The Influence of the Salafists

We’ve posted about the German author Necla Kelek several times over the past few years. Ms. Kelek is a practicing Muslim of Turkish extraction. She is also one of those rare birds: a truly “moderate” Muslim who is educated, tolerant, and has assimilated to German values. She refuses to acknowledge the ascendancy of the Islamic fundamentalist movements that are now sweeping the Middle East and Europe.

The following article was prompted by the proposal by a group of German Salafists to give away 25 million copies of a German-language Koran. Many thanks to JLH for translating Ms. Kelek’s piece from Frankfurter Allegemeine Zeitung, via Europe News.

The Influence of the Salafists: Democracy Is the Opposite of Islam
by Necla Kelek

The philosophy of the Salafists is as old as time — older than the pedestrian zones where they are passing out the Koran. They are making it easy on themselves there: their political program is an intensification of heaven and hell.

I was in Tunis in January of this year to speak with women about heir situation after the revolution. The great provocation locally was the occupation of Manouba University by Salafists. On the campus of the linguistic faculty, outside the city and lined with orange trees, about 8,000 young people are educated as language teachers.

Necla KelekOn the way there, we encountered several female students wearing head-scarves and niqabs, who had not been able to study for six weeks because teaching had been halted on account of the occupation. They sympathized with the occupiers but were afraid that their year of study would not be recognized.

The rector had been locked in his office by the demonstrators. Since no one had helped him, he abruptly halted teaching in November. I expected a large group of occupiers. But as we came onto campus on January 5th, neither students nor demonstrators, nor even police were to be seen. The young women led us the rectorate — a one-story building. Six young men were sitting on their sleeping bags in the foyer in front of the rector’s office. These were the occupiers.

Is the niqab/burqa a part of this?

I asked what they were aiming for with their action. “We want our women,” said the speaker, “ to study according to the rules of our religion.”

“Which are?”

“They must be allowed to study and take exams in Islamic clothing.”

“The niqab — full cover?”

“Yes, that is the clothing Islam prescribes for us.”

“But then no one can know who is sitting across the table,” I objected, in order to express the practical problems of identification in examinations.

“The burqa is allowed in Oxford,” the speaker answered. “We claim protection of minorities. It is our freedom. The time of oppression is past.”

A placard in the foyer showing a covered woman proclaimed: “You cannot free me if you take away my rights.” The Islamists feel emancipated, because they were persecuted under Ben Ali and now are not under any control. They speak of dignity and say that Western freedom is only caprice and corruption.

As proof, they invoke their piety and poverty. They say their religion is true-to-the-word Islam and its law is sharia. They interpret this as Allah’s commandment which is made over human beings, as are also the Islamic principle of vengeance, family law and Islamic criminal law.

The caricature of a religion

Scene change: According to a report by CBN, the population in Brussels in 2030 will be majority Muslim. Already today, a Salafist group called “Sharia4Belgium” is agitating for the introduction of Islamic regulations. Their spokesperson, Abu Imran states openly what the group is about: “Democracy is the opposite of Islam. Allah says what is allowed and what is forbidden.”

Further: “A democratic Muslim is as absurd as imagining Christian Jews.” In such interpretations, the Salafists are fundamentally distinguished from other Muslims and moderate Islamic parties, which to be sure want sharia, but not as a judicial category. The Salafists falsify Islam by reducing it to an ideology in which absolute obedience is demanded of the believer. The seventh-century outlook of these simplifiers is a caricature of a world religion. The intensified emphasis on the question of heaven or hell is their political program,

Those passing out Korans in German pedestrian zones are arguing according to this simple model. So we should not take it too lightly and assume that all this is happening coincidentally and the initiator of the action is a “lone wolf”. I have encountered the same standard arguments in my travels in Luxor, Kairouan or Marrakesh. As if all of them had attended the same Koran school in Riyadh.

Religious freedom and freedom of expression

Everywhere and with partial success, the petrodollar-financed Salafists are attempting to implement their strategy, to occupy public squares, to be perceived as freedom fighters, apostles of morality and true believers. In Egypt, “the party of light.” as they call themselves there, elected almost 30% of the parliament; in Tunisia they are occupying University Street and mosques and are preaching in parliament; in Marrakesh, they are racing through the Medina on mopeds shouting “Allahu Akhbar”; and here [Europe] they are praying in public and on Youtube.

Seen theologically, these Islamists are a medieval joke — sanctimonious hypocrites. Visually, rather more Islamic punks with a kepi and a scraggly beard and to be taken as seriously as the [mythica] black ram. Reactionaries seldom shine by their intellectual accomplishments, but mostly by aggression, chutzpah and a plain, ahistoric friend-or-foe philosophy.

How do the local media and public react? At first, helplessly. The news of the day shows older women receiving books from friendly men in knit kepis. The word spreads of allegedly 25 million free copies of the Koran to be given out. The politicians ponder religious freedom vs. freedom of expression and hope that nothing will happen. Sharia must not apply as family law.

“There is no doubt about the importance for everyone of reading the Koran,” declares the coordinating council of Muslims (KRM) about the Koran distribution action. One would hope that the holy book is not being “instrumentalized.” Ali Kizilkaya,, speaker of the KRM, sees “no reason for unease” and the general secretary of the Muslim Central Council, Ayman Mayzek, considers the distribution of the Korans a “basically promising act” and supports this with the wisdom which is inherent to the Koran and the invitation to dialogue. No outrage at and barely any indication of the anti-democratic goals of these sectarians, no confrontation of their religious fervor, but only the concern about a further “irksome area of discussion.”

The picture of Islam can only be improved if Muslims and their organizations defend religious freedom against such an abuse. If they lay claim to democratic rights for not only their own protection. Part of that is publicly distancing themselves from the political ideology of the Islamists. The Muslims themselves must peer into their religion’s heart of darkness occupied by the fundamentalists and terrorists and position themselves as protective democrats.

They could, for example, demonstrate with an announcement this week at the Islam conference that they reject the Salafist interpretation; that sharia must not be valid as criminal and family law; and that the danger of fundamentalism lurks in their own ranks.

