Area Around Milwaukee DPW Garage Evacuated After Earlier Explosion

Two men critically injured

MILWAUKEE — Two people were critically injured in an explosion at a municipal facility on the city’s southwest side, an official said.

First responders were called to the Department of Public Works’ Lincoln Avenue Garage, on the 3900 block of West Lincoln Avenue, just before 1 p.m.

Milwaukee’s deputy fire chief on the scene said he believed the two men were contractors and not municipal employees. He said the explosion occurred as they were filling a natural gas van with fuel.

The area within a 300-yard radius around the facility was evacuated at about 4:30 p.m. because more propane tanks were found in the van, and there were fears of a secondary explosion, WISN 12 News reporter Terry Sater said. A hazmat team was called.

A witness said the men were injured by shrapnel and were bleeding profusely.

Huntsville Terrorism Suspect Wanted to Carry Out Multiple Attacks for ISIS, Investigator Claims

Huntsville terrorism suspect Aziz Sayyed did not plan on conducting a suicide bombing, instead he wanted to live and carry out additional attacks for which ISIS would claim credit, an investigator testified today.

Sayyed, a 22-year-old college student, is accused of obtaining bomb making materials to set off an explosion at a Madison County police or military building. His case is headed to a grand jury for consideration of an indictment. During a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon, Madison County District Judge Schuyler Richardson ruled there is probable cause for the charge against Sayyed.

Police Killed Woman After She Shot Husband at Car Crash Scene, Authorities Say

NORFOLK, Va. — A police officer fatally shot a woman after she shot and wounded her husband at the scene of a car crash, authorities in Virginia said Tuesday.

Virginia State Police said that 25-year-old India N. Nelson had been in a domestic dispute with her husband on Monday in Norfolk. At about 7:10 that evening, she and her husband were driving separate cars when they crashed into each other near a gate at Norfolk Naval Station, CBS affiliate WTKR-TV reports.

After Norfolk police responded and began to investigate, state police said Nelson shot her husband. Authorities said a Norfolk police officer then “engaged the woman and returned fire.”

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband was in critical condition. He has not been identified…

The Troubling US Post-Prison Experiment to ‘Rehabilitate’ An ISIS Supporter

When a young man from Minnesota’s Somali community who admitted trying to join ISIS appeared for sentencing in November, the judge made him an offer: avoid more prison time and participate in an experimental “terrorist rehabilitation.”

But two months ago Abdullahi Yusuf, 21, was back before the judge charged with violating the terms of his probation after watching a news documentary about western ISIS fighters in a halfway house where he is confined.

Critics say Yusuf’s troubles underscore the limits of trying to rehabilitate wanna-be terrorists in the U.S.

“Terrorist rehab is a joke and a total waste of U.S. taxpayer dollars,” said Col. James Williamson, who founded the group OPSEC that advocates for U.S. Special Forces.

‘It Wasn’t No Collision it Was a Fire Bomb’: Explosive May Have Led to Truck Catching on Fire

A truck fire that sent four people to hospital over the weekend may have been caused by an explosive.

Neighbours heard people screaming and saw a burst of flames on Saturday night. A truck carrying four people caught on fire on Gallagher Avenue. The driver crashed into a fire hydrant in a residential neighbourhood.

But it appears the collision may not be the cause of the blaze that sent the four occupants to hospital with serious burns. Nick Chastellaine said his girlfriend, cousin and friend were in the truck.

“My cousin is traumatized and I believe my girlfriend is going to be too,” said Chastellaine.

Chastellaine said his girlfriend found a backpack on the hood of another car in a nearby convenience store parking lot. He said she took the backpack inside the truck, they began to drive away, and

that’s when he said disaster struck, and that some sort of explosive was inside the bag.

“She went and grabbed it and they drove around the corner, I guess she went to go look inside and it just engulfed in flames inside, it wasn’t no collision it was a fire bomb,” said Chastellaine.

Police won’t say what caused the fire and won’t say whether a backpack was involved. Police did acknowledge that this is not a case about a car hitting a fire hydrant.

“This is now being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit so there are obviously complexities to this case, it goes without saying it’s not just a motor vehicle collision,” said Const. Rob Carver.

Police Confirm Truck Fire Was Caused by Explosive

Winnipeg Police say a bomb caused a truck fire over the weekend that sent four people to hospital with severe burns.

Police confirm an Improvised Explosive Device known as an IED was accidentally detonated inside the cab of the vehicle.

Two men aged 22 and 27, a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old male youth were injured.

The 27-year-old man and 20-year old woman were transported to hospital in critical condition.

