Swedish “Youths” at it Again

This post isn’t officially designated as cultural enrichment news, based as it is on an article from the Swedish MSM. The national media in Sweden are always fastidious about anything that might hint at the non-Swedish ethnicity of violent criminals. However, as the translator notes, the attack occurred in “Gothenburg’s multicultural ghetto Kortedala”.

Many thanks to our Swedish correspondent Freedom Fighter for the translation from Expressen:

Gang nearly kills 61-year-old, who is in a coma — six arrested

The 61-year-old man was nearly beaten to death by a gang of youths. The possible motive may have been that he rebuked the boys after they teased his dog.

Seven boys were brought in for questioning on Wednesday. Six of them have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

It was last Sunday that the 61-year-old man walked to Kortedala square with his dog to shop. The man believed that the gang may have irritated his dog when he was inside the store. When he asked what they had done, seven or eight people attacked him and showered him with punches and kicks.

On Wednesday the man was still being cared for in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“He is in a coma and has very, very severe brain damage,” says Bertil Claesson, head of the police team from the Northeast.

It is currently unclear whether the man will survive.

Seven for questioning

Two young men had previously been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the brutal assault but were later released. On Wednesday, however, seven other boys were picked up for questioning. All are in their early teenage years, 15-16 year olds. …

Six of them were arrested later.

What is the criminal charge?

“Attempted murder,” said prosecutor Carl-Henrik Andersson after three of the boys had been arrested.

How do they feel about the accusations?

“That I will not comment on, but they do not understand it exactly.”

Want more tips

Police believe they have a good picture of what happened, but plead for more tips.

“We are always grateful for more eyewitness accounts. If anyone has observed anything, we will be very happy if people contact us,” says Bertil Claesson.

Freedom Fighter adds his summary of the latest news from Malmö:

Yesterday the Swedish “Agenda” TV program (an investigative program) interviewed Mayor Ilmar Reepalu in Malmö about gangs and other problems in the city. During the program, in the interview on the streets of Malmö, the Mayor and the journalist were threatened by gangbangers, who demanded to know who they were and what they were doing there.

It was obvious from the gangbangers’ accents that they were Arabic-speaking immigrants, young men in a flash car, very threatening. This was amazing, especially after eight shootings in a year in the town. The police do nothing.

In the program an immigrant from Iraq said that Malmö was as dangerous as Baghdad. No one is in control, he said. He didn’t feel safe.

On Monday the Social Democrats’ party leadership is to meet with the leaders of the Swedish Jewish community about Reepalu’s hateful statements about Jews in Malmö. This is very unusual, as Sweden’s Jewish community usually keeps a very low profile, but this time they have publicly attacked Reepalu’s anti-Jewish statements and demanded that his political party, the Social Democrats, take action against the Mayor.

“Islam Endangers Britain”

Ummah Jack

Ed West is a British columnist who writes regularly for The Telegraph. He is no progressive, and has always seemed sympathetic to our — i.e. the “Islamophobic” — viewpoint.

Thus it came as a surprise to many readers last week when Mr. West wrote a column admonishing people not to blame Islam for the murders in Toulouse. Despite the adverse reactions to his position — including an acerbic riposte from Mark Steyn — the columnist has not backed down from his position to any meaningful extent. He elaborated on the same theme yesterday in a column entitled “How Islam Became a Scapegoat for the Problems of Immigration”.

Readers are advised to read the whole thing to get the gist of Mr. West’s logic. As is often the case, commenters at the The Telegraph are more adept at deconstructing his arguments than any of the professional writers, Mark Steyn included.

In response to Mr. West’s inclusion of a quote from Christopher Caldwell (“Islam is a magnificent religion that has also been, at times over the centuries, a glorious and generous culture”), one commenter made these excellent remarks:

trinitythegreen (Yesterday 03:52 PM)

There is so much in your blog I would like to take issue with, but I don’t have the time or the space. So let’s just take that Caldwell quote.

It is obligatory to say or quote some praise in any article about Islam and that’s what that quote is here for. It’s like saying ‘OK. Islam has its faults but it is a ‘magnificent religion… etc etc.’

It isn’t. Just because it’s huge it isn’t great. It is violent, intolerant, implacable and unforgiving and it is hell bent on taking over the world. Just because not all Muslims wear suicide vests doesn’t make them ‘moderate’ because there is no such thing as a moderate Muslim.

There are active Muslims and there are acquiescent Muslims but there are no moderate ones because the Koran is a handbook for applied savagery. And don’t give me the nonsense about how the Bible is just as bloodthirsty as the Koran because the Bible is descriptive and the Koran is prescriptive. The Koran commands that the unbelievers be slain ‘where you find them’, that a child’s education entails teaching them to believe Jews are descended from pigs and Monkeys, and all the good stuff in the Koran has been abrogated by the bad. And none of that is ‘out of context’ because the Koran IS the context.

Islam endangers Britain because it is utterly alien, with values that clash with our Christian values, because it teaches Muslims superiority over the rest of us, it is not simply undemocratic, it is ANTI-democratic, and that being the case is it a surprise that they refuse to integrate? The Muslim considers himself a victim, sees himself better than anyone else, and is steeped in self-pity.

There is a huge amount of crime, some of it almost unspeakably wicked, that is perpetrated by the followers of the prophet that wouldn’t be committed if Blair and his pack of thieves hadn’t thrown open the doors to any Muslim, his wives and his children, mainly to ‘rub our right-wing noses in it.’

Islam is no scapegoat. It is the problem. We see Poles and Indians, Czechs and Estonians, even West Indians and Zimbabweans come here and integrate, quickly or slowly, but they TRY, because their baggage is Christian baggage, not some seventh-century death cult.

Gang Rape in Mariannelund

Cultural Enrichment News

We’re all used to culturally enriched horror stories from Sweden, but this one is more horrific than usual. Kitman has gone through the latest material and produced a translated summary. He includes this introduction:

Mariannelund is famous as the hometown of the beloved author of children’s books Astrid Lindgren. It prides itself on its idyllic scenery, known throughout the world from the movies about Emil from Lönneberga. The area also features the largest so-called “Runkesten” in the world — a huge stone which happens to be positioned in such a way that it can be moved back and forth by the simple touch of a hand.

However, the construction of an asylum centre has recently made Mariannelund home to many strangers from backward countries. Suddenly the quiet little town is making much more sinister headlines: robberies, rapes, and attempted murders have been occurring lately in Mariannelund, all somehow related to the population replacement policy of the current regime.

The victim in the case below knew one of the perpetrators and “thought she was going to a party in Vimmerby”. Instead the trip went to the immigration facilities, and here her nightmare began.

Below is his translated summary (Mohammed Coefficient: 25%) from Avpixlat.