Testosterone Poisoning and the Counterjihad

The Observer has sent us one of those “you-can’t-make-this-stuff-up” items that is too good not to share with our readers — i.e., you lonely old men out there, sitting in front of your computer thinking evil thoughts about jihadists. Why can’t you get a life?

Bless The Observer for finding this trifle. It’s so stereotypical of the “thinking” in women-dominated cultures — and I include in that group all the sissy men whose nightmares are stalked by the gruesome vagina dentata. In other words, the kinds of men who write this kind of drivel. Or was it written by a woman?

Regardless of the author’s gender, this is simply one more example of mainstream media’s ongoing attempt to replace reality with their own handy “narrative” — and their narrative is ugly indeed. Ugly and mean-spirited, just like all the other smears the Left extrudes from its sausage-making machine and slings at its enemies.

Here’s the deal: according to this “research” our readers are mostly men. Lonely men. Lonely old men. Lonely old men who are ignorant, poorly educated and marginalized by society. They are childless to boot, don’tcha know.

According to the sources they reference, this profile of Counterjihad readers was gleaned by studying the statistics on Alexa. Hmmm… Here’s Alexa’s wiki — do you see any demographic information there? Me neither.

And here’s Alexa itself. I haven’t looked at it in several years but last time I visited, I saw no demographic information. But these Communists, they read tea leaves, so maybe they have the inside track on this voodoo.

Here is The Observer’s translation of the article from today’s VG supporting this thesis. The translator includes this note:

It turns out that the overwhelming majority of GoV visitors are lonely men over 65 with no or very little education. Oh, yes, and they also feel marginalised and ignored by society.

Don’t believe me? Take a look at this article, and everything will be explained to you!

Does this mean VG is guilty of ‘Seniorphobia’? I hear the disease is on the rise among the elites…

Here’s the translated article:

Men are overrepresented on Islam-hostile websites

Single, childless men over 65 years, with little or no education are overrepresented on Islam hostile websites, according to a survey done by Klassekampen [“Class Struggle” — a Norwegian communist newspaper].

Klassekampen has used the internet analysis tool Alexa to examine eight Islam hostile websites including Gates of Vienna, Jihad Watch, The Brussels Journal, Islam Watch and Atlas Shrugged [sic].

According to data that Klassekampen has looked at the age group of the visitors to these sites range from 65 years and above. Men are clearly over-represented and most of them don’t have an education beyond primary school. Few have children, and those who visit these sites do so from their own homes and not from work or school.

The data correspond well with membership groups of various extreme right-wing parties in Europe, the journalist and author of “The hatred against Muslims” Andreas Malm says.

“There is an overwhelming majority of older men, often unemployed who may feel ostracized from society and who are looking for explanations and scapegoats,” he says.

“The archetypal conspiracy theorist is an elderly lonely man who becomes obsessed with a particular question and who may be drawn towards Islam-hostile conspiracy theories,” Malm says.

He is supported by editor of the periodical Vepsen, Tor Bach. This group of elderly people shares some common traits, he says.

“They are characterized by a strong distrust of society and democratic principles. They also sincerely believe that someone is out to harm them,” Bach says. He doesn’t wish to generalize too much, but he basically believes that this group consists of angry and frustrated individuals who feel marginalized when their views are ignored.

After we finished ROFLOAO, the Baron had an intriguing hypothesis — and it certainly has as much basis in reality as this “news” “report” does. He suggests: Could it be that testosterone poisoning accounts for the behavior of those who are drawn to Islamophobic websites such as this one?

Ah, memories! Back in the days when I worked with battered women, a few of the staff referred to men in general as suffering from this overload of male hormones. I remember one incident in which I finally protested the continuing absurdity. Most of the time I let it pass, since you can’t argue an ideologue out of a belief she needs in order to maintain her world-view. However, the rant was particularly tiresome that day and I protested on the behalf of all the good men I knew. In response, I was told I didn’t really like men. When I gaped at that one, I was told my hatred of men was unconscious, thus my ignorance.

Glory be…how do you answer one of those double binds the Left uses to batter those whose views don’t align with their Magic Pony thinking? For me, a rowdy Irish woman who likes blonde jokes, this contention was a gob-smacker. So after work that day I asked the Baron if he thought I hated men. Once he’d stopped laughing, he told me his best guess as to the origin of this slur on my character (i.e., possible projection) and added, “Hey, now that I think of it… when we first met my initial opinion was that you liked men too much.” Heh.

[By the way, the woman who most often used to attack me for my view of men later divorced her husband and married a woman — thus proving the Baron’s thesis about projection.]

Oh, sure. Sounds good to me. About as accurate as anything else I’ve seen coming out of Norway recently.

The Trial of Anders Behring Breivik: Week One

An abbreviated version of the following essay was published by FrontPage Mag.

The Trial of Anders Behring Breivik: Week One
by Fjordman

The first week of the trial against the confessed mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik has been completed in Oslo. The way it has been carried out has intrigued visiting foreign journalists in both positive and negative ways. A representative of the television news channel CNN was impressed that Norwegians take “pride in the fact they are a society who will respect Breivik’s human rights, even when he showed no respect for the lives of others.”

Many are shocked to find out, though, that the maximum penalty one can get in Norway for any crime is 21 years in prison. That’s in total, not per murder, although there are admittedly mechanisms in place for keeping a person locked up indefinitely if he still poses a threat to society.

Breivik in black #2

If Breivik is judged to be sane he will thus get just a few months in a comfortable jail for each of the 77 murders he committed. Is that a sign of a society that values human life, or is it a sign of a society putting the rights of criminals above those of their victims?

Friday April 20th was the worst day so far. That day the terrorist described in horrifying detail and with shocking indifference the dozens of individual murders he committed during his shooting spree on the island of Utøya outside Oslo. Yet he had cried publicly only a couple of days earlier when the court showed his own rather silly and unprofessional propaganda movie.

Breivik emphaticThe political commentator John Olav Egeland said that Geir Lippestad and the other defense lawyers worked hard in court to make Breivik appear as rational as possible. The purpose of this was to have him declared sane, as well as “to spread the responsibility for the actions Breivik has done.”

