“Because He Can”

The letter below, from Governor Brewer of the state of Arizona, is appearing in PDF formats all over the intertubes. This is a reformatted version, sans the state seal and such.

Governor Brewer asks President Obama to explain why hundreds, if not thousands, of destitute illegal aliens are being dropped into Arizona cities without so much as a by-your-leave to state officials. At the very least it is inhumane and reckless, given the climate in Arizona.

The governor follows up on page 2 with a list of specific inquiries about these dumpings.

As necessary as it was for her to write it, Obama probably won’t answer Governor Brewer’s letter, but if you were a fly on the wall, you’d probably hear him say, as he has in the past, “I won.”

And indeed he did win. Too bad the American people are the losers here. Yet again.

This reminds me of a book I read a long time ago about spousal abuse. It was one of the first of the popular academic treatises that would be written on family violence. The second chapter, in which the authors explained the why of men beating their wives, was titled simply “Because He Can”. (Now of course in these days of equality, men come in for their share of the slaps and shoves from their mates.)

As for Obama and his traducing of the Constitution, his contempt for the electorate, the endless scandals of his administration, etc., one can only ask, “Feeling abused yet?”

Arizona Executive Office
June 2, 2014

The Honorable Barack Obama
President of the United States
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear Mr. President:

I write regarding media reports that the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is transporting hundreds, and potentially thousands, of illegal aliens from the south Texas border and releasing them at bus stations in Tucson and Phoenix.

As Governor of Arizona, I am deeply concerned about this troubling policy and the adverse impact on the illegal aliens, as well as to Arizona. It is especially disconcerting that DHS instituted this operation without any notification to my office, the Arizona Department of Public Safety or the Arizona Department of Homeland Security. We instead learned of this action from the news media.

Our nation and the State of Arizona face significant challenges stemming from your administration’s refusal to carry out its responsibility to secure our country’s southern border. State and local governments, law enforcement agencies, health care providers and non- profit organizations are all stretched to the breaking point attempting to manage the enormity of these challenges. By systematically transporting and releasing more illegal aliens into Arizona, your administration will exacerbate this problem.

This unwarranted operation is another disturbing example of a deliberate failure to enforce border security policies and repair a broken immigration system. Media reports indicate that many of the illegal aliens that DHS is releasing into Arizona from Texas are women, children, and unaccompanied juveniles. The reports also indicate that DHS has abandoned these individuals at the bus stations without any food, water or basic necessities. I remind you that the daytime temperatures in Arizona during this time of year are regularly more than 100 degrees. Consequently, this federal operation seems to place expediency over basic humanitarian concerns. The federal government should not shirk its lawful responsibility to care for and properly process these individuals…

So that the citizens of our country may fully understand the scope and goal of this operation, I ask that your administration provide answers to me regarding the following questions:

1.   Who authorized this policy, and why has the federal government selected Arizona as the target?
2.   When was the policy initiated, and how much longer is the operation expected to proceed?
3.   How many aliens have been transported from other states to Arizona and released through this operation?
4.   How many aliens have designated Arizona as their ultimate destination?
5.   How many aliens are designated as a “family unit,” and how many have been designated as “unaccompanied juveniles?”
6.   What does the federal government know about the backgrounds and histories of the aliens being transported and released in Arizona?
7.   What proactive steps is DHS or any other federal agency undertaking to establish emergency housing/detention space to properly process those aliens?
8.   What has caused this massive influx of illegal aliens such that federal operations in Texas are unable to handle the processing of these individuals?
9.   What is being done to secure the border in Texas to prevent the continued illegal crossings that have “forced” the federal government to transport illegal aliens from Texas and release them in Arizona?

In closing, I urge you to end this dangerous and unconscionable policy immediately, and instead take actions to fulfill the federal government’s fundamental responsibility of protecting our homeland by securing our nation’s borders.

Janice K. Brewer

This protocol, “Dump and Run”, is similar to the procedures over-populated mental hospitals use to “discharge” patients. The staff buys a one-way bus ticket to a destination the patient may be suspected to have come from originally. And this geographic cure for the institutions’ over-population problem becomes a headache for those on the receiving end. Nevada, the center for legalized gambling, prostitution, etc., ends up having to take in the losers and the distraught when they’re down and out. So their solution? “Just get on the bus, Gus.”

No, Nevada is not going to give up the lucrative business model they have in place. Nor are they going to require a surcharge on these establishments in order to be able to humanely treat the losers who litter the landscape after all their money has been vacuumed out of their pockets.

Harry Reid is one of Nevada’s senators and a very powerful man is he. “Harry The Horrible” rules with an iron fist and his rule does not include benign or adequate treatment for the vulnerables which hellholes like Vegas and Reno inevitably attract. The cost of doing business does not include help for the sad folks who end up down and out and full of fear and loathing in Nevada.

  1. What else can one expect from a criminal administration that is the Obama administration?

Brewer has been politically targeted and she knows it.