Police officials say the IED was inside a bag on the hood of another vehicle in a parking lot. One of the victims moved the bag into the truck but they were not the intended targets.

They also say the individual who brought the bag to the parking lot likely did not know it contained the device.

Police say there is a sense of concern because a bomb went off in a residential neighbourhood but don’t believe there is an ongoing threat. The service can’t say if someone was targeted but don’t believe this was intended to do random harm.

However, they say the IED was designed for “maximum intent.”

The Major Crimes and Bomb Units are investigating.

Are Salafists Taking Control Over Tatar Mosque in Warsaw?

On Tuesday morning a fight broke between Tatars, living in Poland since 14th century as minority, representing Muslim Religious Associations (MZR) and supporters of imam Nizar Charif, Salafists — Muslim fundamentalists and converts. Several police vehicles were directed to the mosque.

The background of the dispute is control over the mosque belonging to MZR, the oldest Polish Muslim organization established by Tatar minority, fully integrated into Polish society.

“It cannot be that in a Polish mosque things over which we can loose control are happening. It is a center of MZR and it comes under mufti and Highest Muslim Collegium”, explains in an interview with euroislam.pl Musa Chachorowski, MZR’s speaker. “It has to function according to rules, that are agreed between Polish state and MZR, nearly 100 years ago”, continues relating to the bill between Polish State and MZR from 1936 regulating structure of MZR and relations between religion and state.

But what exactly concerns MZR that mufti tried to intervene? “Perhaps some, overzealous persons are of opinion that they cannot function according to the Polish law as Muslims, as if the Polish law obliged them i.e. to drink vodka, eat pork or watch naked dancers”, says Czachorowski.

In the past three years the mosque indeed has been visited by some Salafi preachers, starting from aggrandized visit of Mission Dawah from the United Kingdom.

There were also attempts by German Salafists, led by Salafi preacher Sven Lau, to export Salafi Islam to Poland…

Netanyahu said he was “honoured to be the first Israeli sitting prime minister to have an official visit to Hungary” in a joint press conference with Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told the assembled media that previous Hungarian governments had “sinned” when they failed to protect the country’s Jewish population during the Second World War, and that he had “made it clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that the government will secure the Jewish minority and that we have zero tolerance to anti-Semitism.”…

Vatican Court Indicts Ex-Bambino Gesù Chiefs

‘Used funds to do up Bertone apartment’

(ANSA) — Vatican City, July 13 — The Vatican court on Thursday indicted former Bambino Gesù Hospital Foundation President Giuseppe Profiti and ex-treasurer Massimo Spina for allegedly using foundation funds to pay for improvements to the luxury apartment of former Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. “The Vatican is determined to go all the way” in the case, said Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The first hearing will be on July 18, the Vatican press room said. The pair are charged with using 422,000 euros “for completely extra-institutional purposes” in restructuring Bertone’s central Roman flat.

Unveiling the misappropriation probe against Profiti and Spina last year, the Vatican said it was in connection with expensive renovations to the penthouse apartment inhabited by Bertone.

Vatican Spokesman Greg Burke said the probe began after allegations that the work was paid for by the foundation linked to the Bambino Gesu’ pediatric hospital in Rome, confirming an earlier report by L’Espresso news magazine.

The hospital operates in the Italian national health system but is owned and managed by the Holy See.

Cardinal Bertone is not under investigation, Burke added.

L’Espresso said in its report that the Vatican had launched a probe into the funding scandal after journalist Emiliano Fittipaldi documented alleged lavish spending by clergymen in his controversial 2015 expose’ book, Avarice.

Fittipaldi was acquitted in a trial in the Vatican along with another journalist in the so-called Vatileaks 2 case last year involving the alleged leaking of confidential Vatican documents.

A Vatican former PR expert, Francesca Chaouqui, got a suspended sentence while a Vatican official said to be the chief leaker, Mons. Lucio Vallejo Balda, got 18 months.

“Pope Francis’ judges have already found evidence documenting how the renovations to the apartment were paid for by the Bambin(o) Gesu’ pediatric hospital foundation,” Fittipaldi wrote in the article.

L’Espresso claimed the renovations cost a total of just over 422,000 euros and were billed not to the contractor — the now-bankrupt Castelli Re — but to a London-based holding company controlled by Gianantonio Bandera, the owner of Castelli Re and Bertone’s personal friend.

“The money destined for sick children was in actuality used for the renovations and then sent on to London,” Fittipaldi wrote.

“In addition to the seven invoices paid to the builder out of the Foundation’s accounts at the Institute for Religious Works (IOR) and the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See (APSA), Pope Francis’ magistrates also have signed letters nailing Benedict XVI’s former secretary of state to his responsibilities,” L’Espresso continued.

