The European Parliament has lifted the immunity of Marine Le Pen due to images she tweeted of Islamic State atrocities back in 2015. Ms. Le Pen, the leader of the Front National and the front-runner in the French presidential election, may face prosecution for her publication of those images.

Meanwhile, police raided the home of François Fillon, the French presidential candidate for the Conservatives. Mr. Fillon is under investigation for possible corruption and nepotism. There are rumors that he will be replaced as candidate by former Prime Minister Alain Juppé.

In other news, an American war correspondent named Tim Pool said he was escorted by police out of Rinkeby — a culturally enriched suburb of Stockholm — because the area was unsafe. Mr. Pool was visiting Rinkeby as part of his investigation of migrant violence in Europe. Swedish police officials dispute his account of events.

Poverty in Greece Gone Up 40% Since 2008

The poverty in Greece increased by 40% from 2008 to 2015, according to a Cologne Institute of Economic Research study on European economy.

The study is not based on low income alone but on other factors as well, such as the deprivation of material goods, low quality education, underemployment and limited access to healthcare.

All the above factors are used in a new “multidimensional poverty index” according to which the Institute has conducted the survey for the years 2008-2015.

After a stunning loss in 2016, Democrats have spent much of 2017 arguing over who is to blame for the fiasco (refusing to accept that they themselves screwed up) and trying to figure out how to move the party forward.

One of the issues that scares many Democrats is a movement to get Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to form his own third party, The Washington Times reported.

Sanders, a self-described independent socialist who ran a surprisingly strong race for the Democrat presidential nomination, has millions of followers, many of whom hate the Democrat Party and see it as grossly corrupt. Should he break away from the party, many of them likely would follow him.

College Expels Disabled Male Student Who Says He Was Raped by Woman, Fires Dad for Complaining

Drake University in Iowa has fired a trustee board member after expelling his disabled son, who alleged he was the victim of a rape by a female student.

According to a federal lawsuit, Tom Rossley, who had been on Drake’s board for 23 years, accused the college of failing to accommodate his son’s “ADHD, anxiety, and language-based learning disabilities” in the university’s sexual-assault investigation.

Drake dismissed allegations raised by the son, who claimed that a female student who had accused him of rape actually initiated the sex while he was incapacitated, the College Fix reports.

GOP Wants to Eliminate Shadowy DOJ Slush Fund Bankrolling Leftist Groups

Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton told Fox News. “It’s a shakedown. It’s corrupt, pure and simple.”

The Obama administration funneled billions of dollars to activist organizations through a Department of Justice slush fund scheme, according to congressional investigators.

“It’s clear partisan politics played a role in the illicit actions that were made,” Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, told Fox News. “The DOJ is the last place this should have occurred.”

Findings spearheaded by the House Judiciary Committee point to a process shrouded in secrecy whereby monies were distributed to a labyrinth of nonprofit organizations involved with grass-roots activism.

“Advocates for big government and progressive power are using the Justice Department to extort money from corporations,” Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton told Fox News. “It’s a shakedown. It’s corrupt, pure and simple.”

Sessions Announces Recusal From Russia-Related Probes, Denies Misleading Congress

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Thursday he will recuse himself from “any existing or future investigations” regarding the 2016 presidential campaign, while pushing back forcefully on allegations he misled Congress in past statements about contacts with Russia.

The attorney general held a press conference as he sought to calm the political firestorm over revelations he spoke twice with Russia’s ambassador last year despite telling senators during his confirmation hearing he had no “communications” with Moscow.

Sessions defended his answer as “honest and correct,” suggesting he was referring only to discussions about the campaign.

“I never had meetings with Russian operatives or Russian intermediaries about the Trump campaign,” he said.

A radical group linked to rogue billionaire George Soros has been providing scripts containing anti-Trump talking points for constituents to read aloud during congressional town hall meetings.

One of the scripts distributed by the Revolutionary Love Project encourages town hall participants meeting with their member of Congress to accuse the Trump administration of — wait for it — “xenophobia, racism, and Islamophobia.” Constituents are urged to use those precise words to “forcefully condemn” President Trump’s immigration and border security initiatives, Aaron Klein reports at Breitbart News.

Montreal Man Charged With Terror Hoax After Bomb Threat Targeting Muslim University Students

Psychological assessment ordered for Hisham Saadi, 47, arrested early Thursday morning in Côte-des-Neiges

Hisham Saadi, 47, has been charged with carrying out a hoax regarding terrorist activity, uttering threats and mischief in connection with the Concordia University bomb threat Wednesday.

Saadi appeared in a Montreal courtroom via video link on Thursday afternoon.

He has been ordered to undergo a psychological assessment prior to his bail hearing, scheduled for Friday.

Saadi was arrested around 1:30 a.m. ET Thursday after officers, including members of the force’s tactical and canine units, descended on an apartment on Darlington Avenue near Goyer Street in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood, said Const. Benoit Boisselle.