WARNING: Sensitive readers may want to skip the rest of this story. It contains clinical details that may be disturbing:

Vimmerby Tidning: Worst crime ever
Gang-rape without parallel in Swedish criminal history

Quote (from image of Vimmerby Tidning headline at Avpixlat):

Gang-rape of mother of two in Mariannelund Asylum Centre “unprecedented in Swedish criminal history”

This story concerns the case of a brutal assault on a mother of two in December 2011, for which eight Afghans are now facing charges. The assault took place in the Mariannelund Asylum Centre and was extended over a seven-hour ordeal. According to the men, the victim was “a bad woman, and a whore.”

The woman went into shock while the rapes were still underway, and has since been in a heavily traumatised state. She is now subject to nightmares and panic attacks, and lives in a psychiatric clinic. She is bound to a wheelchair due to damages to her abdomen, and suffers from faecal incontinence. However, the woman has sufficiently recovered to testify in the trial. She has demanded damages of 1,250,000 Skr.

The extensive gathering of technical evidence, mainly collection of the sperm stains, will be instrumental for the prosecutor Gunnar Brodin. Eight men are facing charges, and there are suspicions that there was a ninth perpetrator. However, this man has not been caught or identified.

During his final remarks the prosecutor spoke of 78 pieces of clothing submitted from nine individuals for examination by the State Forensic Laboratory. A task “beyond the usual” for the forensic lab. Altogether there were 48 sperm stains from the asylum centre apartment. Sixteen of the stains contained DNA from at least four persons, four had DNA from three persons, and fourteen stains contained DNA from at least two individuals. Sperm samples from four individuals were obtained from the victim’s intestines and digestive system.

“This confirms the victim’s testimony,” Gunnar Brodin said in his final remarks.

The prosecution is now ended, after an additional charge, as the prosecutor sought to show how the defendants subjected the mother-of-two to lethal danger by the taping her breathing passages.

The following individuals were facing charges:

  • Rafi Bahaduri, 25 years old
  • Salahedin Hashemi, 20 years old
  • Mohammadi Zia, 20 years old
  • Morteza Afzali, 20 years old
  • Mohammadi Aziz Ahmad, 33 years old
  • Rahmati Hedayat, 20 years old
  • Azim Ahklaghi, 20 years old
  • Rustam Ghafory, 21 years old

According to additional Swedish sources, the main perpetrator Rafi Bahaduri had already committed four other rapes in Sweden. He was recently convicted of the violent abuse and rape of a young girl in 2008. Unfortunately, he “cannot be deported” due to the fact that he came to Sweden in 2002 claiming to be less than fifteen years of age.

Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/28/2012An appeals court in Switzerland has ruled against a Muslim husband and wife who sought to keep their daughters out of mixed-sex swimming classes. The court stated that requiring the girls to attend mixed swimming was not a significant infringement of religious freedom. It upheld the lower court’s 1,400-franc fine against the couple.

In other news, a woman in Afghanistan was murdered by her mother-in-law, with the possible collusion of her husband, for giving birth to a third daughter without having produced a son.

Antisemitism in the Qur’an, Part 3

Several years ago Andrew Bostom published a comprehensive survey of antisemitism as expressed in the Qur’an. The article is unfortunately no longer available online, so the author has kindly sent us the full text.

This is the third of four installments. Previously: Part 1 and Part 2.

Koran, 9th century AD

Antisemitism in the Qur’an: Motifs and Historical Manifestations

Part 3

by Andrew G. Bostom

The Mongol conquest of Baghdad in 1258 under Hulagu Khan (d. 1265) destroyed Muslim suzerainty and the domination of Islam as a state religion, rendering it “…a religion among all others”. [120] Mongol rule thus eliminated the system of dhimmitude, and in contrast to Islamic chauvinism, writes Walter Fischel, [121]

…the principle of tolerance for all faiths, maintained by the Il Khans [Mongol rulers], (depriving) the [Islamic] concept of the “Protected People”, the ahl adh-Dhimma [dhimmi system]…of its former importance; with it fell the extremely varied professional restrictions into which it had expanded, …primarily those regarding the admission of Jews and Christians to government posts.

The 13th century Christian chronicler Bar Hebraeus recorded this telling observation: [122]

With the Mongols there is neither slave nor free man, neither believer nor pagan, neither Christian nor Jew; but they regard all men as belonging to one and the same stock.

And the Iraqi Ghazi b. al-Wasiti (fl. 1292), author of a contemporary Muslim treatise on the dhimmis, noted: [123]

A firman of the Il Khan [Hulagu] had appeared to the effect that everyone should have the right to profane his faith openly and his religious connection; and that the members of one religious body should not oppose those of another

Fischel concludes: [124]

For Christians and Jews, the two groups chiefly affected by the ahl adh-Dhimma policy, current until then, this change in constitutional and religious principles implied a considerable amelioration of their position; whereas for the Muslims it meant they had sunk to a depth hitherto unknown in their history.

The brief rise and calamitous fall of Sa‘d ad-Daula — which mirrored the experience of his Jewish co-religionists — took place during this Mongol epoch. Sa‘d ad-Daula was a Jewish physician, who successfully reformed the Mongol revenue and taxation system for Iraq. In recognition of these services, he was appointed by the Mongol emperor Arghun (who reigned from 1284-1291) to the position of administrative Vizier (in 1289) over Arghun’s Empire. According to Bar Hebraeus, [125]

The king of kings [Arghun] ordered that Sa’d ad-Daula, the Jew, hitherto the Governor of Baghdad, should be appointed Chief of the administrative officials throughout all provinces of the Empire.

Despite being a successful and responsible administrator (which even the Muslim sources confirm [126]), the appointment of a Jew as the Vizier of a heathen ruler over a predominantly Muslim region, aroused the wrath, predictably, of the Muslim masses. This reaction was expressed through and exacerbated by “…all kinds of [Muslim] diatribes, satirical poems, and libels”. [127] Ibn al-Fuwati (d. 1323), a contemporary Muslim historian from Baghdad, recorded this particularly revealing example which emphasized traditional anti-Jewish motifs from the Qur’an: [128]

In the year 689/1291 a document was prepared which contained libels against Sa’d ad-Daula, together with verses from the Qur’an and the history of the prophets, that stated the Jews to be a people whom Allah hath debased…

Another contemporary Muslim source, the chronicler and poet Wassaf, [129] according to Fischel, “…empties the vials of hatred on the Jew Sa‘d ad-Daula and brings the most implausible accusations against him”. [130] These accusations included the claims that Sa‘d had advised Arghun to cut down trees in Baghdad (dating from the days of the conquered Muslim Abbasid dynasty), and build a fleet to attack Mecca and convert the cuboidal Ka‘ba (i.e., the holiest place and structure in Islam) to a heathen temple. [131] Wassaf’s account also quotes satirical verses to demonstrate the extent of public dissatisfaction with what he terms “Jewish Domination”, adding to the existing line, “Turn Jews, for heaven itself hath turned a Jew”, his own, [132]

