Arrested for Posting Newspaper Clippings

Several years ago, when I first started reading Fjordman’s posts on his own blog, I noticed his predictions about the imminent arrival of a police state in various European countries.

“Hmm,” I thought, “I know things are bad in Europe. But isn’t he exaggerating a bit? It can’t be that bad just yet.”

It turns out that Fjordman wasn’t exaggerating, and it is that bad. If anything, he was being optimistic about the speed of the coming descent into totalitarianism.

Based on what’s happening now in Britain, the UK has become a police state. The legal and bureaucratic machinery is in place, and is already being employed against the subjects of Her Majesty the Queen.

First, the bare bones of the story, from today’s edition of This is Nottingham:

BNP landlord arrested over ‘cuttings’

A PUB landlord has been arrested on suspicion of committing a racially-aggravated public order offence because of newspaper clippings on the wall.

Peter Mailer was arrested after a complaint from a senior Notts Police officer who visited the Black Bull in Warkworth, Northumberland, while on holiday.

Mr Mailer, who admits he is an active supporter of the British National Party, was hauled into the nearby Alnwick Police Station.

He has been bailed to return to the station on December 23, when he will learn whether or not the Crown Prosecution Service will charge him.

The 52-year-old said he was stunned to learn that the complaint had been made by the Notts officer. He said the officer had been in the pub with a friend and their wives. They chatted to him, but never mentioned the cuttings, which are mainly from national newspapers. Three days later, police arrested him and took everything off the walls.

Daily Mail front page
This is Nottingham doesn’t tell us what the offending clippings were. They must have been really nasty, right? If the coppers were so disgusted that they arrested the fellow, the clippings must have been very offensive…

Well, not quite. It turns out that they included the front page of The Daily Mail, as shown at right.

There’s more about the incident at the BNP website:

The Police State Is Here: BNP Publican Arrested over Commercial Newspaper Cuttings

Anyone who doubts that the Police State does not exist should think again. A BNP-supporting publican has been arrested because of commercial newspaper cuttings he pasted up on his pub walls which a visiting senior police officer did not like.

Mr Peter Mailer, owner of the Black Bull in Warkworth, Northumberland was arrested on ‘suspicion of committing a racially-aggravated public order offence’ because of newspaper clippings on the wall.

Mr. Mailer was arrested after a complaint from a senior Nottingham Police officer who visited the pub while on holiday.

Mr Mailer, who is an active supporter of the British National Party, was hauled into the nearby Alnwick Police Station.

He has been bailed to return to the station on December 23, when he will learn whether or not the Crown Prosecution Service will charge him.

The newspaper cuttings were all from commercially published daily newspapers. Journalists from the papers who read this, had therefore better be aware that the state which they have helped to create, will ultimately come for them as well.

Consider the ramifications of all this. First, the facts:

1.   The BNP is a completely legal political party. Admittedly, it is viewed as “racist” by the elites who currently hold political power and control most of the media. But it’s perfectly legal, and garners a substantial number of votes in elections.
2.   The Daily Mail is a completely legal newspaper, with millions of readers. The front page that got Mr. Mailer arrested was publicly displayed on the street and at newsstands all over the country on the day it was published. It was undeniably legal to display, purchase, and read the page in question.
3.   Mr. Mailer, as an Englishman living in a purportedly free country, can claim as one of his ancient liberties the right to display a legal publication, legally obtained, on the wall of his business establishment.
4.   Despite all of the above, a legal statute was manipulated in such a way as to permit Mr. Mailer to be arrested.

If that doesn’t define a police state, I don’t know what does.

It’s obvious that Peter Mailer is being persecuted entirely because of his support for the BNP. His freedom of expression does not exist if he uses it to support the BNP.

And now he is subject to the tender mercies of the Ministry of Truth…

But here’s the good news: grotesque official bullying of this sort has a tendency to backfire, especially in a country like England, which has a long tradition of rallying behind the underdog.

Just wait until the elections of 2010 — assuming that Gormless Gordon doesn’t discover a way to cancel them.

  1. Check out this as well: Oxford dictionary eradicates words associated with Christianity and British history

I believe the technical term for what we’re being ot through is democide.

    In order of severity:

    1. Ethnic cleansing: Whole people’s being moved on from a certain area, population replacement.

    2. Democide: Destroying the conciousness and culture of a certain people i.e. Kulturkampf, Tsarist Russification.

    3. Genocide: Physical destruction.

  2. Democide is a good term. Shave the local population of all its attributes to please some displaced ethnococktail…

Why those having roots somewhere should be placed on the balance to be weighed against those having no roots, even maintaining their roots somewhere else?

Rabelais referring to the dictators uses another term “demophague” demo-eater or demo-devourer.

Using new terms might prove efficient, it could confuse/weaken people used to perrot something.

In Greece there is a new right party called Laos, already crossed the 5% bar.

Laos is more appropriate in our sense “people”, “demos” denoted originally different Greek tribes… which makes the word democracy rather strange.

Lao-cracy would be closer to the “people”. Strange. Demo-cracy would be appropriate for a specific tribe ruling over a specific territory?

Possibly, the banishment in Old Greece consisted of not sharing the specific fundamental rights associated to a city-state. The other tribe-rule was a sort of jail for outsiders…a punishment.

    Interesting in our context.

  3. Usually a story like this would leave me with my jaw on the floor. No More. I would love to know what the other “offending” pictures were?

  4. Democide is a more generic term than that …

It refers to any whole-sale slaughter by the State of it’s own citizens. Genocide is a racist subset of Democide.

Nutcases like Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot engaged in Democide, murdering millions with out regard to their ethnicity.

Remember that when idiots advocate gun control … the greatest murderers of the 20th Century were all government workers.

  5. “Shave the local population of all its attributes to please some displaced ethnococktail…”

excellent turn of phrase from Czechmade.

kbarrett is correct that democide has been committed against people by their own governments (almost exclusively leftist) as documented in the book “Death by Government” by RJ Rummel.

The first step is always to disarm the population under various pretenses, then co-opt the police and military to maintainers of government power rather than defenders of the people and liberty.

  6. This item comes soon after the much more widely publicised recent arrest of a senior opposition politican, Tory Damian Green, and after the much less widely publicised arrest of 13 BNP activists in Liverpool, who had been distributing an alleged racist booklet to people’s homes in the city.

The BNP leafleters were all eventually released without charge, but not until their homes had been searched. The alleged racist booklet has presumably now been accepted as legal.

The state does not like people opposing multiculturalism and the media helps the state to persecute those who do.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the next general election gets cancelled, in the same way that Ireland’s No vote to the EUSSR’s Lisbon Treaty is going to be ignored.

  7. I do not know why people speak in terms of elections being cancelled. The whole point with liberal mass democracy is that elections are meaningless and can never change anything. So when we get Reinfeldt in Sweden, or you get Carmeron in the UK it’s the same, and in some respects even worse.

It’s the perfect scam: i) impossible to change the way a country is governed, and ii) providing the illusion of full power to the people to elect the best possible government.
