Gates of Vienna News Feed 8/18/2017

Two people were killed and at least five others wounded in a terrorist attack in the Finnish city of Turku. The attacker used a knife to stab multiple people on the street. There were early reports of “Allahu Akhbar” being yelled during the attack, but in the one video I’ve seen of the murderer running down the sidewalk, whatever he is shouting remains unclear.

Meanwhile, the three incidents in Spain yesterday — the vehicular attack in Barcelona, the foiled terror attack in which the terrorists were killed, and the house that exploded — have been confirmed as connected with one another. A Moroccan jihad group, many of whose members seem to be related to one another, is said to be responsible for them.

Caroline Glick: Trump and the Jews

On Wednesday, President Reuven Rivlin sent a letter of support to the American Jewish community in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, last Saturday.

On the surface, his move made sense — the largest Diaspora community is concerned about the growing profile of viciously antisemitic forces on the Right. But at a deeper level, Rivlin’s move was detrimental.

Rivlin’s letter channeled a communal posture that ignores the actual state of the Jewish community. In so doing, it made it more difficult for Jewish Americans to recognize and surmount the dangers they face.

The American Jewish community is rightly concerned about neo-Nazis and other white supremacist groups that are gaining more and more attention these days. The fact that antisemitism was the dominant theme of a rally ostensibly organized to oppose the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a public park reveals the potency and centrality of Jew-hatred as an organizing tool for white supremacists in America.

President Donald Trump’s remarks on Tuesday, where he claimed that only some of the people participating in the protest were white supremacists and the rest were just there to protect a monument, were hurtful…

13 Killed After Van Plows Into Barcelona Crowd

Here’s the latest:

A terror attack took place in Barcelona when a van plowed into a crowd in Las Ramblas, killing at least 13 and injuring 100.

The driver was arrested after escaping on foot; a second suspect has also been arrested. One is a Spanish national and one is Moroccan.

Neither of the two arrested men was the driver according to police who remains at large.

A third attacker has died after being shot dead by the police.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility.

The Spanish passport of a person of Moroccan origin was found at the scene of the attack.

The CIA warned Spanish police two months ago that Las Ramblas was a terror target.

This would be the deadliest terrorist attack in Spain since 2004 bombing, when Islamist militants placed bombs on commuter trains in Madrid, killing 191 people and wounding more than 1,800.

Barcelona Van Driver Reportedly Killed by Police

A police union official says he has been told that Moussa Oukabir, one of the main suspects in the Barcelona and Cambrils van attacks, was killed by officers in Cambrils early Friday.

Spanish media are also reporting that Oukabir, 17, was killed and say he is the driver of the van that plowed into scores of pedestrians in Barcelona on Thursday, killing 13 people and wounding 120 others.

A spokesman for Catalonia regional police said authorities were investigating whether the driver had been killed but would not say if they suspected this was Oukabir.

The official with a union for Spain’s Civil Guard police force told The Associated Press that police colleagues confirmed Oukabir was one of five suspects killed by Catalan regional police officers early Friday in an attack on a seaside resort.

The union official says Oukabir was one of four suspects for whom a court has issued warrants. He is also believed to be the younger brother of Driss Oukabir, one of the four people arrested since the attacks. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose the information…

Terror Warning: Barcelona Attack Only the Start as Spain Has Become ‘A Hub for ISIS’

THE BARCELONA terror attack was not surprising as Spain has become “a hub for financing ISIS”, according to the CEO of a counter-extremism organisation. …

“I am not surprised, Spain has had a problem for a while.

“We know that Spain are currently are monitoring over 1000 people there and the court system actually has around 700 people that it is currently taking through the court system there. There are just over 200 people that have been found guilty.

“We know that Spain has been a hub for financing ISIS and plots, recently there were people in April arrested for financing the France and Belgium plots.

“Also we know that Spain is a hub through which people are sent out to join ISIS and to return back to Europe and just because Spain hasn’t had an attack for a while, it doesn’t mean that all of these things have been bubbling underneath.”

Turku Stabbing: Two Dead in Finnish City After Market Square Attack

Finnish police say two people have died and six people have been injured after a stabbing attack in a market square in the south-western city of Turku.

It was unclear if the incident was related to terrorism, said police, who shot at and arrested one man after the attack. Contrary to earlier reports, police said they were not looking for other suspects.

Police said the suspect was in custody and being treated in a hospital after officers shot him in the thigh. People were warned to stay away from Turku as security was reinforced nationwide.

At about 4.40pm, south-west Finland police tweeted: “Several people stabbed in central Turku. People are requested to avoid the city centre.”

Witness Laura Laine told YLE that she stood approximately 20 metres (65ft) from where the stabbing took place. “We heard that a young woman was screaming. We saw a man on the square and a knife glittered,” Laine was quoted as saying. “He was waving it in the air. I understood that he had stabbed someone.”

