Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/19/2014

Despite a government ban, pro-Palestinian demonstrators took to the streets of Paris today and clashed with police. Other anti-Israel demos and threats against Jews were reported in the Netherlands, Britain, Denmark, Canada, and various cities in the United States. There’s no word yet on whether people have rallied against Israel in Australia or New Zealand.

In other news, for the first time in history, the Iraqi city of Mosul is free of Christians. The last Christian families fled the city ahead of an ISIS deadline as the soldiers of Allah burned the seat of the Syriac Catholic archdiocese of Mosul, destroying everything inside.

Hate Rally in Canada, Israel’s Strongest Ally

Yesterday there was a pro-Palestinian protest outside of city hall in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the city where I come from. It has been extremely frustrating for me to see images of protests around the world and understand that open Anti-Semitism is sweeping the streets of Western nations, but this one hit especially close to home…

France: Gaza Demonstration in Paris in Defiance of Authorities Ban

PARIS (EJP) — Around 3,000 people demonstrated for Gaza Saturday afternoon deying a ban from French Minister of Interior Bernard Cazeneuve.

The demonstrators assembled in the largely immigrant Barbes area of Paris following a call by the extreme-left New Anti-capitalist Party.

Police prevented them marching into the city centre.

The Interior Minister had banned demonstrations in the French capital, citing the “danger to public order” and referring to on two Paris synagogues after a pro-Gaza demonstration last Sunday.

Protests were also banned in Nice in the south-east and Sarcelles, near Paris.

French President François Hollande earlier threatened that “those who want to demonstrate at any price” could be punished.

Italy: Five More Arrests in Carige Fraud Probe

Ex-president Berneschi arrested in May

(ANSA) — Genoa, July 17 — Italian police issued five more arrest warrants on Thursday as part of an investigation into alleged fraud at mid-sized bank Carige.

The general director and deputy director of the bank’s trust centre were jailed along with a financial agent.

The police also issued arrest warrants to the bank’s former president, Giovanni Berneschi, and his daughter-in-law, Francesca Amisano, although they had both already been arrested previously in May. Last month police seized five million euros from accounts in the names of Berneschi, Amisano and the former chief executive officer of the Carige Vita Nuova subsidiary, Fernando Menconi.

Berneschi, who was Carige’s president until last year, was arrested in May along with Menconi and real-estate businessman Ernesto Cavallini.

Police said they believe Berneschi, 77, was the ringleader of a scam involving purchases made at inflated prices of stakes in companies headed by accomplices, which allegedly made it possible for 21 million euros to be taken out of Italy into Switzerland between 2006 and 2009.

They suspect that part of this money was used to buy properties in Switzerland in the name of senior figures at Carige, a Genoa-based lender with about 1,000 branches and two million clients.

Thursday’s operation cames after investigations led prosecutors to believe Carige manages used the trust centre to avoid monitoring of the Bank of Italy over illegal operations.

The inquiry commissioned by Birmingham City Council found evidence of religious extremism in 13 schools as school governors and teachers tried to promote and enforce radical Islamic values.

Schools put up posters warning children that if they didn’t pray they would “go to hell”, Christmas was cancelled and girls were taught that women who refused to have sex with their husbands would be “punished” by angels “from dusk to dawn”…

UK: London’s Anti-Israel Protesters Only Pretend to Care About Muslims

by Douglas Murray

Thousands of anti-Semites have today succeeded in bringing central London to an almost total standstill.

They marched through the centre of the city before congregating to scream outside the Israeli Embassy in Kensington. It was interesting to watch this rather non-diverse crowd pass. Most of the women seem to be wearing headscarves or the burka, while their men-folk were naturally more appropriately dressed for a sweltering summer day…

Meet This Young Doctor Who Joined ISIS and Killed 30 People in a Suicide Attack!

New Delhi: A Saudi Salafi doctor joined ISIS as a suicide bomber and killed 30 people in an attack on a checkpoint south of Kirkuk. It is not clear how Faisal bin Shaman al-Aanzi died or was killed.

According to one Twitter account, he was blown up in a car, while another account said he was killed while attending to the injured militants in an ISIS base which was shelled.

This is not the first time that Salafi Wahhabi and Deobandi have transformed into suicide bombers. The Saudi-funded Salafi and Deobandi mosques and hate preachers are slowly converting many peaceful Sunni Muslims into radical Salafi killing machines.

There are also reports that say Shaman al-Aanzi may have responded to the call issued by the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. It might be recalled that Baghdadi said, “Those who can immigrate to the Islamic State should immigrate, as immigration to the house of Islam is a duty.”