I finished reading his manifesto a week before the trial began. I was struck by how much he has quoted the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia, and how little focus on this has been appeared in the mass media — as opposed to the fact that he cites some Islam-critical writers.

Calling Breivik “the Wikipedia terrorist” is perhaps an exaggeration, but he certainly uses this source very extensively, from discussing weapons and body armor, to the nuclear reactors he fantasizes about blowing up. He admitted during the trial that the English language version of Wikipedia has been his main source of education. It has probably shaped his strange and imprecise political vocabulary, too. For example, he employs the term “national anarchists,” which is not commonly used in major publications.

Breivik in his long statement in court, Breivik quoted in a slightly modified version the American President John F. Kennedy: “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” This was also highlighted in his 1518 page so-called manifesto, in which he quoted another former US President, Thomas Jefferson, that “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” These quotes are more militant than anything ever written by Robert Spencer, Bat Ye’or, Andrew Bostom, Melanie Phillips, or myself.

On page 1120, ABB cites the American Declaration of Independence from 1776 in favor of his views. This document was written primarily by Thomas Jefferson. He mentions the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, the right to bear arms, and thereafter refers to Mahatma Gandhi and the quote “Disobedience of the law of an evil state is therefore a duty.”

The Western mass media have widely portrayed those quoted in Breivik’s manifesto — against their will — as dangerous right-wing extremists. Do these alarming extremists include Thomas Jefferson and Gandhi?

On page 1164 Breivik quotes the Marxist leader Fidel Castro, who ruled Cuba for half a century, as stating that “I began the revolution with 82 men. If I had to do it again, I would do it with 10 or 15 individuals with absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and a plan of action.” Mr. Castro represents a totalitarian ideology, and although he is revolutionary Socialist, he has not been blamed for inspiring Breivik.

Much has been written about Breivik’s alleged ties to the English Defence League. The truth is that the EDL are quite marginal in Breivik’s manifesto. In the single longest mention he makes of them, on page 1436, he specifically denounces them as being a bunch of useless, non-violent sissies. He has repeated this view in court, but many notoriously dishonest journalists couldn’t care less about the facts and keep repeating these false allegations.

On page 1111, the author in his manifesto stresses the importance of finding “a nationalistic oriented (patriotic) lawyer,” not a person representing the ruling regime. If so, why did Breivik himself choose defense lawyer Geir Lippestad, who is an active member of the ruling Labor Party and was initially reluctant to take the case?

On page 1263 he writes that “Currently, 99,9% of individuals involved in the European resistance movements have never done anything illegal and will and should continue to operate within the law.” So how does he expect to win sympathy from these people, which he hopes he will get, by committing such hideous atrocities?

In a striking number of cases Breivik doesn’t make logical sense even when read on his own terms. In general, he comes off as logically incoherent, exceptionally self-centered and seemingly devoid of any conscience.

Anders Behring Breivik repeatedly stresses that he is against “racism,” yet later in the manifesto he suddenly decides that race does matter after all. This is just one of the many and sometimes large logical inconsistencies to be found throughout this puzzling text. His writings must therefore be taken with a grain of salt. Breivik is an uneducated poseur with a God complex, not a serious or complex thinker, and he should be treated accordingly.

Jan Oskar Engene, an Associate Professor in Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen specializing in terrorism, cautions against attempts made by commentators to reconstruct an elaborate ideology behind the terrorist’s acts. It’s not evident that Breivik the high-school dropout espouses any coherent political ideology.

Breivik is the anti-Nazi who admires neo-Nazis, the anti-Marxist who admires Marxist revolutionaries, the anti-Islamist who openly admires and emulates Islamic Jihadist terrorists, the non-religious person who thinks he will be canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church for murdering unarmed teenagers, a “perfect knight” who calls his sister a slut, and a modest man who believes that his candy-eating habits are of geopolitical importance.

Breivik is consistently inconsistent, or very nearly so. He contradicts himself so frequently that it’s hard to keep track of his basic ideas, if he has any at all apart from glorifying his own person through murder. One of the few ideas he is consistent about is that he admires the mentality and methods of Islamic Jihadist terrorists, from potential suicide attacks to their propaganda and the idea of posting videos of beheadings on the Internet.

ABB has stressed multiple times in very clear words that he wants to emulate the Islamic terror network al-Qaida, which he sees as a successful revolutionary organization and a blueprint for a similar, European version. On page 1367, the manifesto cites Mohammed that “War is deceit.” He discusses the practice of taqiyya (sacred lying) and notes that Muslims are “masters of deception.”

Breivik admires these Islamic traits, as well as the Marxist talent for organization. He drew on methods similar to the taqiyya practices of lies and dissimulation employed by Jihadist terrorists such as Mohammed Atta in order to remain undetected while planning his terror attacks.

He has learned a great deal from Muslims on how to stage deadly attacks in order to attract media attention. Breivik doesn’t hide this inspiration, either. On pages 1074-1075 of his manifesto/compendium, he explicitly writes about “Learning from the Muslims,” especially when it comes to “martyrs” and the treatment of these.

This connection is not at all marginal but has been repeatedly emphasized by Breivik himself, in his manifesto as well as during police interrogation and talks with psychiatrists. Muslim Holy Warriors and so-called martyrs derive their inspiration from the Koran, the hadith and other Islamic texts describing the Sunna or personal example of Mohammed and his early companions. Given that Breivik betrays great admiration for Muslim militants, and partly models himself after their behavior, this implies that one of his most important indirect inspirations is actually the Koran and other Islamic texts. Yet few mainstream journalists have highlighted this connection.

Breivik at the microphone

Anders Behring Breivik stated in court during the second day of the trial that it was important for the conflict in the long run to provoke a “witch-hunt” now. Mette Yvonne Larsen, one of the lawyers representing survivors and victim’s families, asked Breivik directly about who had inspired him for the terror attacks of 22/7. He replied that he had learned his methodology from al-Qaida and had drawn ideological inspiration from “all authors who support the use of violence.” He repeated that he wanted to provoke a witch-hunt against moderate conservatives in order to increase repression, polarization and radicalization. He considers this strategy to have proven very successful, in light of how many conservatives and Islam-critics have been treated afterwards.