Yet wait and ye shall hear their torments cry And see them fall and perish presently

When Arghun took ill, influential Mongol dukes inimical to Sa‘d ad-Daula for purely political reasons, shifted the “blame” for Arghun’s terminal illness to the Jewish physician-Vizier. Sa‘d and his supporters were arrested and a large number of them executed (1291). [133] Sa‘d ad-Daula’s murder precipitated a broad attack on Jewry throughout the Il-Khan Empire, beginning in the Baghdad Jewish ghetto, where according to the Bar Hebraeus and Wassaf, despite Jewish resistance,

…when the report of the murder of the Jew was heard, the Arabs armed themselves and went to the quarter of the Jews, because the Jews were all living together in quarter [134]…in Baghdad more than a hundred of the noble and wealthy Jews were slain, and their property plundered [135]

Wassaf and Ibn al-Fuwati further reveal that such attacks spread well beyond Baghdad: [136]

Throughout the lands of Islam, the Jewish people were oppressed and their goods plundered…there was no town left in Iraq in which the Jews were not served with that which had happened to them in Baghdad, until a part of them embraced Islam, although they later turned back again.

Bar Hebraeus was moved to depict the calamity for the Jews in these poignant words: [137]

The trials and wrath which were stirred up against the Jews at this time neither tongue can utter nor the pen write down.

Walter Fischel concludes [138] that “a tremendous wave of suffering and persecution must have overwhelmed the entire Jewry of Iraq and Persia”, while noting “The Muslims, however, gave expression to their joy at the end of Jewish domination in many verses filled with enmity against the Jews”. One such celebratory verse by the poet Zaynu’d-Din Ali b. Sa’id reiterated antisemitic Qur’anic motifs of the Jews as “wretched dupes of error and despair”, “foulest race”, “hatefulest”, dispatched to “hell” in “molten torments”, doomed “without reprieve”, and leaving behind “How many did they leave!” — gardens and fountains (Qur’an 44:25): [139]

Throughout the lands they’re shamed and desolate. God hath dispersed their dominant accord, And they are melted by the burnished sword.

Grim captains made them drink Death’s cup of ill,
Until their skulls the blood-bathed streets did fill,
And from their dwellings seized the wealth they’d gained,
And their well-guarded women’s rooms profaned.
O wretched dupes of error and despair,
At length the trap hath caught you in its snare!

O foulest race who e’er on earth did thrive
And hatefulest of those who still survive

God sped the soul of him who was their chief
To hell, whose mirk [murk] is despair and grief.
In molten torments they were prisoned,
In trailing chains they to their doom were led.
Take warning from this doom without reprieve;
Recite the verse [44:25] [140]: “How many did they leave!”

The Jewish vizier in Fez, Morocco from 1464-1465, Haroun ben Battas, and his co-religionist community, became victims of the same stereotyped anti-dhimmi and anti-Jewish Muslim prejudices [141] displayed earlier in Granada (1066) and Baghdad (1290/91). A contemporary travelogue by the Egyptian author and merchant, ‘Abd el-Basit, who was studying in Tlemcen at the time, gives the following account of the rationale for Haroun’s appointment to vizier by Sultan ‘Abd el-Haq ben Abu Said: [142]

‘Abd el-Haq kept him [the Jew, Haroun] very close to him, and made him his confidant, until the whole kingdom was given into his hand. He trusted him because he thought it impossible that the Jew (as a non-Muslim) would exceed his authority, as ‘Abd el-Haq understood it.

‘Abd el-Basit’s narrative maintains that Haroun used his position to enhance the fortunes of the Jewish elites (“In his days the Jews of Fez and its districts became great; they were influential and important…”), and in additional clear violations of the dhimma, rode a mount (“In the presence of his master, he rode horses marked with the vizerial seal”), and carried a sword with a Qur’anic inscription (“And that Jew wore a sword on an iron belt engraved with the verse al-kursi [2:255]”) [143]

Haroun’s tragic fate, and that of the Jewish community of Fez, were sealed by the following course of events. The preacher of Fez’s main mosque (the Kairouanian mosque), Sayyidi Abu ‘Abdallah Muhammad, was already well-known for his anti-Jewish diatribes. Upon learning of Haroun’s comportment, and the alleged insult of a Sharif [tribal protector] [144] by one of Haroun’s deputies, he incited the local Muslim population with cries of “Jihad” [Holy War], as described by ‘Abd el-Basit: [145]

He and the Muslims were greatly vexed because of the Jews, their influence and their control over the Muslims. In his sermon on Friday at the Great Jami of Fez, named Jamic al-Qarawiyyin, he always preached about the Jews and also dared to incite the people: perhaps they would rise up because of this for Allah’s sake and revolt. And the matter became known, and he became famous because of this. And when the insult to the sharifa occurred, he dedicated his soul to Allah, left his house and loudly proclaimed in the streets and alleys of Fez: He who will not go forth for the sake of Allah has no muruwwa [Bedouin chivalry] and no religion! And he went on to shout: Jihad, Jihad! He also ordered others to issue this call in the streets of Fez, and the people heard it, and presently revolted with him. They were joined by the great multitude from “all the low places” [Qur’an 22: 27] in Fez…

The aroused Muslim throng sought religious sanction from one of Fez’s most esteemed Sharifs. However, he refused to support their rebellion without receiving a (consensus) fatwa from the ‘Ulema (clerical authorities), since the Sultan was directly implicated. In their appeal to the esteemed chief mufti of Fez, Abu ‘Abd Allah Muhammad al-Qauri, the Muslims, led by Sayyidi Abu ‘Abdallah Muhammad, argued that the Jews had violated the dhimma. The chief mufti claimed he could not support their revolt because he was fearful of the Sultan and his coterie. But the inflamed crowd ultimately compelled the chief mufti to countenance their actions after threatening the mufti’s reputation, and his very life. Under duress, the chief mufti issued a fatwa making it licit to attack the Jews, and revolt against the Sultan. Thereupon, the Muslim rabble attacked the Jewish quarter in Fez, slaughtering its inhabitants. ‘Abd el-Basit’s account describes these events approvingly: [146]