  2. And yet, according to Rasmussen Reports’ survey of registered, likely voters, almost half of the those surveyed approve of Obama.

That seems bizarre to me, but so it is.

    • There’s a widespread reluctance to believe that Obama himself is a genuinely bad man, even among some who don’t support many of his policies, and I think it’s a residue of the racial pandering that got him elected in the first place.

I have little doubt that many people are basically trying to protect their souls from the taint of bigotry by avoiding the reasonable conclusion that the “first black president” happens to be one of the most ethically challenged persons ever to hold the office. Obviously his ethical defects are not connected with his race, except insofar as the race factor prevented any serious vetting of his character (or of the people he surrounds himself with).

      • Rasmussen himself trends conservative in his political views and his polls (I should have said poll, not survey) tend to be more accurate than others. For one thing, he polls only likely voters, not the general public. That’s what makes the results so disheartening. Actually today 52% said that approved of Obama’s performance. Of course Rasmussen averages the results of the polls of the last 3 days, so it may dip a bit over the next few days. But in general, Obama’s numbers have been up. Unbelievable but true.

  3. When I read this, the first thought I had was: Isn’t that what the Nazis did in occupied Poland?

    • Unfortunately, “these people” and their evil designs are being abetted by many others who consider themselves conservatives but of the “reasonable” kind — not like those “anti-immigrant” “exclusionists” who have the gall to demand that our laws be respected and our borders be protected.

The anti-“exclusionists” typically do not live in the Southwest or anywhere near it. They have no real understanding of what the invasion from the south is doing, aside from providing laborers for their wealthy friends, and perhaps a gardener for themselves.

Recently John Batchelor — an anti-“exclusionist” who lives in New York City — professed to be baffled by the attitude of the people who oppose amnesty (and open borders). He rhapsodized about how wonderful New York is, with people and languages from all over the world, and you never know what country you’ll meet when you get into a cab. Why doesn’t everyone appreciate this? he wondered.

      Two reasons:
      1) Not everyone wants to live in a multinational, multicultural, polyglot metropolis; probably most people don’t; and there’s compelling evidence that such places are low on the scale of social trust.
      2) What’s being created in large areas of the Southwest is rather different from the cosmopolitan city that Batchelor enjoys; it’s more like Mexico del Norte, with Spanish displacing English in public life, and sometimes the Mexican flag replacing the Stars and Stripes. In those places, there is a diminishing need to learn the nation’s common language or even to identify with the United States of America.

  4. If I were the Governor, I would make a call to arms to secure the borders, to monitor the dumping places and to generally harass the Federal agents. But I doubt anyone would have the courage needed to do this. Complain, complain, complain. Outrage, outrage, outrage. All of it amounts to nothing.

  5. Brewer made herself — and her state, of which I am a resident –an easy mark for abuse by presenting herself a tool of the Obama regime in the now infamous special sessions of May 16, 2013, and June 11, 2013.

    “Arizona Senate – May 16, 2013
Senator John McComish makes a motion to suspend the rules of the Senate. That night six Republicans, McComish, Steve Pierce, Michele Reagan, Rich Crandall, Adam Driggs, and Robert Worsley vote with 100% of the Democrat caucus to bring Obrewercare to Arizona. Senate Bill 1492.
The bill proceeds to the House where the Appropriations Committee strips the Medicaid Expansion from the Health Bill HB2010. The bill proceeds to the next committee

Arizona House – June 11, 2013 – Governor Brewer calls a Special Session
At approximately 5:30 pm the Republicans returned to the Capitol to approximately 600 pages of a budget containing everything the Democrats wanted. Increased spending, increased taxes, and restoring bureaucracies and regulations.
Representative Jeff Dial makes a motion to suspend the rules of the House. Nine Republican State Legislators form an alliance with Democratic elected officials for the express purpose of thwarting the will of the Republican majority in the legislature and violating Republican Party principles and the Republican Party Platform. Representative Pratt proceeds over the next 10 hours to make 10 motions amending every existing budget bill and then the coup in sync passes every budget bill. They refuse to discuss, debate, or even offer an opinion electing to say “no comment.”‘

You sit down with dogs, you rise up with fleas. And now she’s complaining, and well she should, but I would argue she’s in a mess largely of her own making — and hundreds of thousands are suffering for it in myriad ways.

  6. This is a problem with an obvious solution.
Load them ALL on trains, boats (?), and planes and send them “elsewhere”. Pack an nice halal box lunch, then send them on their way. California would be an ideal destination, but there are MANY blue state destinations at hand and all should get their share of the “bounty”.
From and actuarial standpoint, this would be much cheaper per head than putting each of them up for even a day or so. Since illegal immigration is such a boon (sic.) for the USA, why should a one mere state get all the benefits? Share, share, share!!
(BTW–THAT is the explanation you give when the rest of the ‘country’ protests the arrival of these ‘immigrants’.)