Lawyer Frode Elgesem then introduced me (Fjordman) as a possible source of inspiration. Breivik replied that he is very different from people like me, and that “it’s ridiculous to conduct a witch-hunt against a moderate, non-violent democrat such as Fjordman who doesn’t even support violence.” It didn’t seem to strike him as odd that just a few minutes earlier he himself stated that he committed his atrocities specifically with the intention of having the political establishment and mass media initiate a witch-hunt against moderate, non-violent democrats.

In response to this, the outspoken Australian newspaper columnist, radio commentator and television host Andrew Bolt labeled certain members of the Western press “Breivik’s useful idiots,” since they have been conducting the very witch-hunt against conservatives that he wanted to trigger: “What does it say of those who exploited Breivik’s crime to pursue an ideological vendetta that they have followed precisely the script of a lunatic?”

Daniel Pipes is an American author and political commentator, the founder of the Middle East Forum and editor of its Middle East Quarterly journal, the son of Polish Jewish refugees with a PhD from Harvard University. Pipes published some very insightful comments just five days after the terror attacks where he noted that the damage Breivik did to the Counterjihad may well have been purposeful:

Daniel Pipes noted: “Beyond massacring innocent Norwegians, Behring Breivik damaged conservatism, the counterjihad, and (in particular) those authors he cited in his writings, including myself. A close reading of his manifesto suggests this may have been purposeful,” to undermine peaceful alternatives. Pipes concluded that “Breivik hopes to undermine anyone he perceives as obstructing his dreamed-for revolution. Temporarily, at least, he has succeeded.”

Breivik, in a highly revealing quote on page 1399 of his manifesto, mentions that he had some limited low-level participation in the right-wing Progress Party (FrP) in Oslo. He correctly anticipated that this would be used to discredit the party after his attacks and derived great satisfaction from this thought. He may be at least partially insane, but there is clearly a cold, cynical and manipulating aspect to him, too. Given the fact that he drags even his family and closest friends through the mud by implicating them by name, there is a strong possibility that Breivik deliberately wanted to hurt all those who were mentioned in his manifesto, one way or the other.

Circus Breivik

The historian Obernt Oftestad stated in an interview that the grief after Breivik’s atrocities has been cynically exploited by Multiculturalists and left-wing ideologues to shame and harass their critics into submission. In his opinion, this betrays a dangerous totalitarian mentality. In a lecture given before his retirement in February 2012, Oftestad warned that after July 22, a “witch-hunt” was undertaken against those who had voiced well-founded criticism of the official integration policies and/or Islam. This is meant metaphorically. Critics were not killed, but the underlying impulses of exorcism against evil thoughts as well as evil people were nonetheless related.

The term “witch-hunt” is harsh, but has also been used by the sociologist and artist Kjetil Rolness, who is hardly a conservative. Even respectable figures such as Per Edgar Kokkvold, the long-time secretary-general of the Norwegian Press Association, has been accused by public figures such as the Socialist writer Dag Herbjørnsrud of contributing to a climate of Islamophobic hate that allegedly created Breivik.

The American author Bruce Bawer has lived in Oslo for more than a decade. As he points out, criticizing Islam is gradually becoming a punishable offense in several European countries. Following Breivik’s rampage, many high-profile Leftist activists and writers stepped forward to claim that critics of Islam shared responsibility for his crimes. In February 2012 he published an essay in the business daily The Wall Street Journal, the largest newspaper in the USA with separate Asian and European versions, where he warned against this trend:

Anthropologist Runar Døving agreed, declaring flatly, in a Sept. 2 interview with the Norwegian weekly Morgenbladet, that criticism of Islam should be censored. Mr. Døving admitted that his view of the public square was ‘authoritarian’ — the expression of certain ideas, he said, should simply not be allowed — and that he was ‘entirely in favor of what many people are now describing as a witch hunt,’ because ‘there needs to be an investigation of what was written before July 22’ so that we can ‘see the connection between words and actions.’ Indeed, a witch hunt is under way in Norway.” In the name of tolerance and social harmony, powerful members of the left-wing intelligentsia are seeking to silence critics by linking them to mass murder. In Bawer’s view, “This campaign has been carried out on a scale, and with an intensity, that is profoundly unsettling.”

It is hard to tell whether or not Breivik is insane. Perhaps one of the reasons why there are two contradictory psychiatric reports — one concluding that he is insane and suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, the other that he is a psychopath with a narcissistic personality disorder who can be held criminally accountable for his actions — is that he straddles the boundaries between irrational madness and the calculated evil displayed in his attacks.

As a traditionalist, I believe in the best aspects of European traditions, including that of personal responsibility. The responsibility for his terror attacks lies squarely with Breivik, and with Breivik alone. The triggers can be found in his psyche, his narcissism, and his total disregard for other human beings. These form a toxic combination within a delusional thought universe where he is a “perfect knight” and a leader of an imaginary pan-European terror network.

It is nevertheless true that a mentally unbalanced person living in a fantasy world may be affected by events in the real world. The repressed frustration caused by aggressive Islamic inroads and the largest migration waves in human history can feed an already existing paranoia in certain individuals. The brutality of Islamic terror groups can trigger a desire to emulate in a man who lacks empathy and has a morbid fascination with violence.

Western governments have for decades promoted open-border policies of mass immigration. They have aggressively sought to marginalize, harass or silence those who questioned the wisdom of such policies. As a result, millions of people throughout the Western world today feel like aliens in their own cities, and disenfranchised by a dysfunctional political system that they no longer believe takes care of their long-term interests. This growing reservoir of often justified anger was something Breivik’s twisted mind could tap into. The Western political, academic and media elites facilitated the rise of European frustration and resentment that may have contributed to radicalizing Breivik. He’s their Multicultural Frankenstein monster, but after having laid the fertile basis for such currents they washed their hands of the matter and perversely blamed their critics for their own mistakes.

Given the huge challenges facing Western nations due to the unprecedented scale of modern mass migration, it is remarkable how patient most Europeans have been for so long. Millions of them are now trying to organize themselves and make their voices heard within the confines of a democratic system. In this situation it is very unwise for Western leaders to try to suppress those who express their legitimate concerns in non-violent ways.