…they [the Muslim rabble] took him [Sayyidi Abu ‘Abdallah Muhammad] and began to stream to the house of the sheriff Muhmammad ibn ‘Imran, who was mazwar (in charge) of the shurafa in Fez…But he, in spite of his status, personal authority and great energy, when the preacher [Sayyidi Abu ‘Abdallah Muhammad] came in to him and tried to stir him up (against the Jews), did not respond, contending that it was improper for him to revolt while there were theologians in Fez who had not yet been asked for an opinion in the matter. They (the crowd) hastened to the theologians and assembled them, including the greatest of them at that time, the scholar and mufti…Abu ‘Abd Allah Muhammad al-Qauri. He and the other assembled persons were brought to the house of the sayyid the sherif. The preacher [Sayyidi Abu ‘Abdallah Muhammad] hastened to say to them: “Go forth with us to the Jihad; fight for the renewal of Islam!” The crowd repeated his words and said: “If you will not fight together with us, you will be the first whom we shall fight; for you, shurafa and theologians, are content to be ruled by Jews.” Then they shouted again: “Jihad, Jihad!”, meaning to incite them nearby. They demanded of al-Qauri that he give a theological opinion, but he refused to do so, claiming that he was afraid of the authorities. They continued to prod him, after preparing a written question on the incident and on what that Jew [Haroun] and the Jews had done, saying that it constituted a violation of the Covenant [dhimma], and even more than that. They drew their swords and called out to al-Qauri: “We, too, have authority and power. We have risen up for Allah’s sake and pledged our lives. This is the question which we ask you to answer according to the law of Allah, blessed be he. If you will not do so, we shall let the world do without you, for you are a theologian who does not act in conformity with his theology”. They added other things in the same vein. And they gave him no rest until he wrote with his own hand a permit to kill the Jews, and another permit to revolt…even against the sultan. When he had finished writing, they hastened to the hara (the Jewish quarter) and wielded their swords against the Jews, killing as many of them as Allah wanted them to kill; they did not omit even one until they killed the last, so as to clear the quarter of them. This was a glorious day in Fez and a great slaughter. A numerous Jewish community was killed on that day. Afterwards they [the Muslim rabble] turned to the palace of the government, devastated it and killed the Jew who was in it, namely the deputy of the vizier.

Shortly afterwards, the same fate was suffered by Haroun and the Sultan. And in turn, the Jews of smaller communities outside Fez were also massacred, as noted again with satisfaction, by ‘Abd el-Basit: [147]

Thereafter the people of the cities distant from Fez learnt of these events. They rose up against the Jews of the cities and did to them what the people of Fez had done to their Jews. The Jews were thus befallen by a calamity the like of which had never occurred before [148]; as many of them as Allah — blessed be he — decreed were killed.

The Hebrew chronicles Kisseh ha-Melakhim [149] and Yahas Fes (“Only twenty heads of family and a small number of women and children escaped death.” [150]) confirm that few Jews survived this Muslim jihad in Fez. Jane Gerber’s discussion of the 1465 Fez pogrom concludes with an understated assessment: [151]

…the rise to prominence of a Jewish vizir or emissary should not [emphasis in original] be construed as evidence of Jewish security or acceptance in a given historical period. As Haroun’s demise so dramatically illustrates, the rise of a Jew to an important governmental post was symptomatic of the complete alienation of the Marinids [ruling Moroccan Muslim dynasty] from their subjects rather than of Jewish acceptance on the basis of equality.

Within a quarter century (~ 1490), anti-Jewish agitation by one of the most prominent Sheikhs of the era, al-Maghili (d. 1504/5), precipitated the wholesale slaughter of Jews in the southern Moroccan oasis of Touat. [152] Al-Maghili’s determination of the Jews’ status was summarized concisely by his 16th century biographer, Ibn ‘Askar (d. 1578): [153]

He held the view that the Jews — may God curse them — had no bond [of protection (dhimma)], since they had broken it by their association with men of authority among the Muslims, [an action] which went contrary to the humiliation and abasement (al-dhull wa’l-saghar) stipulated in the payment of jizya, and that the breaking of this pact by some of them redounded upon all of them. He declared it licit to spill their blood, and plunder their property and announced that dealing with them was more important than dealing with any other [category] of unbelievers. [154]

Al-Maghili’s own writings emphasized that the Jews of Touat made their tribute payments irregularly, and in varying amounts. He argued that such payments were tantamount to bribery and not valid jizya remitted annually during a deliberately humiliating public ceremony. [155] Al-Maghili further insisted that the Jews had no right to maintain their synagogue in (neighboring) Tamantit (i.e., where the Jews of Touat’s synagogue was located). He claimed the synagogue was constructed illegally on Muslim land, and its continued existence violated the Qur’anic principle of the Jews’ deserving abasement and humiliation. [156]

Hunwick has provided a succinct elucidation of al-Maghili’s legal arguments. He also acknowledges that al-Maghili’s treatise on the dhimmis (i.e., Jews) read like an “inflammatory sermon”. And when al-Maghili preached these views to the Muslims masses, he fomented violence against the Jews: [157]

Any Muslim who befriended a Jew or came to his defense, or opposed the destruction of the synagogue was to be considered an unbeliever. Dhimmis must be kept in a permanent state of abasement (saghar). This why jizya must be paid in a public ceremony in which the dhimmi at the moment of payment is given a tap on the neck and pushed forward to show him he has thus escaped the sword. This abasement is more important than the sum paid. No religious edifice may be erected by a dhimmi in the land of Islam and if any governor gave permission for one, this permission must be revoked and the building torn down. This is because the manifestation of the dhimmi’s religion in the form of a building is a contradiction of the concept of abasement. The same argument applies to the association of dhimmis with sultans, viziers, judges and other persons in authority. This is a “flouting of the laws of Islam”, since it is a negation of the abasement which is stipulated for the continued dwelling of a dhimmi in the lands of Islam. The situation he is condemning here is not only that which he would claim was current in Touat, but also by implication that which obtained in Fez, Tlemcen, and other North African cities.

The bulk of the populace, poor and ignorant, could be aroused to violence against the Jewish community by making these “outsiders” the scapegoat for all their ills. It only needed a preacher who could appeal to the masses by an appeal for the defense of “religion” to spark off a wave of looting and killing. Al-Maghili, by his preaching, his polemical prose and his verse diatribes was just such a catalyst.

Al-Maghili recounted stridently antisemitic “vignettes” portraying Jewish malevolence such as these anecdotes about Jewesses preparing bread for Muslim consumption: [158]

A person told me that he saw a Jewess mixing bread flour for a Muslim. He observed that she was picking her nose with her hand and continuing to mix the flour without washing her hand. A second person also told me that he saw another Jewess mixing bread flour for a Muslim. He saw her picking lice from her head and killing them with her nails and continuing mixing the flour without washing her hands. There are many stories of this nature. None can suspect the credibility of [stories such as] these and worse than these, except one who is blind to reality. Do you not see what Allah the Most High has said?