The magazine said it was in possession of correspondence between Profiti and Bertone suggesting the manager offered to pay for the renovations through the foundation in exchange for hosting “institutional meetings” in the penthouse apartment, and that the cardinal accepted the offer the following day.

“Bertone’s name is not cited in the magistrates’ document but the Holy See will find it hard to overlook his direct involvement in the scandal,” L’Espresso said.

The cardinal has denied any wrongdoing.

“(The cardinal) reiterates he never indicated or authorized the Bambin Gesu’ Foundation to make any payment in relation to the apartment he occupies,” his lawyer Michele Gentiloni Silverj said in a statement.

The note echoed denials made at the time of the revelations in autumn 2015.

“I used my savings,” Bertone wrote in Genoa-based Catholic weekly Il Cittadino last November.

“I have the paperwork to prove I paid roughly 300,000 euros to the Vatican governorate from my own account.

“I later discovered that the Bambin Gesu’ Foundation had made a contribution for the same purpose,” he continued.

“I rule out having ever given indication or authorised the foundation to make any payment,” the cardinal said.

Cardinal Bertone also denied living in luxury.

“The apartment measures 296 square metres and I don’t live there on my own. I live with a community of nuns who help me,” the prelate told Corriere della Sera newspaper at the time.

Slovenia and Croatia Are Still Divided on Borders

Unsuccessful bilateral meeting ahead of Trieste summit

(ANSA) — LUBIANA — Unsuccessful meeting between Slovenia and Croatia to resolve the issue of the borders between the two countries, which took place in Ljubljana — attended by both ministers — ahead of the Trieste Summit on the Western Balkans.

“Slovenia is willing to talk, but intends to comply with the verdict issued by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in the Hague”, said Slovenia’s Prime Minister Miro Cerar, at the press conference held after the meeting. Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic reiterated that Croatia “does not recognise the Court’s verdict, sharing the choice made by his predecessors (ex-premier Zoran Milanovi) to withdraw from the arbitration process” after a telephone tapping in summer 2015 revealed unlawful co-operation between Slovenian court judge and the envoy from Ljubljana, Simona Drenik. Despite the cordial collaborative tone and the relaxed atmosphere of the talks, both parties are far from finding a solution, even though they remain open to further discussion.

Plenkovic invited Cerar to visit Zagreb, so as to continue the dialogue on this and all the other bilateral issues still open. The verdict issued on June 29 by the PCA has in fact ratified the land borders along the river Dragonja, as well as the sea borders, allocating almost the entire Piran Bay to Slovenia.

Thanks to a 10 nautical-mile long sea corridor (width, 2.5 miles), Slovenia will have direct access to international waters without passing through the Croatian ones, while Zagreb has lost direct contact with Italian waters, since in the rest of the Adriatic Sea the two countries are separated by international waters.

‘I Don’t Want to Leave the House by Myself’: The Melbourne Suburbs So Addled by Gang Crime That Women Are Afraid to Go Outside on Their Own

Women in some Melbourne suburbs are too terrified to leave home alone as marauding gangs of violent criminals run amok.

As gang members commit armed robberies, violent assaults and home invasions with impunity, families in Melbourne’s crime-ridden western suburbs are moving out.

They say suburbs like Werribee have become too dangerous to raise children, leaving them with no choice but to leave their communities.

‘It’s getting more like a trouble zone… with the refugees moving in, it’s getting hairy,’ she said.

EU in Crisis: Austria Threatens to Close Border as Italy Considers Handing Migrant Visas

THE European Union is at breaking point as Austria threatens to shut its borders in response to Italy considering granting migrants visas to travel the bloc.

Austrian ministers have hit out over the Italian proposal, with the Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka branding the plans “unacceptable”.

Italy is considering issuing temporary visas to allow migrants to travel around the EU, in a calculated move intended to pressure its EU neighbours to do more to help ease the migration crisis.

But during a visit to the Austrian-Italian border, and a furious Mr Sobotka declared Austria would have no qualms in installing border controls at key locations.

Italy in Crisis as Vote to Grant Migrant Children Citizenship Delayed Amid Public Backlash

THE migrant crisis is causing huge unrest among Italians putting decisions by the Government into doubt.

The Italian government has been calling on the European Union to do more to help the country as it struggles to deal with the thousands of migrants who land on its shores every day.

But failure to secure more aid has caused the public to turn against the establishment.

And the Italian government has now delayed a vote to grant migrant children born in the country citizenship, fearing tensions will boil over.

