The Gates of Vienna Hijra

Gates of Vienna has moved. Our new location is The migration is underway. Should we call it the Hijra? Or maybe the Islamophobic Trail of Tears?

I owe a big debt of gratitude to Henrik Ræder Clausen, Vlad Tepes, and KGS for their help setting up the new site and tutoring me in the nuances of WordPress. Extra thanks are due to Vlad for hosting last night’s news feed.

Previous content has migrated to the new site. We have the archives and the comments, but the new template hasn’t really been established — just the bare minimum to get us up and running. The rest of the process will take a while.

The old site at blogspot will not redirect to the new site, because Google has locked the blog. We have filed a request for a review of our status, but there’s no telling whether that will work — Google has not communicated with us except for the initial notice, which was as follows:

Google has received a Terms of Service complaint regarding malicious
code on your blog. After conducting our review, and in accordance with
Google’s Terms of Service, we have removed the content at issue.

Terms of Service:
Content Policy:

The Google Team

In the meantime, if everyone could change their links to us on their sites, as well as their bookmarks, that will help the search engines find the new URL and give us back some of our ranking.

If I have any other important news about all this, I’ll send out another mass email. Otherwise, check in at here for information on the situation. At some point normal posting will resume.

Thank you all for your interest and support.

  1. I think it would be a good idea to adjust the permalink structure of this blog to the old. As far as I can see, the only difference is the “.html” at the end, which is included in blogspot posts, but not in WP.

WP offers the opportunity under the permalinks menu, to define a customized permalink structure, so it is worth while trying out whether an .html at the end is working under WP.

If it is, it is far easier for other bloggers, especially WP bloggers using the Broken Links plugin ( to adjust their links.

This comment is only for the authors, you needn’t publish it.

Good luck, Ned & the Crew

  3. Congratulations

I wonder what it was that Google/NWO objected to, we may neve know…

  4. Good to see ya back B and D.

I may be way off, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that WordPress has been known to disappear bligs here or there, all in the name of a degraded world movement of love and light. So I suggest you keep your guns and computer backups fully loaded.

It’s only paranoia if it really happening, and you actually like it! Hee-Haw.

    • Over at 1389 Blog, we rent our hosting from GoDaddy and use the downloadable, open-source WordPress software from We don’t use the “free hosting” from because we believe that free hosting means you get what you pay for.

We started out on Google Blogger ourselves, but we saw them making problems for other counterjihad blogs and we decided that wasn’t for us. We have had no censorship problems from GoDaddy.

GoV and 1389 Blog agree on all issues of substance, but differ with regard to geographic reporting beat. Gates of Vienna is the voice of the European counterjihad, whereas 1389 Blog focuses on the counterjihad in the Anglosphere and in Orthodox Christian lands.

    • Baron is well aware of this potential problem. The new site is not at, but rather on an independent server that happens to be running the WordPress software. WordPress (the company) cannot – and does not want to – control such sites.

I think the transition is good. Am looking forward to the diamond getting a bit less rough over the coming days.

  5. Good to see that you are up and running on a different site. I had only just written a piece criticising Google’s suspension of your blog when I discovered a link to your new location via a post on the Infidel Bloggers Alliance that. I shall update my blog accordingly.

  6. Ironically I went on to Google to find out what had happened to you. Have you back now in bookmarks. Very nice, easy reading site. All the best.

  7. Good for you! Stinkin’ Google! I’ve tried moving to WordPress but I can’t get it to work. Your blog is working fine now and I’ve changed all my links. BEST WISHES fellow Patriot.

  9. Welcome back from the dungeons of Ummah-Google! – Finally I can comment again, without the googleristas blowing my identity, whereabouts, poltical affiliations and shoe-size all over the world… And we have adjusted our links to GoV!

  10. It’s good to see you back online. I believe it would be a good idea for any other conservative blogs to leave google asap. They took you down and you likely won’t be their last victims.

  11. Great to see you back up!

“The migration is underway. Should we call it the Hijra? Or maybe the Islamophobic Trail of Tears?”

    The Long March?

    The Crossing (of the Delaware)?

  12. Welcome back, I’ve been waiting to delete the old blog’s Google bookmark.

So they claim malicious code was the problem, which they say they removed. Yet the entire blog is shut down. Is that an admission they considered the whole blog to be malicious? I say yes, it does, only because we already knew that’s what they thought.

  13. Exhale . . .oh, what a relief it is to see Gates of Vienna is back! It would be an added to bonus to be able to post comments again too . . .let’s see what happens-

  14. Congratulations on such a quick recovery. There may be a few technical glitches to sort in the coming days and weeks but the main thing is the content is intact and back online. Can’t imagine what Google are playing at.

  15. Welcome back up.

Indeed it would be very interesting to get to see the
“malicious code”. Indeed if that really is the case the site must have been hacked, or GoV have used 3rd party plugins with malicious code, both seem highly unlikely. But we may never know, because google would properly never give send the “review” report. “It smells and it aint a bad code smell.”

“Don’t be evil”. Yeah right Google.
Keep up the good work GoV and all other various bloggers!

  16. Nice! Cant believe how quickly you got things migrated! Hope there werent arent too many headaches.

Can you do a redirect from the original site, so as to retain old links from other sites, especially from the likes of the Sunday Times, but also the hundreds of thousands of references to specific posts?

Are the comments, wiped for good? That would be a shame.

    • 1) Redirect from the old site is technically possible, but depends on getting the ToS issue constructively resolved.

      2) The old comments are still in the process of importing. There is more than 110,000 of them, and the import code is dreadfully inefficient with large numbers of posts/comments. Do look for comments on recent posts (the last couple of years), they should be in place by now.

