An Egyptian court has blocked the formation of a constitutional assembly that would have been dominated by the Salafists. The ruling was in response to a number of lawsuits challenging the process. The plaintiffs in the suits maintained that the proposed assembly did not adequately represent the whole of Egyptian society. The court suspended the assembly until a special judicial panel can convene and rule on its legality.
In other news, an imam in France has blessed the union of two Muslim homosexuals. He used the same sharia-prescribed forms that are required in marriages between men and women.
