When Should a Book Not Be Written?

“A perversion of logic as much as a loss of courage”

Diana West spoke last night as a guest of Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton, Massachusetts. Her topic was the continuing controversy over her book, American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character.

In the following clip you’ll hear Ms. West point out the manifest falsehoods that have been circulated about American Betrayal. They seem to represent an attempted “takedown” of her book, a deliberate assault intended to destroy her professional standing as a writer.

The author also explains how she fell into the research that eventually resulted in the book. She began by investigating an entirely different topic, the penetration of the United States government by agents of the Muslim Brotherhood, and followed the trail of evidence back to Communist penetration in the 1930s and 1940s. The parallels between the two cases are striking — each involves the subversion of our government by a totalitarian ideology that seeks the overthrow of our constitutional republic.

Many thanks to The United West for recording the event, and to Vlad Tepes for editing this excerpt:

I recommend watching the full two-hour video at United West. Diana West’s talk begins at about 12:30, and a Q&A follows her remarks. You’ll hear a lot about what what’s in the book, including some quotes read by the author, and more remarks about the nexus between what happened in the 1940s and the current “civilization jihad” against our country.

  5. She simply attacks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many icons of the recent past.
She simply is much too effective, too well researched, too many footnotes.
She simply must be dessstroyyt in order for our “his tory” to function.
Vee muss get wit the program!
    Vorwarts!

  6. Two points:
    1) Some of the most significant revelations are the result of diligent research launched with a completely different goal in mind. It is the ultimate example of objective investigation, especially when the revelation is not even welcomed by the researcher.

    2) It is difficult and distasteful to face a demoralizing truth which has been concealed by a soothing legend, e.g, We never leave anyone behind. We are the champions of liberty and morally impregnable.
Preserving our self-esteem at the cost of the truth requires no moral courage. Facing the unpalatable truth is like the first step in a 12-step program. This contest over American Betrayal, in my opinion, will reveal where our guts are.

  8. Were the 9/11 attacks made to coincide with September 11, 1683, the day before
the Battle of Kahlenberg when the Ottomans, read Muslims, were defeated by
the Polish Army relieving Vienna which was then under siege? Ironically, the date of the attack may have been selected to be reflective of an Islam offensive to offset their
defeat 318 years previously. Unfortunately, it appears that the Walls Of Vienna have
been severely breached, I often allude to the fact that ‘the enemy is in the wire’ when I address veterans groups. The enemy, of course, not only being Muslims but also Arabist and Muslim sympathizers and Islamic apologists in our government among whom are, of ciurse, Barack Obama and John Brennan. These individuals may be
compared with Mattias Corvinus, a Christian, who took Vlad Tepes prisoner and
neutralized his efforts against the Ottomans. Though it may be too late for a
Sobieski, it is not to late for a Dracul, as the nature of the response to Muslim aggression, oppression and subjugation may need to be more drastic. Dhimmitude
    is not an option.

    • Among the Islam-apologists I would include the mainline Christian leadership, with its enthusiasm for interfaith dialogue and its certainty that people who partake in regular prayers and wear “modest” garb must be kindred spirits in a common quest for the godly life.

It’s dismaying to see the desperate efforts of many Christians to assure us that Islam is really much nicer than the behavior it inspires around the world, and even much nicer than its own doctrines would indicate.
