Who’da thunk it? This argument was supposed to drag on for another two decades or so. Or however long it took to make us and other foolish governments who bought the solely-anthropogenic-because-humanity-is-evil global warming…umm, science. Yes, that’s it: the settled science of man-made climate disasters. They left us but one option, and that was penitence eternal.
We deserved cold, dark homes in the winter and sweltering, cramped cement apartments in the summer. We all needed to give up our cars and the evil fuel used to make them run. We were supposed to shun any idea of nuclear power.
Now there you have two ugly, sinful words in one phrase. “Nuclear” anything is bad, and of course, “power” is for thugs like George Bush and other American imperialists. Humble rulers would forsake ‘rule’ for dialogue, and surrender ‘power’ for being liked instead of being feared. In other words, Hope and Change.
But now what? The cat is out of the bag and that furry feline is shredding the myths quicker than the myth-makers can paste them back together.
Michelle Malkin is one of many sites running this story. She calls it The global warming scandal of the century. Catchy title; the century is young yet.
An unknown person put postings on some climate skeptic websites that advertised an FTP file on a Russian FTP server, here is the message that was placed on the Air Vent today:
We feel that climate science is, in the current situation, too important to be kept under wraps.
We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents…
The file was large, about 61 megabytes, containing hundreds of files.
It contained data, code, and emails from Phil Jones at CRU [University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit] to and from many people.
I’ve seen the file, it appears to be genuine and from CRU. Others who have seen it concur- it appears genuine. There are so many files it appears unlikely that it is a hoax. The effort would be too great.
He then posts some of these emails from the East Hadley and there is a long comment section, which I recommend.
Mr. McIntyre focuses on one particular email revealed by the hackers:
So far one of the most circulated e-mails from the CRU hack is the following from Phil Jones to the original hockey stick authors – Michael Mann, Raymond Bradley, and Malcolm Hughes.

Subject: Diagram for WMO Statement
Date: Tue, 16 Nov 1999 13:31:15 +0000
Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,
Once Tim’s got a diagram here we’ll send that either later today or
first thing tomorrow.
I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps
to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from
1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual
land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land
N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999
for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with
data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.
Thanks for the comments, Ray.

The e-mail is about WMO statement on the status of the global climate in 1999 -report, or more specifically, about its cover image.
Read the news story in fuller detail at the Essex County Conservative Examiner.
Meanwhile, an important sidebar to this story was discussed in an earlier post of Ms. Malkin’s, before the hacker story broke. In How do you say “You lie!” in Mandarin?, she points out Obama’s bold-faced prevarication. The man’s gotta be from Chicago:
President Obama traveled all the way to China to praise the free flow of information. It’s the only safe place he could do so without getting heckled. With a straight face, Obama lauded political dissent and told Chinese students that he welcomed unfettered criticism in America.
Most recently, two EPA lawyers critical of the “fatally flawed” cap-and-trade system -peddled by their agency, the White House, and the Democrat majority – were told by their superiors to yank a video they posted to YouTube explaining their views. Despite including a caveat that the opinions expressed were their own and not the agency’s, the couple faces possible disciplinary action by the feds. While demanding the video be yanked, the EPA disingenuously claims it tolerates all dissenting views of its employees.
The clampdown follows on the heels of the Obama EPA’s stifling of veteran researcher Alan Carlin’s dissent. He dared to challenge the agency’s reliance on outdated data to support its greenhouse gas “public endangerment” finding. Carlin’s report was squelched; his office is now on the chopping block.
Delicious irony in this episode about the EPA coming to light so shortly before the hacker’s release of all that perfidious climate change ‘information’.
Maybe this story will mature enough to doom “Cap and Tax” in the Senate? I hope so. As is usual in this administration, they are doing their dirty work on the weekend. In this case, the Senate is set to vote on Saturday (tomorrow) on the latest conspiracy to keep us poor and stupid – i.e., the “Healthcare” bill. I put that in scare quotes because there is little health for anyone but bureaucrats and Big Pharma in that mess. And it’s for darn sure they don’t care about you and me or they wouldn’t even be considering making yet another mess on yet another weekend night. Another stealthy steaming pile that will have to be cleaned up behind them. If it can be cleaned up.
At best, Obama & minions are going to leave some lasting stains on our commonweal.
Meanwhile, enjoy the latest smoking gun regarding “climate” “change”. It’s a fraud, we always knew it was a fraud. But then academia is riddled through with fraudulence.
A big thank you to the Brits – whoever they are – responsible for giving these emails legs. May the real information wander far and wide, spreading some truth atop the mountains of lies we’ve been forced to endure.
Well, so much for my big news. The Baron looked at my post and asked if I realized that the story had been in the news feed for the last two nights. Here and here.
I am so exhausted from taking care of the fB through the course of this swine flu, also known as the evil disease around here, that I wrote one email and read the comments in two posts.
I couldn’t even make myself react to Nodrog and can’t remember if he said anything objectionable. I’m punch drunk with fatigue and counting the hours between medication times. It’s gotten so bad that I have to keep a written record.
The patient seems to be on the mend as I am going ‘round the bend. Fortunately, his girl friend came to help and I am so grateful not to be the one on call all the time. Listening to those awful coughing fits is almost as bad as having them yourself.
The worst part for the fB is not talking. It makes his coughing worse. Imagine a silent Irishman…or one who is trying to be silent. Torture.
Pray we do not end up in the ER again, especially on the weekend with all the knifings. Just because they insist on getting inebriated/stoned and proceed to stick one another with sharp instruments…why does that mean they can’t take their turn in line with everyone else?
Ah, visions of HealthCare future….
At any rate, this is still a good story. Bye, bye al-Gore.