But al-Maghili’s anti-Jewish views are perhaps best encapsulated in a verse diatribe he composed: [158a]

Love of the Prophet requires hatred of the Jews. Regret what has passed and do not do it again. The one who is intimate with the enemies of the Prophet [i.e., the Jews], when he goes to the grave and on the day of Resurrection will be directed to the burning fire. Who will there be to rescue him when the Fire approaches the face with which he pleased the Jews?

He added, [158b]

They [the Jews] are indeed the most hostile people against us and against our beloved Prophet… they criticize our religion, mock our prayers and insult our master and savior Muhammad

Gwarzo observes: [159]

He [al-Maghili] was not so much concerned about the Jews, who although numerous, were still a minority. They would be at his mercy as long as he had the support of the public.

He succeeded in showing the masses that the issue was of either loving the Prophet or loving the Jews; Muslims must choose one of the two — they should choose between going to Paradise or going to Hell. The choice of the masses was obvious — they must certainly love the Prophet rather than the Jews; they would certainly prefer Paradise to Hell. His following became great and he succeeded in creating ferment in the territories.

Mobilizing this popular support, al-Maghili led a pogrom during which the Jews of Touat were massacred, and their synagogue in neighboring Tamantit destroyed. It was indeed, “…a short step from considering the Jews ‘enemies of the Prophet’ to considering them enemies of the umma [Muslim community] at large…” [159a]

The 20th century flowering of the Zionist movement and subsequent creation of Israel — a sovereign state administered by Jews liberated from the system of dhimmitude, adjacent to the very cradle of Arab Islam — has been accompanied, not surprisingly, by an outpouring of traditional Islamic antisemitism. Raphael Israeli observes that this “unbearable challenge” to the sacralized Islamic order has created a “vicious circle” of Islamic antisemitism and anti-Zionism. [160]

The ingathering of the Jews into modern Israel constitutes from this traditional Muslim viewpoint, which is still upheld by Muslim scholars of the Holy Law, and probably by many of their Muslim constituencies, an unbearable challenge to the authority of the Muslim faith

Jews were debased and humiliated in the first place; Zionism is marked by the derogatory traits that are characteristic of Jews; and in turn Zionism and Israel further debase the Jews by their inherent inhuman attitudes. Israeli politics, society and culture are all imbued with the evils that the Jews have transmitted from one generation to another…so the vicious cycle is complete

Even the pejorative image of “violent” Jews as the “new Mongols” — coined in the early 1980s by a burgeoning Islamic fundamentalist movement [161] — evokes an ironic historical association uncomfortable for Muslims: the fact that the Mongol Emperor Hulagu (as noted earlier [162]) also overturned the system of dhimmitude after his armies captured Baghdad in 1258, destroying the Abbasid Caliphate.

The past five decades — including a period before “The 1967 Shock” and Israel’s “demeaning of the abode of Islam” (Dar al Islam) [163] — have witnessed ceaseless calls by Islamic religious, political, and intellectual leaders — for a forcible return to the permanent state of “wretchedness and humiliation” enjoined for the Jews in Qur’an 2:61, and 3:112. Writing in 1962, Ahmad Yusuf Ahmad warned that despite assistance from Western powers, [164]

…they will not on any account be able to exempt them [the Jews] from the divine injunction and decree that they shall have no rest or permanency or tranquility, they will be chastised with degradation and poverty and be visited by the wrath of God.

Two years later, Abdullah al-Tall further dismissed the Jews’ attempts at self-reliance in the face of Allah’s unavoidable decree. [165]

Despite all their efforts to appear as possessors of power and the capacity to resist, the word of God is supreme and the Qur’an records the views of heaven, the will of the heaven and its verdict.

The Fourth Conference of the Academy of Islamic Research convened in Cairo in the fall of 1968 to discuss the theological significance of the Middle East conflict. Sheikh Hassan Ma’moun, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University, in his inaugural address to the Conference, acknowledged the “bitterness” of the 1967 Arab defeat by Israel, [166]

…was further intensified by the fact that the unexpected event occurred before a roguish Zionism whose adherents had been destined to dispersion by the Deity. [Quoting Qur’an 2:61] “And humiliation and wretchedness were stamped upon them and they were visited with wrath from God”

The lengthiest single Conference paper (all of which were compiled in a 935 page tome [167]), a 158 page analysis by Muhammad El-Sayyed Husein al-Dahabi entitled “Israelite Narratives in Exegesis and Tradition”, invoked a Qur’anic commentary by Tabari, to sanction the Jews permanent abasement: [168]

Then he [Tabari] added, They killed their Prophet. Thereupon, God smote them with humiliation took away kingship from them. Thus, they became the most lowly and degraded amongst nations, having to pay tribute and yielding to the authority of foreign kings. In such a plight will they ever remain

And four years later (April 25, 1972) in a speech celebrating the birthday of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat warned that “…they [the Jews] shall return and be as the Qur’an said of them ‘condemned to humiliation and misery’ ” [169] — a year before Egypt’s surprise attack during Yom Kippur started the 1973 war with Israel.

The “return” being invoked in all these pronouncements is a return to the Islamic Shari’a-based system of dhimmitude for Jews, and a dissolution of the sovereign state of Israel. Although written in the pseudo-secular [170] language of Arab nationalism, the 1968 Palestinian Liberation Organization Charter’s call for Jews to live “…under the aegis of an Arab state in the framework of Arab society” [171], has been termed aptly, “The Palestinian Dhimma”. [172] Indeed, the theological-juridical antecedent of this Palestinian Dhimma dates back to 1920: a formal request by Musa Kazem el-Husseini (then President of the Arab Palestinian Congress) to the British High Commissioner, Herbert Samuels to restore the Shari’a, [173] which had only been fully abrogated two years earlier when Britain ended four centuries of Ottoman Muslim rule of Palestine. Moreover, in recent years, this goal has been reaffirmed openly by official Palestinian Authority clerics. For example, Sheik Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Madhi during a Friday sermon broadcasted live on June 6, 2001 on Palestinian Authority Television from the Sheik ‘Ijlin Mosque in Gaza, stated: [174]

We welcome, as we did in the past, any Jew who wants to live in this land as a Dhimmi, just as the Jews have lived in our countries, as Dhimmis, and have earned appreciation, and some of them have even reached the positions of counselor or minister here and there. We welcome the Jews to live as Dhimmis, but the rule in this land and in all the Muslim countries must be the rule of Allah.

Subsequently, during an interview by Wall Street Journal reporter Karby Legget (published in the December 23, 2005 edition of The Wall Street Journal, p. A1), Hassam El-Masalmeh, who then headed the Hamas contingent at the municipal council of Bethlehem, confirmed his organization’s plan to re-institute the jizya. El-Masalmeh stated:

We in Hamas intend to implement this tax (i.e., the jizya) someday. We say it openly — we welcome everyone to Palestine but only if they agree to live under our rules.

