“Remember That We Are The People”

At a public meeting in Leipzig, an outspoken opponent of a proposed mosque dares to stand up and announce his vehement opposition to the plan. He even has the nerve to point out the similarity between the behavior of the current authorities and those of the DDR, who never bothered to consult the German people when making important decisions.

Many thanks to Carpe Diem for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

0:00   I’d say here in the front, the young man who’s been waiting for some time.
0:08   So, please let — hello — please, let the people in the front ask the questions.
0:12   I have the impression — my name is Christian Hingert(?), I’m from Eutritzsch —
0:16   I have the impression as if today’s event
0:20   is like the ones from the past under the communists.
0:24   The people have to keep their mouth shut, and you,
0:28   you have already decided everything long ago.
0:32   You tell us today that the decision has already been taken,
0:36   that the mosque will be built, and we won’t tolerate that any longer.
0:40   We went out onto the streets in ’89.
0:44   You came to Leipzig and had it made.
0:48   You were in the Golden West when we went onto the streets,
0:52   and we will go onto the streets again,
0:56   and we will be against the mosque.
1:00   We are the people. We are the people and we will remain the people.
1:04   We are German, German and again German!
1:08   Thanks for your statement. We want no public addresses. We want to discuss things from a factual viewpoint.
1:12   Excuse me. Thank you. Thank you.
1:16   I said “Thank you”.
1:20   One of the most accomplished politicians of our time,
1:24   Helmut Schmidt, said on TV six weeks ago:
1:28   In a democracy, you can say everything even if it’s wrong.
1:32   But here one gets oppressed instantly.
1:36   You can’t do that Mr Jung. Remember that
1:40   we are the people. OK. Thank you.

  2. Good on that opponent of the mosque! I hope there are many thousands more like him in Leipzig (and across Germany). There *need* to be.

That “German” adjective represents a fact.
    Get over it.

  4. A little too late for Europe to avoid its hellish fate. That’s because its rulers collude with the enemy and “we the people” are still asleep. WHEN the house owner colludes with the burglar, they can steal a bull up the chimney and no one notices. The impossible becomes possible. There is a drive in human race that pushes them to create wars even when they say they want to prevent wars. And in this drive Thatchers are as equal as anyone. The more educated people of the west become, the more stupid and servile to their enemies they become.
