Brrrrr

We just got back from a Memorial Day Weekend outdoor party, and it was the coldest one that I’ve ever been to. We were comfortable while the sun was still up, but after it got dark people put on their coats and crowded around the fire.

The temperature here (Central Virginia) is predicted to drop to 39°F/4°C tonight. Heavy snow fell in parts of New York State and New England this weekend.

Climate change is a bitch.

  1. That because you stick to facts and reality.

You have to think “global warming” and stuff like that. I bet you would feel warmer then 🙂

  2. There are similar temperatures here in Austria. Very cold, lots of snow in the mountainous western part of Austria, and little sunshine here in Vienna.

    Damn that climate change.

  3. Funny.. Virginia is about the same latitude as spain. Here in Finland it’s been a steady 20C on midday, a real good, enjoyable summer weather, and we’re about the same latitude with Greenland. Were it hotter than this it would get uncomfortable, so I’ll enjoy it as long as it lasts 🙂

  4. I love this weather. Ain’t gonna last but while it’s been here, I’ve enjoyed it. Looked at the weather and in a few days it will be 90 F here. That’s ~32 C.

And no rain forecast this week. That’s another thing I’ve enjoyed of late: thunderstorms w/ more sturm and less drang, so that no trees fall on the electric wires or blow out transformers…but the water table for the well stays nice and high.

This has been a memorable Spring. It started out miserably with extremely cold weather at the traditional planting time around here for peas and onions: March 17th was too cold & rainy to work the ground. Then it went to 90 degrees and I was not in the best of moods, predicting all sorts of Sahara Desert outcomes by July. And then…and then…a benison. Cool dry weather interspersed with lots of showers, enough to keep the Baron busy mowing the grass repeatedly.

So I had my wonderful Spring interlude after all. And when that 90/32 heat hits on Friday, I shan’t complain…oh well, a little muttering maybe.

  5. Climate change causes bizarre changes in weather in both directions — freakish heat waves and freakish cold snaps. It’s part of the pattern that was predicted years ago. Unfortunately, we’re facing two civilization-threatening crises at once: the spread of Islam and the ravages of climate change. One strategic move would help with both: if we move to homegrown, renewable sources of energy (wind, solar and geothermal) we’ll slow down the rate of climate change *and* send a lot less money to countries that are funding jihad.