To be continued…

Should dhimmis subsequently build a place of worship after being forbidden to do so, this would constitute an abrogation of the pact [dhimma], making it lawful to enslave their women and children and seize their property.

Another feature of the modern doctrine which fits in with the Muslim past is the emphasis which both of them lay on communal solidarity, discipline and cooperation. The umma in Islam is a solidary entity, and its foremost duty is to answer the call of the jihad. [emphasis added}This brings us to the third feature which both modern and ancient systems have in common, to wit the glorification of one’s own group. The traditional attitude of the Muslims to the outside world is one of superiority, and the distinction between the Dar al-harb, Dar al-Islam, and Dar as-sulh, is an ever present one in the mind of the Muslim jurist. It may therefore be said in conclusion of this modern doctrine of nationalism, that although it introduces into Islam features which may not accord with strict orthodoxy, it is the least incompatible perhaps of modern European doctrines with the political thought and political experience of Sunni Islam. [emphasis added]

Also from Sylvia Haim, Arab Nationalism — An Anthology, Berkeley, California, 1962, pp. 63-64, Haim quotes the founder of the Arab Nationalist Ba’ath Party, Michel Aflaq:

Muhammad was the epitome of all the Arabs, so let all the Arabs today be Muhammad…Islam was an Arab movement and its meaning was the renewal of Arabism and its maturity…[even] Arab Christians will recognize that Islam constitutes for them a national culture in which they must immerse themselves so that they may understand and love it, and so that they may preserve Islam as they would preserve the most precious element in their Arabism.

Haim concludes (p. 164), “ For Aflaq, Islam is [emphasis in original] Arab nationalism…”

You Deserve a Brick Today

In the video below, unidentified fans of Mullah Krekar (see yesterday’s post for more) heave bricks and other debris at Norwegian television journalists.

When Inciting Mass Murder Becomes Mainstream

Just when you think you’ve read the nuttiest thing that could possibly come out of Norway, along comes this one.

Two Norwegian professors — educated folks, mind you; people whose salaries are presumably paid by the state — think it’s perfectly OK to incite terrorism and mass murder.

Our Norwegian correspondent The Observer, who translated the piece below, described it this way:

Have a look at this translated article, and in particular the bolded text. The professor interviewed here actually believes that it should be legal in Norway to encourage someone to kill Jews, just not a particular Jew.

In other words:

Good:   “Let’s kill all the sheenies!”
Bad:   “Let’s kill Moishe!”

It’s also important to remember that Fjordman, whose writings call for an end to mass immigration and the preservation of traditional Norwegian culture, is considered by polite society to be the second most evil person in Norway.

Insanity.

From VG.no:

Incitement to commit terrorism should be legal

Norwegian sociologist, Kristian Skagen Ekeli believes that extreme speech and incitement to commit terrorism are natural aspects of a democracy.

Ekeli is a researcher at the University of Stavanger (UiS). He believes that incitement to commit terrorism should be allowed in a stable democracy like Norway. Such statements should only be banned if there is an imminent threat of terrorism, he tells the campus newspaper, Univers.

Mullah Krekar was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday for having threatened to kill Norwegian citizens, among them former Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik. Some of the threats were made last weekend. Ekeli fails to see the problem with this in a democracy such as Norway.

“A ban won’t prevent extreme ideas, nor will it stop speech that incites to terrorism. A ban will only drive such ideas underground, where they remain unchallenged,” he says.

Freedom of speech should be given precedent, Ekeli believes, although he acknowledges that calls to commit criminal acts are likely to increase the odds of someone breaking the law,

He is supported by Helge Rønning, professor of media studies at the University of Oslo.

“Driving anti-democratic sentiment underground is dangerous,” Rønning tells national newspaper Vårt Land.

He agrees with Ekeli that it should be legal to incite to terrorism. It should only be made illegal in those cases were these threats are aimed at specific individuals or groups, he says. Rønning believes that it’s okay to encourage someone to kill Jews, but he believes that it should be a criminal offense to encourage someone to burn down the Jewish synagogue in Oslo. [emphasis added]

The duo is criticized by Anine Kierulf from the Law Faculty at UiS who believes that there need to be certain restriction placed upon freedom of speech.

And take note of this final sentence:

“Statements that encourage violence can undermine the democracy, by threatening or scaring people into silence,” she says.

In Norway, “threatening or scaring people into silence” isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.

It’s what the media elite tried to do to Fjordman, but it didn’t work.

Muslim Paedophiles, Feminists and Future Civil War

Over the past few weeks new cases involving Muslim “grooming and pimping” gangs have appeared almost daily in the British media. In his latest essay, Paul Weston takes a hard look at what is happening, and what it portends for “community cohesion” in Britain.

Muslim Paedophiles, Feminists and Future Civil War
By Paul Weston

The British police are slightly less of a disgrace than they were a couple of years ago. In the not-so-distant past there was little reporting of native British girls being drugged, groomed, raped and murdered by gangs of Muslim males in our towns and cities.

Paul WestonThis wall of silence was erected in the interests of “community cohesion,” a modern verbal concept invented by our liberal elites who think it is better that the indigenous population remain unaware of the horrifying abuse carried out by British Muslims. This is understandable, because to be aware might make even the most fluffy-headed of liberals question the benefits of mass Muslim migration into the liberal democracy that was once Great Britain.

That is one way of explaining their historical silence, I suppose. The fact that Mohammed’s marriage to six-year-old Aisha was consummated when she was only nine might also play a part in the whole sordid affair, along with the fact that Muslim males consider Muslim females to be second class-citizens — not to mention infidel females.

But now that the liberal silence has been broken, we appear to suffering from an absolute epidemic of Muslim paedophilia and abuse. Dewsbury, Leeds, Blackburn, Blackpool, Derby, Rochdale, Birmingham etc. etc. all seem to have their very own Islamic gang-rape-of-under-age-children-enclaves, with the recent additions of Oxford and Glasgow. The ongoing benefits of multiculturalism we are constantly being told to celebrate are certainly well-represented geographically, it must be said.

If this were a situation where gangs of white males were raping young Muslim girls it would have been headline news a long time ago, but sadly the native British are now very much second-class citizens within their own homeland. In these perverse multicultural times we live in, all cultures are equal except ours.

If the BBC and Germaine Greer are not too busy over the next few days, perhaps they might like to comment on this matter. As the eternal espousers of feminism, it would appear only right for them to do so. Whilst they are at it, perhaps they might also like to weigh in on the 17,000 cases of Muslim “Honour” violence reported by the Independent, along with a recent report stating one in five Muslims thinks it permissible to inflict physical violence on women who dishonour their families. (It is one of those odd facets of multiculturalism that such dishonour could be incurred by dating a native Brit.)