The Acquittal of Lars Hedegaard

As reported here last Friday, the “hate speech” conviction of the historian and journalist Lars Hedegaard has been overturned by the Danish Supreme Court. Below is an account of the case from Sappho.dk, as translated by the editors.

Free Press Society President acquitted by unanimous Supreme Court

This verdict is not necessarily a victory for free speech, says Lars Hedegaard

By the Editors of Sappho.dk

Lars Hedegaard(COPENHAGEN, 20 April 2012) A panel of seven Supreme Court justices led by Chief Justice Børge Dahl has acquitted Free Press Society President Lars Hedegaard, who stood accused of intentionally denigrating Muslims.

In a press release the Court states that “there has been no basis for convicting him of intentionally disseminating his remarks to a wider audience”. Consequently, the Court can find no grounds for remitting the case for re-trial in Superior Court, which convicted Lars Hedegaard after he had been found not guilty in the lower court.

Hedegaard comments:

“I’m satisfied that the Supreme Court has delivered a verdict in accordance with the evidence given in lower and superior court. The prosecution had this evidence before it decided to press charges so I cannot understand why it went ahead.

“The prosecutor has burdened the courts and the taxpayers needlessly for more than two years.”

The truth still doesn’t count

Lars Hedegaard goes on:

“This judgment is not necessarily a victory for free speech. Article 266b, under which I was charged, remains unchanged. It remains a disgrace to any civilised society and is an open invitation to frivolous trials. Thus, we still have no right to refer to truth if we are indicted under this article.

“There have been several attempts to make 266b conform to normal standards of justice but successive governments and parliamentary majorities have steadfastly refused.

“I am, however, happy that my acquittal means that at least the Supreme Court has set a limit to how deeply the State may penetrate one’s private life. The Supreme Court has clearly upheld the principle that for a statement to be criminal, it must have been made with the intent of public dissemination. We may still talk freely in our own homes.”

Continued struggle against 266b

“My personal reaction to more than two years of fatiguing litigation is to demand written guarantees from people who want to talk to me. With their signatures they must confirm that nothing be passed on without my express approval and without me having had a chance to vet it. This goes whether people are journalists or not.

“I would advise everybody to do the same for we all know that the prosecutor lies in wait.

The Free Press Society will strengthen its struggle against the penal code’s despicable article 266b.”

Presented by the David Horowitz Freedom Center
A Jamie Glazov Production

We want YOU to join the discussion. “Town Hall on Terror” is the first in a series of Town Hall meetings sponsored by Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and the David Horowitz Freedom Center, to allow your voice to be heard.

In its own words, the Muslim Brotherhood is engaged in a “grand Jihad” with the intention of “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within.” Like it or not, we are in a showdown with evil. But what exactly is the nature of the threat we face and how can we best confront it?

Your host is Jamie Glazov, editor of Frontpagemag.com and author of United in Hate and Showdown with Evil.

The four panelists who will kick off the discussion are:

  • Nonie Darwish, author of the new book The Devil We Don’t Know
  • Mark Tapson, Shillman Journalism Fellow at David Horowitz Freedom Center
  • Bosch Fawstin, creator of the superhero Pigman, the jihadist’s worst nightmare
  • Dwight Schultz, Hollywood actor and expert on Hollywood and media bias

On Being English

Today is the Feast of St. George, and Paul Weston has written an essay at the British Freedom website in honor of the occasion.

Knaresborough seen from the Castle

On Being English
by Paul Weston

Despite the fact that British Freedom believes in our 300 year-old union, I will make an exception allowed by St George’s day to write specifically about England — and I write as a proud Englishman.

I will not bore and depress you with details of the many anti-English forces acting against us. Rather, I will outline just why Cecil Rhodes so memorably stated that ”To be born an Englishman is to win first prize in the lottery of life.”

When the world twice descended into warfare and savagery over the last century, the English were on the right side. We were instrumental in defeating Kaiser Wilhelm’s imperialism and we stood alone when we declared war on Adolf Hitler’s Germany — whilst Adolf himself dreamed only of an Anglo-Germanic empire.

Even in war, we retained our decency. The Quisling left will mock this, of course, but by which side would a surrendering soldier prefer to be taken prisoner? The English, of course. Not for us the inhumanity of the SS, be they German or Lithuanian. Not for us the death camps of the Japanese and not for us the Russian rape of Berlin women. And why not? Because we are English, that’s why not.

After the War, when the left-wing Socialists took up where Hitler left off, so the English again came down on the right side of history. Admittedly we had our own Communists/Socialists (just as we have today, personified by the UAF, Hope Not Hate etc) but not for us the Gulags, the torture, the genocide, the shattered lives, the broken families, the destroyed infrastructure and environment — for us it was still Farmer Giles in the countryside, still the boisterous workingmen’s clubs and still the bowler hats and umbrellas in the city.

And what of Empire? Well, whether one agrees with Empire or not, there can be no argument that after Independence the countries which retained our democratic and judicial systems went on to forge their successful way in the world. Some chose to discard our values and became pestilent hell-holes such as Somalia, some never had the good fortune to be ruled by us and were consequently unable to prosper. What is the difference between hellish Haiti and bountiful Barbados? Simply put, English values.

Whilst on the subject of empire and colonialism, I have a quick question for the liberal/left: Why is it considered racist to colonise other people’s countries, but also racist to resist the colonisation of one’s own country? If this question can be answered without mentioning self-hatred, anti-white/English hatred or treason, I would love to hear your polite and well argued thoughts…

An Englishman was responsible for the abolition of slavery. The zeal of William Wilberforce drove this accomplishment, enforced by the Royal Navy, and although we are still blamed for the evil practice, not enough is said to our schoolchildren about our role in stopping it, nor about the role played by Arabs in their attempts to continue it. How many schoolchildren are aware that Saudi Arabia only signed up to the abolition of slavery in 1973?

The free world owes everything to England. The Anglosphere, the English-speaking nations — consisting of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand — are all rooted in the values of England. They represent freedom, liberty and wealth — attributes not in plentiful supply in much of the world where English values have had little impact.