  17. Surely Google ought to supply a reason for their action. Maybe they won’t! I suppose the good news is that someone somewhere thinks that GofV is important enough to attack!

    Good luck Baron and Dumphna.

  18. Going to read what’s going on in GatesofVienna more often again – now told de-capaci-tion of l’Quaida done outside.

  19. Well done setting yourself up reasonably well so quickly.

From now on I will never ‘google’ or tell anyone else to: ‘google it’. I’ll mainly use ‘Bing’ or any other search engine except ‘Yahoo’ – that’s another tyrant worshipping company.

  20. Glad to see GOV find a new home.

On this “malicious code” thing, visitors to the old GOV link are not greeted with a message indicating anything about a “malicious code”. In fact, as I wrote on my blog:

Instead of getting to the blog when you click on its link, you get this Orwellian, Kafkaesque notice:

“This blog is under review due to possible Blogger Terms of Service violations and is open to authors only”.

And what “Term of Service” did Gates of Vienna likely “violate”? No doubt this one, found under their “Content policy” page, in which with one hand they claim to support freedom of speech, but with the other — just as the Constitution under the totalitarian Soviet Union in large print guaranteed rights but took them away in the fine print — they provide themselves with a broad loophole to arbitrarily invoke the irrational paradigm of PC MC in order to trample that right:

Hate Speech: We want you to use Blogger to express your opinions, even very controversial ones. But, don’t cross the line by publishing hate speech. By this, we mean content that promotes hate or violence towards groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity. For example, don’t write a blog saying that members of Race X are criminals or advocating violence against followers of Religion Y.

    [end of quote]

It seems likely that the shut down was due to ideological reasons — i.e., the irrational PC MC aversion to an irrationally defined “hate speech”; and that they received complaints from people about such putative “hate speech”; and that, finally, those complaints may well have been a concerted effort coordinated by a high number of complainants practicing the “jihad of the pen” (or “jihad of the mouse” — Jihad bil-Farfur).

  21. It is good to see you up and running. I hope this will be better for you than Blogger. What is Blogger’s loss will be a big gain in the name of truth.

  22. Glad to see you up and running. I found today that Google Chrome will not load my blog anymore. It says it’s taking too long. Probably just a glitch, but annoying nonetheless. Thankfully, I can once again use IE to post.

Keep up the great work. Now I’m off to change the link to your site in my blogroll. 🙂

  23. ChristianInfidel says:

So good to see you back online, and so soon! Many thanks to those who are helping you with the transition. It’s astonishing how fragile free speech becomes when one gets the sort of vigilante censorship we are seeing– whether this is a case of it or not, though it certainly smells like it is. I’m a bit embarrassed that it took me until a few minutes ago to find out. I hope I’m following proper protocol concerning name, etc., with this new format.

    • Yes, the old Gates of Vienna ‘Classic’ is back up. I expected that to happen eventually, it happened a bit faster than expected.

In any case, barring any unforeseen developments, the move is permanent. There are still many things to be done and tweaked, but for all intents and purposes, Gates of Vienna is here, not there.

One of the tricky issues is importing the old comments. We have some 48,000 in place, but there are over 60,000 yet to go, and the software is causing pains on this. We’re working on it, but getting 5 years old comments may not be the highest of priorities.

      • I would’ve never guessed that they will put it back online. I really don’t understand what they thought this could achieve. Probably just some damage control (“It’s a lie, folks, nothing to see here, we don’t really censor blogs”).

I’m happy to hear that GoV is not going back and I for one will be waiting patiently for evere piece to fall back into place. 🙂

  25. Goethe chose mercy.
    Mohammed did not.
I am pleased you are out of the Lion’s Den, and I hope the literary and polemical treasures you have accumulated over the years are safe.
Blogger has decided to weaken public dialogue significantly. To hear them bleat about diversity is the ultimate hypocrisy– the only protection diversity has is diversity itself.
All multiculturalism, “anti-racism” and political correctness in rhetoric and content of discussion is an attempt to impose unity, to destroy diversity.
There is no unity in diversity.
I wish Western Civilization, which was founded on so much truth, would stop embracing lies.
Again, I am relieved to see you.

  26. While you were on your unexpected downtime and I am sure it caused you great trauma, which neither of you , especially Dymphna needed, many of us were scurrying in our own way to support you and get the word out. Many of us rely on you and if I have to sell a dog to help you, I will, oh wait, I already did that to get my cataract surgery soon. Only time I saw my very serious opthamalogist laugh, and when he told me I had glaucoma and needed both eye surgeries I said, no problem, I have another dog and a very old cat. So sometimes your captchas get me. Right now in Canada it is so cold the whole house is banging and our monthly electricity bills are $400. So, pay for my eyes, nothing is free, pay for electricity or figure out a way to send you two fantastic people a small donation, you win. It will be coming because I believe in you and what you are doing. Thank you on behalf of citizens of the Free World. Thank you for posting on twitter and other media how important the new Canadian SUNTVNEWSNETWORK is to the free world and how in jeopardy it is right now. Imagine the gall of the Canadian government with a system of old , and I mean old appararachicks, or however it is spelled, imagine their pensions, appointed when I was young and gorgeous like Dymphna, telling every Canadian citizen what they can see or not see on TV? I guess this is my not very eloquent way of telling you how important you are to those of us who value free speech. And Freedom. One of Canada’s political rising stars on this network tells the truth every day, Ezra Levant, he sometimes said it but we Canadians, the 4/10 ALLOWED to see him each day encouraged him to say this at the end of each show: FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM EVERY DAY. Like you. Thanks .

  27. Glad to see you’re back up. Google dhimm-wits may think they can control the flow of information, but they are very much mistaken. Keep up the great work!