Marrying Hindu Girls for Making Human Bombs

Our daughter will be used as a human bomb: Kerala woman remembers her child’s conversion, forced marriage.

Even now, Bindu thinks her daughter Nimisha (alias Fathima), believed to be one of the 22 Keralites who went missing last year, is safe.

“Nothing will happen to her,” she says.

When Bindu, a native of Thiruvananthapuram’s Attukal, sent her daughter to a private dental college in Kasargod, she had no way of knowing how things would turn out.

She recalls how Nimisha got into a relationship with a man named Sajad, who — along with his mother — took her to a Salafi center in Thiruvananthapuram. Sajad promised to marry her if she converted.

At the time, however, Bindu had no clue what was going on…

  1. Glick’s article is good but she ignores the essence of the Left’s street violence. It is to remove the middle class from the public square, associate anyone who wants to preserve historical monuments to Nazis, and frighten…well everyone.

The average patriot must repudiate the far right ( and does!) and those on the left intent on silencing us as they await their world revolution’s successes inside the USA. This is where Christian groups need to take the lead and rule the public square with marches and rallies. Our silence and lack of action in the public squares across America is damnable.

  2. Muslim in South Australia slit his son’s throat and dropped him down a mine shaft: ‘The Supreme Court was told doctors treating Zilic wanted him to have the opportunity to show that he could return to the community.’ He’s free.

HERE IS A METAPHOR HIGHLIGHTING THE PROBLEM OF THE WEST.

The Muslim was a schizophrenic opal miner in Coober Pedy, in the outback. (Because of the intense heat, people live underground. It’s a rough place.)

Clearly, Islam itself is the product of a pathological nutcase, and therefore it is hardly surprising that it produces psycho-pathology in its members, as we daily see around the world!

How is this issue of violent mayhem dealt with? As a ‘mental illness’!
The problem is that ‘mental illness’ treatments through narrative therapy (‘how I became a nutcase’) and drugs, which have variable and unpredictable side effects, and moreover, are often not taken at all, don’t have a very high rate of success!

Years ago in New York, a study was done among (clearly unhinged)heroin addicts that the best possible chance of healing is for an addict to ‘find God’ – a loving God, not the God of hatred which Allah epitomizes.

In South Australia, ‘Teen Challenge’, a rehabilitation program based on Christian values, receives scant government funding because it is Christian. Yet, the government-owned ‘cognitive therapy’ programs are little more than expensive revolving doors.

So, the West has removed the healing Judeo-Christian God, yet allows the spread of a far inferior entity (Allah), whose Koran promotes violence, is incompatible with democracy, and we treat those who adhere to the Islamic program with ineffectual remedies.

Is this not madness? Clearly, the West would rather destroy itself than admit it has failed and turn its face back to the Judeo-Christian God for help.

    • This father is exactly why capital punishment should remain an option.

He does not deserve the privilege of ‘rehabilitation’.

40 years ago the Aussies would have stretched his neck at Fremantle Prison, and they’d have been right to do it.

  3. Here is a lead for any investigative journalist:

In London the whereabouts and state of Ignacio Echeverría were denied to everyone for several days, even after the Spanish Embassy launched requests. This was dramatised in the media.

In Barcelona the same is happening over an Australian child, where in fact the legal obligation of notifying only immediate family was fulfilled. A grandparent I think was not informed and started a social media campaign, which was taken up by the British and Au. PMs, as well as being dramatised by the media.

There is either a line of purposeful misinformation running through Anglo office, or events are purposefully being exaggerated to gain coverage, or UK and Au. authorities think they will overrule Spanish legal procedure on duty and privacy, or gain political ground using them, while the UK has policy to the extreme opposite in terms of disclosure.

Whichever way it is there is hypocrisy and politicizing of a bad event, which I find foul. It also distracts from more pressing questions of responsibility.

  4. Re. the Turku knife attack, the article above says the “suspect” (that must mean they’re not sure that the man they think did it, actually did it) is “foreign looking”.Huh, what a surprise. Another report I’ve read says he’s Moroccan (huh, another surprise) and in 2016 sought asylum in Finland. WTF are Moroccans doing in Finland and why on earth should Moroccans be seeking asylum anyway, anywhere? Now there are victims, the dead and injured. Oh Europe, oh Europe. What have you done? And why?

    • The Maghrebi countries are more savvy than the Euros think they are.

These countries know they have population versus quantity of jobs issues.

They absolutely encourage the losers that cannot succeed in those countries to migrate to Europe and get on the dole. They know full well that those losers will help establish a beachhead for the Maghrebi/Ummah in Europe.

This whole disaster is a giant win-win for the Maghrebi countries, you will never see them taking action to change this situation.