These English attributes are made manifest in the Third World. The schools, the charities, the infrastructure projects, the doctors and the volunteers — not all English of course, but from the Anglosphere in the main, all driven by a sense of fair play, decency and altruism, and again derived in the main from ancient England.

Football, cricket, tennis, rugby, snooker — invented by the English and taken around the globe. Again, there is no doubt the liberal/left will sneer at this, but with English sport came the underlying ethos of bravery, sacrifice, teamwork, honesty and fair play, all combined to foster the basic ideologies imperative in fully functioning, free and democratic nations.

And what of the modern world? The English built it. The industrial revolution began in England and enabled the Anglosphere to progress from subsistence for the masses to affluence and lifestyles the rest of the world could only dream of. The inventions and the inventors behind so much of what we take for granted today came from us, from the English, from England.

When Prime Minister John Major reflected on his country, he was subjected to ridicule, but what he said resonated with the majority of English people, the main exception being the liberal/leftists whose central role in life appears to be the destruction of all that we hold dear.

What is England? It really is cricket matches on drowsy summer days; football and rugby matches in the pouring rain; drinks and jokes around a blazing fire in an ancient pub; the magnificent architecture in our cities; Richmal Crompton’s “William”; the rolling hills of Devon on misty mornings; the ancient churches in the smallest of picturesque villages; the orderly queues; the museums; the love of animals; P G Wodehouse; thatched cottages; the gentle calm of the people; the green fields of England viewed from the aeroplane after a holiday in sunnier climes; the cheerfulness and stiff upper lip; ancient hedgerows; stoicism; Remembrance Sunday; irony and gentle humour; aristocratic eccentricities; the seasons, torrential autumnal rain and the first real day of summer; ancient Regimental flags in cool and calm churches; the first sea of bluebells and daffodils; the fanfare of royal events; picture perfect fishing villages; our ancient and unbroken history; Magna Carta; Common Law; the Royal Tournament; the bravery and efficiency of our armed forces; the Lancaster, Hurricane, Spitfire flypast; the growl of the Merlin Engine; tea shops in the Cotswolds; dry stone walls; fields filled with cows and sheep; parks and village ponds with ducks and geese; Freedom, Liberty, Order, Manners, Civility, Efficiency, Decency and Morality.

All in all, not bad for a tiny little country which makes up less than 1% of the world’s habitable land mass and contains less than 1% of the world’s population. No other country in the world can claim to have so consistently been on the right side of good and evil. No other country in the world can claim to have built the modern world. No other country in the world has exerted so much influence over all other countries, as has England.

I appreciate that there are exceptions to some of the above, that aspects of which I speak have already passed away at the insistence of “progressive” policies, and that the English and England are not without guilt over some aspects of their history, but today is St George’s day, so please allow me a level of jingoism unfettered.

We, the English, built the modern world in all its inherent decency, freedom, tolerance, morality, fairness, forgiveness and altruism; its richness in art, music, literature, dance, finance, technology, science, philosophy and medicine. But most importantly, to a brutal world with an almost perpetual history of savagery, we brought liberty and freedom, paid for with the blood of our young men who made the ultimate sacrifice for its continuation.

When weighed on the scales of history, England can only be judged as a very special country. My immediate ancestors fought for England and we cannot allow our present day clutch of traitor class politicians to hand over our bloodily defended freedoms and sovereignty to unelected politicians in Europe, all seeped in the self-same Socialist ideology that has inflicted so much human misery and suffering over the last century.

How dare our liberal rulers disparage our English values and culture, values that allow them to live their lives in peace?

How dare they invite in and appease the political/religious ideology of Islam?

How dare the Muslims display their base ingratitude and pathological temerity when they call upon us, to bend to their barbaric ways?

How dare these followers of a 7th Century desert warrior look at our decency and our tolerance as symptoms of English weakness to be duly exploited at our children’s expense?

We cannot let them. England is too important to be erased from the pages of modern history. The English are too valuable a people to allow this to happen. When I write of England, it may well be through rose-coloured glasses, but to me all of the above is England, it is my England, it is your England, and once again, history beckons us to defend it.

Fjordman: The Norway Killer Trial: Week One

Fjordman

Fjordman’s latest essay has been published at FrontPage Mag. Some excerpts are below:

If Breivik is judged to be sane he will thus get just a few months in a comfortable jail for each of the 77 murders he committed. Is that a sign of a society that values human life, or is it a sign of a society putting the rights of criminals above those of their victims?

On April 20th the terrorist described in horrifying detail and with shocking indifference the dozens of individual murders he committed during his shooting spree on the island of Utøya outside Oslo. Yet he had cried publicly only a couple of days earlier when the court showed his own rather silly and unprofessional propaganda movie.

The political commentator John Olav Egeland said that Geir Lippestad and the other defense lawyers worked hard in court to make Breivik appear as rational as possible. The purpose of this was to have him declared sane, as well as “to spread the responsibility for the actions Breivik has done.”

I finished reading his manifesto a week before the trial began. I was struck by how much he has quoted the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia, and how little focus on this there has been in the mass media — as opposed to the fact that he cites some Islam-critical writers.

In his long statement in court he quoted in a slightly modified version the American President John F. Kennedy: “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” This was also highlighted in his 1,518-page so-called manifesto, in which he quoted another former US President, Thomas Jefferson, that “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” These quotes are more militant than anything ever written by Robert Spencer, Bat Ye’or, Andrew Bostom, Melanie Phillips, or myself.

On page 1,120, ABB cites the American Declaration of Independence from 1776 in favor of his views.

On page 1,164 Breivik quotes the Marxist leader Fidel Castro, who has ruled Cuba for half a century, as stating that “I began the revolution with 82 men. If I had to do it again, I would do it with 10 or 15 individuals with absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and a plan of action.” Mr. Castro represents a totalitarian ideology, and although he is a revolutionary Socialist, he has not been blamed for inspiring Breivik.