Vienna Told to Tone it Down After Brenner Closure Threat

Italy not taking unilateral action — Deputy minister Giro

(ANSA) — Rome, July 18 — Deputy Foreign Minister Mario Giro said Tuesday that Italy had “no intention of conducting unilateral moves” on the migrant crisis and said that Vienna should “tone things down”. Austrian Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka was quoted by Bild as saying Tuesday that Vienna was ready to close its border with Italy at the Brenner Pass within a day if migrant arrivals get too high. The tension comes after the Sunday Times reported Italy was considering giving 200,000 migrants humanitarian visas to travel in Europe — a report denied by Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano.

Giro told ANSA in a telephone conversation that relations between States should not be endangered by “pre-election polemics”. Austria is holding elections on October 16. He described the threat to close the Brenner Pass as “surreal”.

“There is no increase in the number of migrants, as they have said themselves several times,” Giro told ANSA. Italy has requested more help from its EU partners, saying its ability to cope with the Mediterranean asylum-seeker crisis is at the limit.

It has proposed taking asylum seekers saved in the southern Mediterranean to ports in other EU states, not just Italy, but the idea has not won backing from other countries. At the weekend the European Commission and EU border agency Frontex approved a code of conduct drafted by Italy for ships run by non-governmental organisations rescuing migrants in the central Mediterranean off Libya. The code of conduct sets 11 rules. These include a ban on phoning “to facilitate the departure of boats carrying migrants”, the obligation to allow police aboard and a requirement to have a technical certification to carry out rescues. Those who refuse to sign the code may not get authorisation to access Italian ports.

The first rule is the “absolute prohibition” for humanitarian ships to enter Libyan waters, which can only be reached “if there is a clear danger for human life at sea”.

UNICEF said Monday the new code would endanger “very many lives, especially of children”.

We’re Not the European Fools! Italian MP Blasts EU for Abandoning Italy in Migrant Chaos

ITALIAN MP Luigi Di Maio lambasted the “selfish” EU for failing to help Italy in dealing with the thousands of migrants arriving in its ports.

The 5 Star Movement (M5S) member spoke critically about the decision to open an additional hotspot for arriving migrants in the international port of Civitavecchia, Rome.

“They’re opening up a hotspot for migrants. What does that mean? Another refugee camp there because Italy can no longer support landings in the southern ports, so we arrive to a port that is almost in front of Corse. Almost in front of French ports! “

While the decision was revoked earlier today in response to the widespread negative response from politicians and citizens alike, Di Maio did not shy away from blaming the EU for the current situation.

  1. Italian MP blaming Europe “We are not fools!” – yes you are.

Ever since 2015, the Czech Republic criticized Schengen border countries like Greece and Italy that if they do not guard Schengen borders, the whole free movement area might go into oblivion.

So tell me Mr. Italian fool, why don’t we hear about refugee ferry services in Spain, or in France, or in Greece – as much as we hear about the Italian refugee ferry service?

Who is supposed to show “solidarity” here?

    • Good points, but the leaders of the EU, the four previous US presidents, and the leaders of the non-Iron Curtain countries of Europe want open borders. They’re pro-Marxist, at best. Nationalism for them is haram.

  2. As an interim measure, I suggest the IDF be retained on a contractual basis to provide European security. My alternative suggestion is that Israel be brought into NATO as a full member.

    • I suspect they have their hands full already, already! (Sorry, couldn’t resist).

    • Europe has enough problems with Turkey, it doesn’t need to expand into the middle east any more than it has already. It and NATO should cast Turkey out.
NATO should actually disband but that’s another issue.

      • The very notion of Turkish NATO membership is absurd. My personal absurd preference is the complete restoration of historical Christendom, with reparations.

  3. …I suggest the IDF be retained on a contractual basis to provide European security. My alternative suggestion is that Israel be brought into NATO as a full member.

Both ideas would be equally popular with Antisemitic EU apparatchiks.

Not least because of their effectiveness.

  4. I realise this is a childishly obvious suggestion – the sort one would expect a seven-year-old to come up with – but why does the EU not pick up these migrant boats and take them back to Libya rather than across to Italy? Even the UN admits that only a miniscule percentage of them are genuine refugees; I have yet to see anyone other than a military-age male on the boats. The EU should be running a blockade, not a ferry service.

It seems to me that if you are besieged by hungry rats you would be well advised to shut your doors. Unfortunately, these days in the West, making a value judgement is deemed wicked rather than wise. Everyone must be considered perfectly satisfactory and wonderful in their own way.* This fear of judging is perhaps one of the root causes that the Baron discusses in his recent article The Core Problem.

    * Apart from conservatives of course. Perhaps therein lies the solution – convince the witless Europeans that the migrants will vote Conservative.
