I don’t have a link for it, but I saw a news alert this evening that the House has passed the compromise bill raising the debt limit, and default has thus been avoided. Right down to the wire — just as we all expected.
Meanwhile, the Mufti of the Tunisian Republic has ordered all cafés and restaurants to close during the day for Ramadan, despite the opposition of the minister for religious affairs. Tunisia used to be relatively tolerant and secularized, but last winter’s revolution has changed all that.
In other news, China says that the recent attack that killed six civilians in the city of Kashgar in Xinjiang was launched by mujahideen trained in Pakistan.