The Fall of the Dutch Cabinet

As was reported in tonight’s news feed, the Dutch cabinet has fallen, after Geert Wilders of the PVV declined to support the proposed “austerity” budget. Our Dutch correspondent H. Numan sends his take on these momentous events.

The Fall of the Dutch Cabinet
by H. Numan

As of Saturday the Dutch cabinet has fallen. The official resignation must follow shortly. It is possible, but highly unlikely, that problems will be resolved after all.

Geert WildersAs you know, the Dutch government is a minority government. It can only survive in parliament with support of the opposition. That usually is the PVV (Geert Wilders’ party), but not always. On several occasions the government was able to get a majority with support of the left opposition.

For several weeks the coalition partners were negotiating what budget reductions were going to be implemented. As the budget has to be cut in a major way. That is no news. Each partner — VVD (liberals), CDA (Christian Democrats), and the PVV — have their own items they want to be careful about.

The VVD doesn’t want mortgage interest to be taxed. The CDA doesn’t want cuts in development aid. The PVV doesn’t want too many cuts in social security, and certainly does not want to make our pensioners pay for the comfy retirement of Greek pensioners.

This is what caused Wilders to withdraw his support for this cabinet. He did not agree with almost zero cuts to the development budget, nor with letting old age pensioners pay for the party.

As you can imagine, the media are having a ball right now. Their wet dream has come true: the conservative cabinet (first on since 1908!) has collapsed and — joy of joys — Wilders did it.

Just about every newspaper and TV station reports at great length that Wilders and the PVV cannot be trusted. That the PVV is internally heavily divided and Wilders was forced to cut support, otherwise half his parliamentary team would resign on the spot. And more and more.

Personally, I don’t really worry about it. First of all, several left wing media actually support Wilders. The Volkskrant supported his decision in an editorial, for example. Quite unusual to see support coming from that paper, to say the least.

The latest poll shows almost no loss, only one seat. And another poll amongst PVV voters showed serious support for Wilders’ decision to pull the plug.

That doesn’t say much, of course. But it does give some comforting thoughts that Wilders isn’t the unreliable loony as pictured by the other media.

I think Wilders is currently the most professional politician in the Dutch parliament, with a rare long-term view. Suppose he had agreed with the proposed budget cuts. His proposals would have been mostly ignored, while what he opposes strongly (no budget cuts in development aid) would have been implemented. He’d have looked like a fool, and rightly so.

He is very professional not to plug the plug over the development aid cuts. Or better phrased: no cuts. He plugged the plug because old-age pensioners would have been forced to pay for the Sirtaki party in Athens. That gives him quite a bit of support. As I wrote: even from unexpected circles.

We all have to tighten our belts. Of course. Nobody denies that. But I find it somewhat strange to donate money to worthy causes when you can only do that by putting your grandparents on a starvation budget.

All nice and dandy to give money to Somali pirates or dictators in Africa, or to build schools for the Taliban to burn down — if you have money to spend. But to insist on doing that by starving your grandparents is taking charity somewhat too far for me.

Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/22/2012Two young men in Chicago (one of them a minor) attacked another young man, knocked him down, beat him up, and robbed him. They told police they were angry about the killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida. The two attackers were black, and the victim is white.

In other news, National Front leader Marine Le Pen took 20% of the vote in the first round of the French presidential election. This stunning result will give Ms. Le Pen a “kingmaker” role in the runoff election on May 6, which will be between President Nicolas Sarkozy and the Socialist challenger François Hollande.

A Gift from the Religion of Atrocity

An article in this morning’s Sunday Times about female genital mutilation in the UK has been much discussed today in Britain. Our English correspondent Seneca III presents a summary of the article, and adds his own thoughts on the whole sordid matter.

FGM: 'patient' and knife

100,000 Genitally Mutilated Girl Children in Britain — And More to Come

by Seneca III

The leading article in today’s Sunday Times is a story of more cultural enrichment. Essentially, it reports on an undercover investigation into the extent of female genital mutilation (FGM) in Britain.

And, as ‘thetimesonline.com’ is behind a subscription firewall and cannot be linked, here follows a short review/synopsis with some comments from me connecting the quotations and elaborating in a politically incorrect manner in a couple of places (direct quotations from the ST are in italics).

Forward, a charity that campaigns against FGM, revealed this weekend that 100,000 women in Britain have undergone mutilation. A further 24,000* girls are thought to be at risk of suffering the agonising procedure**.

Such acts which are widespread in parts of Africa*** and the Middle East are illegal in Britain.

* Estimates place the worldwide figure at 140 million — guess where most of them are (apart from those now setting up their occupied territories in Europe and the USA)?

** I will include no details here. It is Sunday, and even after so many years of exposure to the ideological root causes of this atrocity, those years have still have not inured me to the horrors of this and all the other joys of Sharia.

*** The ST did state “Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia”(Whereas they didn’t actually clarify the Ogaden region of Ethiopia that is tribally and culturally Somali Muslim as opposed to the Christian North, or Islamic North Sudan as opposed to the Christian and Animist South. Those areas in fact long conquered and subjugated by The Religion of Peace.)

Despite the scale of the problem, the police have failed to secure a single conviction. This weekend, as campaigners called for crackdown, police were accused of failing to pursue prosecutions for fear of inflaming racial tensions. (My bold)…

…The Metropolitan Police having received 166 complaints of FGM since 2008 but, as with all 43 forces across England and Wales, having secured no convictions. (sic)…

…Waris Dirie, a former model who was mutilated as a child and is now a United Nations Ambassador for the abolition of the practice, said: “If a white girl is abused, the police come and break down the door. If a black girl is mutilated, nobody takes care of her. This is what I call racism.”

(Well, yes, Waris, but ‘self-inflicted reverse racism’ would be a better description as the police wouldn’t be afraid to help you if the race card were not played without fail every time a non-white is arrested on suspicion of a criminal offence — do try to get your head around the [race] incident/hate laws and the Orwellian definition of them as constructed by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO)…

“Any incident, which may or may not constitute a criminal offence, which is perceived by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate.” [is a hate incident]

“Any hate incident, which may or may not constitute a criminal offence, which is perceived by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate.” [is a hate crime]

…and perhaps you will begin to understand why the poor bloody coppers on the ground who have to do the actual dirty work are more than a little reluctant to risk their careers and livelihoods by in any way interfering in even the nastiest cultural habits of non-whites. What you sow is what you reap.)