But even though the British police have finally plucked up sufficient bravery to overcome the sheer awfulness of being called nasty playground names, and are now belatedly actually doing something to protect our children from Muslim rapists and paedophiles, it might be some time before British feminists and the BBC also garner such courage.

Left-wing ideology still thinks of Muslims as a minority to be protected in the face of relentless oppression by the native British. But quite how a lone thirteen year-old girl could oppress a gang of adult bearded males after being drugged, or rendered comatose via vodka, is one of those not altogether incidental questions the BBC feminists and Ms Greer should really be asking themselves.

And it is important that they do. We are already at the early stages of a tribal/religious civil war in Britain, courtesy of the immigration and appeasement policies of ALL the political traitor class. The Muslim rape of our children now appears to be a driving force in what over the coming years can only make civil war inevitable.

If you think this is an overreaction, please read the following paragraphs, taken from a recent Independent article about white riots in Rochdale:

“We are innocent people loyal to the community,” proclaimed the posters adorning the windows of the Tasty Bites takeaway yesterday. If we are guilty, why the police have not arrested us? Why we are still working? Why our shop is still open?”

But on Monday, takeaways in the Heywood area of Rochdale were mentioned in media coverage of a child sex gang trial involving 11 Asian men at Liverpool Crown Court. Racial tensions have been simmering ever since and on Thursday night they erupted when a demonstration, apparently organised on social media, in protest at the allegations, degenerated into violence.

Up to 150 people — many of them children — took to the streets, some of them brandishing racist placards. During the evening the mob began pelting police with bricks and targeting takeaways on the main shopping parade before being dispersed by riot vans.

Taxi drivers were threatened and an Asian pizza delivery man had his vehicle attacked. A police officer suffered bruising and two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were arrested.

Although Mr Ahmed and his family have nothing to do with the trial or the alleged events which are said to have taken place prior to his purchase of the business, his livelihood has collapsed since Monday. “I have lost all my customers — not a word of a lie. We are suffering. Last night they were doing all sorts of stuff — shouting ‘get the rapist out’. ‘Paedophile’. Quite abusive words.

“The police were there but they were quite limited and they asked us to close the business. It will take me five to 10 years to build it back up again. We have had so many phone calls giving abuse — all kinds of threats; threatening to burn the shop down.”

Four people are employed at Tasty Bites and Mr Ahmed has mortgaged his family home in order to set his son-in-law Ammir Rafiq up in business. Each works seven days a week until at least 1am.

But not last night. Like the other Asian businesses in this predominantly white community, they were rolling down the shutters early as police called for calm and promised a “robust” approach to any further trouble.

Amid the rumours swirling around the town are fears that elements of the far-right might be preparing to exploit the tensions. There have already been calls to ban an English Defence League march due to take place in the nearby town of Hyde following an alleged attack on a white teenager by Asian youths earlier this month.

But no one knows what will happen in Heywood, which has hitherto escaped the kind of rioting which so badly scarred near-neighbours Oldham, Burnley and Bradford in recent years.

The sense of foreboding was palpable. At Eagle Cars 2000, where the drivers are predominantly Asian, most went home early as trouble flared. “One driver told me they saw baseball bats and they were getting out of town. They are frightened as is everybody. The base staff were frightened, I was frightened,” said manager Katie Turner.

Darren Taylor, manager at Domino’s Pizza, said one of his drivers was surrounded. “They were banging and kicking on the car and calling him a paedo and a Paki,” he said.

Police, meanwhile, urged parents to be aware of where young people were over the coming days. Superintendent Chris Hankinson, from Greater Manchester Police said: “Those that seek to use what’s going on at the moment in Liverpool to further their racist agenda will be dealt with robustly.”

The disturbances were condemned by community leaders. Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Manchester-based Ramadhan Foundation, said: “Mob rule or vigilantism is not the way we conduct ourselves in this country.” Colin Lambert, leader of Rochdale Council, said: “Let’s keep the cohesion together. This is about protecting families and children.”

These quisling policemen and council leaders are a little too late. Memo to Superintendent Hankinson: We are not trying to further our racist agenda, we are protesting about racism carried out against us. And memo to council leader Lambert, there is no cohesion to keep together, you half-wit!

And you are way too late to have the sheer bare faced effrontery to talk about protecting families and children in Rochdale, having already betrayed the native British families and children within your manor through your politically correct silence.

The Jihad Librarian of Valencia

A breaking news story from Spain concerns today’s arrest of a suspected Al Qaeda recruiter known as “The Librarian”.

Many thanks to Hermes for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling of this news clip. Note: there were problems with the audio in the original video from the news website, and Vlad was unable to repair the sound completely:

Below is the accompanying article from Intereconomía, also translated by Hermes:

Known among the jihadists as ‘The Librarian’

The Al-Qaeda member arrested in Valencia was tasked to recruit terrorists like the one in Toulouse

Jorge Fernandez Diaz says terrorists like Mohamed Merah were indoctrinated and recruited via Internet forums such as that run by the detainee.

The interior minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz highlighted the arrest of a suspected member of the Al Qaeda terrorist network, known in jihadist circles as ‘The Librarian’, and said that terrorists such as Mohamed Merah, the murderer of Toulouse, were recruited and indoctrinated through Internet forums such as that run by the detainee in Valencia.

“He was known within the organization as ‘The Librarian of Al Qaeda’ and was in charge of one of the most important jihadist forums in the world, which was dedicated to the dissemination of terrorist activities, terrorist recruitment and indoctrination. To understand it properly, the training of people like Mohamed Merah, the murderer of Toulouse, was made possible through forums like this” said the minister, but has made clear that “this operation has nothing to do with the other in Toulouse”

As he explained in the Congress of Deputies, this is an operation that began more than a year ago and in which more than a hundred of agents were involved. “He is a suspected member of Al Qaeda who worked for this organization and for its two subsidiaries: Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb,” he added.

Fernandez Diaz has specified that the detainee had a full dedication to terrorist activities and employed between “8 and 15 hours a day at home.” To them “he spread jihadist ideas and engaged in the recruitment and transport facilitation of possible jihadists to Afghanistan and other countries where terrorism is very active,” the minister declared, and has assured that the operation remains open and that the alleged terrorist is currently being questioned.

Official sources have told Europa Press that the detainee had fixed his residence as in Valencia and, although born in Amman, was a national of Saudi Arabia. The police also searched his residence, located on Calle Juan XXIII of the city of Valencia, the same sources explained.