India: Bangalore: 17 Year Old Novice Gang Raped

Local Church reports attack to AsiaNews. The Archbishop, Msgr. Bernard Moras, expresses “deep sorrow for the inhumane act suffered by this young girl. This act is a shameful blot on the dignity of our women, society and the nation.” Three men broke into the convent and raped the girl, who has been hospitalized.

Mumbai (AsiaNews) — The Indian Church is suffering “deep sorrow and anguish” following the gang rape of a 17 year old pre-novice in Bangalore, attacked two days ago in the Institute of the Sisters of the Holy Nativity by three men.

The brutal attack was reported to AsiaNews by Msgr. Bernard Moras (see photo), Archbishop of Bangalore, according to who “this barbaric and inhumane act accomplished this on a girl, in the rooms of a convent, is to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. His violence affects each of us” . Found in a state of unconsciousness, the girl is now hospitalized at St. John’s Hospital.

The attack took place shortly after lunch time. The victim was alone in her room on the ground floor of the Institute in Hennur, when someone rang the bell. She went to open: three men sprinkled some chemical substance and she fainted. They trailed her outside, raped and then fled away, leaving her unconscious. Everything happened in 10 minutes. Yesterday, the victim filed a complaint and the police opened an investigation on the basis of sect. 376 of the Indian Penal Code (“rape” carries a minimum of seven years to life in prison).

“This crime — said Msgr. Moras — is doubly cruel because it affects a woman, and because this girl who had the desire to consecrate her life to God instead has been violated in the most brutal way possible. Last night I prayed all night, for this young girl, for her religious community, for her family, for our state and for India”.

“In our schools — said the prelate — we teach moral values to people and respect for the dignity of women. This act is a shameful blot on the dignity of our women, society and nation. I demand justice for all victims.”

The immigrants were probably killed by carbon monoxide fumes. Three others were in serious condition. One of them was taken to Lampedusa by the Italian coastguard, but died on the way. The other two were transported to a hospital in Palermo by helicopter. The merchant vessel has taken the remaining 600 people on board.

More Than Half the World’s Population Lives in Cities

India will lead the way, as the country’s urban population is expected to swell by 404 million people between now and 2050. Tokyo will continue to top the mega-city list followed by Delhi, Shanghai, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Beijing, Osaka, and Cairo. This trend will be challenge for health care, schools, food, and housing.

New York City (AsiaNews/Agencies) — More than half the world’s population lives in cities and India and China are expected to lead the future growth in urbanisation.

Therefore, the world must prepare for the challenges of ever-larger cities in terms of health, education, food and housing, this according to 2014 revision of the World Urbanisation Prospects released on Thursday.

Until now, China contributed the most to rapid urbanisation. However, India is projected to add the highest number of people to its urban population by 2050, ahead of China, with 404 million more people in its cities.

This year, Delhi (pictured) has already become the second largest city in the world — 25 million — twice what it was in 1990.

Mumbai, with 20.7 million inhabitants, is India’s other Indian mega cities among the top 10 most populous cities.

Tokyo tops the report’s list of megacities, with a population of more than 37.8 million, and should remain first until 2030. Shanghai is second at 23 million, followed by Mexico City and Sao Paulo (Brazil) with 21 million.

Beijing, New York (with Newark) Osaka and Cairo are in the top-ten list.

Over all, India, China and Nigeria will account for 37 percent of the projected growth of the urban population between now and 2050 when the world’s urban population is expected to crest at 6.3 billion.

The pace of urbanisation has been remarkably swift. In 1950, only 30 percent of the world’s people lived in cities. That has grown to 54 percent in 2014.

The overall numbers of rural inhabitants are projected to decline to 3.1 billion in 2050 from 3.4 billion today.

  1. > for the first time in history, the Iraqi city of Mosul is free of Christians

Not the first time in history, but certainly the first time in almost 2000 years. Christianity had a beginning.

    • You’re right, I should have said, “For the first time in the history of Christianity.”

  2. I have just been reading your coverage of the “pro-palestinian” demonstrations in London and elsewhere. It is clear that, given notice, the left is capable of mobilising large numbers of supporters.

What drives me to the depths of despair is that these thousands of people and many others, who have have bought into the leftist/islamic lies propagated by the various leftist and arab media outlets, have been left so severely brainwashed both by cultural marxism and islam that they will probably never recover their sanity. It shows me what we are up against.

I knew it was never going to be easy, but this? The Morlocks are winning and I am glad I got out of Europe when I did.

  3. @More Than Half the World’s Population Lives in Cities

These statistics are misleading as they are based on metropolitan regions beyond the city boundaries and the urban sprawl.