Inside the newspaper on pages 10 and 11 is a full-length article describing the investigation and which named, with photographs, three of the practitioners of FGM.

Hence hereunder are some of their responses when approached by a female undercover reporter who first paid a £60 consultation fee to a medical practitioner to ask if he could arrange for two girls, aged 10 and 13, to be circumcised. Dr. Ali Mayo-Aways, who runs a private clinic in Birmingham, replied thus:

“Yes, I can help you. I have a doctor that will do [it]. He is here in Birmingham. I will give him a call… I can help you but this one is very dangerous”*

(*For him or the girls, I wonder, but doubtless the former consideration was uppermost in his mind.)

Dear Dr. Ali then gave the reporter the contact details of one Omar Sheikh Mohamed Addow, a Somali-born Dentist! Who, reluctant when first contacted until later he realised that the reporter had been sent by Dr. Mayo-Aways, is reported to have shown the reporter the medical clamps and scissors he would use and said…

“I’ll do it for you, OK , I’ll do it for you…nobody should know [anything about] it — between you me and Allah only.”

The third person exposed by the ST, in Barking, East London was one Mohammed Sahib, a Faith Healer

Mohammed Sahib, wearing flowing robes and a white prayer cap, ushered another (male) undercover reporter into his dimly lit bedroom and when offered the same two children under the guise of the reporter pretending to speak on behalf of a Ghanaian couple and replied…

“I can do it here” confirming that he would… (sordid sexual details redacted by me)…“this is my work. I know what I am doing. I’m going to do it. I will tell you how [much] to pay [for one]: £750.”

Obviously the actual article went on in far greater detail and depth than can be commented upon in this short review. Furthermore I have chosen to spare GoV readers the worst of the gory, clinical and inhuman details, but I wish to emphasise that this article and the work that went into it constitute an excellent piece of open journalism, rare these days when the MSM is usually so reticent in detailing the politically incorrect realities that contradict the picture of the Marxist/Islamofascist conquest as is normally peddled by our political and chattering classes.

The Sunday Times is to be commended, although I doubt if they will be happy to be so appreciated by the likes of me as. Getting better though they are, they are not fully healed, not by a long way yet.

However, from my non-blinkered perspective, here, soon, in a street next to all of us, is coming yet another gift from The Religion of Atrocity, Death and Slavery, all to the greater glory of enforced Multiculturalism (not).

I will leave it to the Baron to work out the Mohammed Coefficient, I’m going for a late lunchtime pint.

Useful Idiocy

Breivik the puppeteer

Over the past week or so the trial of Anders Behring Breivik has dominated the Norwegian media, overwhelming almost all other news stories. The rest of Scandinavia has also been caught up in Breivik Fever. This is especially true of Sweden, whose elite masters have taken the opportunity afforded by the Butcher of Utøya to hunt down and eliminate the few “right-wing extremists” who remain in the Land of Pure Socialism.

One of our Swedish correspondents sent a link to the image at the top of this post, which originated with Affes Statistik-blogg. Our correspondent takes note of the accompanying post, “Breivik’s useful idiots in Sweden”:

The image shows Breivik manipulating all the PC/pro-Islam/anti-SD media elite, all willingly dancing as intended.

Affe writes:

“Many parties in the Swedish media have so far acted exactly as Breivik wanted and expected. From his perspective, they help to complete the plan. They are what is called ‘useful idiots’.”

These are the people in the puppet photos: Anders Lindberg, Göran Greider, Kurdo Baksi, Maria Sveland, Åsa Linderborg, Lisa Bjurwald, Anna-Lena Lodenius, Daniel Poohl, Alexander Bengtsson, Annika Hamrud, Johannes Forsberg, and Daniel Swedin.

Our correspondent suggests that Swedish readers should look through the rest of Affe’s blog, which contains excellent statistics, graphs, and more images.

With the help of another Scandinavian correspondent, additional information can be presented from other sources in Sweden.

Thoralf Alfsson, who reposted Affe’s image, had this to say:

One cannot help but think of the old saying “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

In one way or another, all of these people have used the terrible atrocities committed by ABB on July 22 to achieve their own ends. Did they feel ashamed of this? No, not the least; they are in the main part of the politically correct elite who are always enlisted as experts by Sveriges Radio and Sveriges Television and sit on the TV sofas each and every week. Congratulations, Sweden!

Long-time Gates of Vienna readers (and most Scandinavians) are familiar with Expo, the “anti-racist” organization in Sweden that puts the spotlight on anyone suspected of having even the slightest right-wing tendencies. Like Hope Not Hate — its counterpart in the UK — Expo strives to expose and do damage to anyone it deems “fascist” or “racist”, by any and all means necessary.

For those who read Swedish and want to investigate the Expoids more closely, the site Expo Exposed is recommended. An excerpt from its mission statement:

Expo has all the ingredients, through media and media relations, education and propaganda operations, intelligence and research services, and an executive terror organization in the AFA [“anti-fascist”] movement. However, your politically correct acquaintances and friends who dare not question or think critically are also part of the left-fascist Expo business without knowing it.

The purpose of this blog is to provide information on the Expo Foundation, a left-wing extremist organization with roots in the Socialist Party and the militant left-fascist organization AFA, and to highlight Expo’s entire propaganda operation and its links to the militant left-wing extremists, and to explain how a few key people — Expo’s Mikael Ekman, AFA leader and convicted criminal Martin Fredriksson, Mathias Libra and Robert Aschberg — are “spiders in the web” for a large and sophisticated intelligence organization.

Jan Guillou wrote in Aftonbladet on 1-1-1996 that Expo acts as a “classic intelligence agency”, and if anyone knows how intelligence works, he does.

Facts for this blog are taken and compiled from many websites for the sole purpose of collecting undeniable facts about Expo in a single location.

In other words, Expo Exposed is doing to Expo what Expo has been doing for decades to anyone who lies to the right of Lenin on the political spectrum.

More power to them!