Transcript of the news video:

00:01   Shortly after the atrocity perpetrated in France
00:04   by the new jihadist figure known as
00:06   “Al Qaeda’s lone wolf”, the police in Valencia
00:08   arrested today one of the “specimens”
00:10   dedicated to recruitment, the
00:12   spreading of Islamist propaganda, and
00:14   the encouragement of terrorist acts.
00:16   For them, the enemy is the whole
00:18   Judaeo-Christian West, where they
00:20   live infiltrated in its social structures,
00:22   and which they blame for all the
00:24   pain and need that afflicts that enormous
00:27   spiritual nation called Islam, whose
00:29   expansion and spirit of conquest
00:31   is one of the leading moral, political
00:33   and religious driving forces found
00:35   in the only one code of individual
00:37   and collective behavior they follow,
00:39   the Qur’an. The West has become a
00:41   victim of its own laws and hostage
00:43   of its own immigration policies
00:45   which lone wolves, or wolves in packs, exploit
00:47   just like the one who was

Mullah Krekar Bunged into Chokey for Five Years

Update: Here is the video of Mullah Krekar’s arrest. I can hear him shout “Don’t blame Islam”, but I can’t understand the second shout:

The notorious “Norwegian” firebrand Mullah Krekar has finally been brought to justice. He has been sentenced to five years in jail for threatening the Kurds who burned a Koran.

Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for uploading this video:

Our Norwegian correspondent The Observer sent several tips and translations on the Jumpin’ Jihad Jailbird. He includes this note:

Apparently Mullah Krekar attacked a reporter later that day (he wasn’t taken into custody afterwards, he will be asked to show up at a jail sometime in the future) when a reporter from TV2 in Norway wanted a comment on the sentence.

Well, I suppose this will mean that more non-Western immigrants among the inmates will be radicalised by the Mad Mullah. Or maybe he will serve his sentence on the idyllic island of Bastoy?

The sentence will probably be appealed so, the circus is likely to go on for a long time.

Here’s a link to VG’s article with photos of Krekar attacking the reporter.

An article in English from The Global Post:

Radical cleric Mullah Krekar jailed for five years in Norway

Mullah Krekar, the Iraqi-born cleric and founder of the radical Ansar al-Islam Islamist group, has been jailed for five years in Norway for making death threats against officials and others.

Mullah Krekar #2Mullah Krekar, the Kurdish cleric and founder of radical Islamist group Ansar al-Islam, has been sentenced to five years in prison in Norway for issuing death threats against officials and others.

An Oslo district court found the 55-year-old guilty on Monday of threatening the life of Erna Solberg, a former government minister who signed an order expelling Krekar in 2003 because he was considered a threat to national security, the Agence France Presse reported.

Krekar, who came to Norway as a refugee from Iraq with his family in 1991, and whose real name is Najmeddine Faraj Ahmad, was also found guilty of threatening three other Kurds living in Norway who had burned pages of the Qu’ran or insulted it in other ways.

From his home in Oslo, Krekar founded Ansar al-Islam, which the US and UN regard as a terrorist organization and Washington blames for attacks on coalition forces in Iraq.

The UN added Krekar to a list of people believed to have links with Al Qaeda in 2006. The cleric remains in Norway despite the deportation order against him due to Iraq’s unstable security situation, the BBC reports.

Krekar, who claims to have stepped down as leader of Ansar al-Islam in 2002 and denies any ties to Al Qaeda, said in court that he would appeal Monday’s ruling, according to the Associated Press.

Today a large number of armed police arrested Mullah Krekar and took him into custody pending an arraignment (translation by The Observer):

Armed police arrest Mullah Krekar

TØYEN (AP) Here a screaming Mullah Krekar is led away by a dozen armed police officers.

Mullah Krekar, or Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad, which is his real name, was sentenced to five years in prison for making death threats and for inciting terror on Monday.

VG Nett was present outside Krekar’s apartment when police raided the mullah’s residence on Tuesday afternoon. Five patrol cars were parked outside, and at least ten police officers entered his apartment just before 14.00.

Krekar was led out of the apartment complex at 14.07 by armed police. He had a jacket placed over his hands, and it is unclear whether he was handcuffed.

“Don’t blame Islam,” he shouted in English as police placed him in a patrol car and drove away.

Krekar’s wife was inside the apartment when the police came.

According to information that VG Nett has received the PST has been considering whether to arrest Krekar and bring him into custody until the start of the appeals court case. Members of the Oslo Police department assisted the PST in the arrest, according to a press release published by the PST this afternoon:

“At 14.00 today the PST with the assistance from the Oslo Police department arrested Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad (aka Mullah Krekar) on the basis of the Oslo District Court’s verdict against him yesterday, and due to the obvious risk of him reoffending (terror threats).

“Krekar will be arraigned at the Oslo District Court and the prosecution will ask the court to place him in mandatory detention. As of yet no time has been set for the arraignment”

Searched the apartment

According to leader of operations Lasse Alver, police are currently searching the Mullah’s apartment. The police have so far not confiscated any of his belongings

“Was it necessary to involve such a large number of police officers to carry out the arrest?”

“Better safe than sorry,” Alver tells VG Nett.

Last Tuesday Aftenposten reported that last weekend the mullah had posted an online video in which he urged his followers to attack Norwegian interests abroad. He specifically mentioned Norwegian police personnel.

An arraignment will be held tomorrow in the Oslo District Court, according to Krekar’s defense lawyer Arvid Sjødin.

“I do not know on what basis the PST decided to arrest my client,” he says.

In an interesting twist, the judge in the Krekar case seems to have re-established a de facto law against blasphemy in Norway. The Observer notes:

Lars Gule is the former would-be terrorist and multicultural lunatic extraordinaire. However, in this article he does come up with some good points about the verdict and the current levels of political correctness in Norwegian courtrooms.

The translated article from VG.no:

“The court has concluded that ‘we kind of’ have blasphemy laws in Norway”

(AP) In the verdict against Mullah Krekar, Judge Per Fleisje concluded that the two Kurds threatened by the defendant were themselves guilty of eliciting such a response from him.

Islamic scholar Lars Gule is highly critical of the court’s justification not to award compensation to the Kurds by stating that they were guilty of eliciting such a response from the defendant.

“The judge also referred to the Koran as a holy book, something he has no business doing. He could have said that the Koran is considered holy to Muslims,” says Lars Gule, head lecturer at Oslo University College. He also points out that Judge Per Fleisje referred to the burning of the Koran as a “deliberate provocation, and in the court’s opinion, completely unacceptable act.”

“What the court is saying here is that we ‘kind of’ have a blasphemy law in Norway. I don’t support the burning of the Koran, but I reject the idea that this should be made a criminal offense.”

Gule is sceptical to this aspect of the verdict.

“Norwegian courts are secular courts, and that means that they can’t define something as holy,” he says. He is pleased, however, that the judge made it absolutely clear that there is no room for Islamic law in Norwegian jurisprudence.
