] back into a boy.” This, too, is false. The child was a boy. Politico calls him “a transgender girl,” another falsehood.

Pressure Builds Over Ontario Pedophile Procurement Program

Canvassers have found that roughly 80 per cent of Ontario residents are against Katherine Wynne’s “Sex Education Curriculum”

Don’t forget this is the same curriculum that [ex-Premier] Dalton MiGuinty shelved in 2010 because he thought the parental resistance was too much of a political liability. Maybe he sensed this would happen. But Wynne is different. She has already sacrificed her 14 year marriage to pursue her lesbian lover who she brought into her home to sleep next to her children’s bedroom. She’s a militant crusader for the GLBT movement and will stop at nothing to further their agenda.

We are the majority, let’s show it.

Organizers of door-to-door petition campaigns found that roughly 80% of people were against the curriculum yet they all thought they were the only ones. This is why big numbers for the protest will work wonders. People will know they are not alone. Two big protests are coming up next Tuesday, April 14th from 10am til noon. One will be at Queen’s Park in Toronto and several thousand are expected. The other will be in London at Victoria Park; it is also expected to be large.