The operation came a day after three buildings at Concordia’s busy downtown campus were evacuated. A letter saying explosive devices were placed in various areas of the school was sent to a number of Montreal media outlets, including CBC News…

Authorities Detain Suspect in Brussels Who Drove Car With Canisters

The man detained in Brussels on Thursday driving a car filled with gas canisters had been convicted in a 2016 terror trial, state broadcaster RTBF reported.

The man, who has not been identified, was convicted during a mass trial of suspects involved in the “Zerkani” terror recruiting network, according to RTBF. Some of those involved in the network had participated in the March 2016 Brussels attacks and the November 2015 Paris attacks.

The detention on Thursday set off a security alert in the center of Brussels, closing off a busy part of the capital and a subway station during the evening rush hour, the prosecutor’s office said.

Belgium: Nightly Curfew in Molenbeek District

The Mayor of Molenbeek, Françoise Schepmans, is introducing a nightly curfew in the area around the Beekkant metro station. Under the ban gatherings of more than three people between the hours of 9PM and 5AM are banned. The measure that takes effect in the middle of the month is intended to stop youngsters who are causing trouble hanging around in the neighbourhood.

The mayor is introducing the curfew following talks with police, the Brussels transport company and the local housing company. The move comes after local residents complained about growing verbal and physical aggression and drug dealing. The local housing company has agreed to improve lighting, install CCTV and hire more staff to keep the area tidy.

The curfew is being introduced for three months. People flouting the ban risk a fine of up to 350 euros.

Catalans Prepare Vote for Independence From Spain

Catalonia is organizing the logistics for a referendum on independence from Spain it plans to hold by the end of September, even if it goes against the wishes of the national government, the Catalan government’s foreign policy chief said.

“We are now preparing the referendum because … either in an agreed way or not, we need to be ready,” Raul Romeva said on Thursday at the Catalan regional government’s representative office in London.

The wealthy northeastern region, which has its own language and culture, is home to a strong separatist movement, which has been intensified by high unemployment and austerity cuts in Spain. But attempts to hold a Scottish-style referendum on independence have been blocked in the courts by Madrid.

EU Parliament Strips Le Pen of Immunity Over ‘Shameful’ ISIS Tweets

The European Parliament on Thursday lifted French far-right leader Marine Le Pen’s immunity from prosecution over her tweeting of images of Islamic State atrocities.

Lawmakers voted by a “big majority” to deprive Le Pen of her immunity in the case, launched by French prosecutors in 2015, acting parliament speaker Dimitrios Papadimoulis said.

French prosecutors opened an investigation in December 2015 into the graphic series of tweets by National Front leader Le Pen, which included a photo of the decapitated body of US reporter James Foley.

On Tuesday the legal committee of the European Parliament backed a request by the prosecutors for Le Pen’s immunity as a member of the EU’s only elected assembly to be lifted, officials told AFP.

“This only shows French citizens what the EU is, what the European Parliament is and that it’s all part of the system that wants to stop the French people’s candidate that I am,” the anti-EU candidate said in response to the move.

EU Parliament Lifts Le Pen’s Immunity Over Grisly ISIS Photos

European Union lawmakers overwhelmingly voted on Tuesday to lift the EU parliamentary immunity of French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen for tweeting violent images of the Islamic State (IS) group.

The offence being considered is “publishing violent images,” which under certain circumstances can carry a penalty of three years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros ($79,650).

European Parliament Votes to Censor Politically Incorrect Speech

Worried by the rise of nationalist parties that threaten the very existence of the European Union (EU), the European Parliament (EP) has quietly amended its internal rules to enable the silencing of “racist” speech within its hallowed halls.

The rule change, which passed in December, allows the president of the EP to “interrupt the live broadcasting of” a parliamentary debate “in the case of defamatory, racist or xenophobic language or behavior by a member.” Furthermore, it gives the president the power to “delete” said incident “from the audiovisual record of the proceedings,” consigning it to the memory hole unless a journalist happens to be present to report on it. Offenders may be fined up to $9,500.

Conveniently, the rule doesn’t define what constitutes “defamatory, racist or xenophobic language or behavior,” leaving it to the president’s discretion, although the EP Bureau, which consists of the president and 14 vice presidents, must review the decision within four weeks.

The Paris home of France’s conservative presidential candidate Francois Fillon has been raided by investigators, French media report.

The search was part of an investigation into an allegedly fake job given to his wife. He denies any wrongdoing.

Mr Fillon has vowed to continue his presidential campaign, despite growing pressure for him to step down.

He was once seen as the favourite to win the election but his poll ratings have dropped since the scandal emerged.

FRANCOIS Fillon’s election campaign has received a potentially fatal blow as French ministers have declared their intention to support a former French prime minister instead of his scandal-ridden campaign.

Sources close to Alain Juppé, the French prime minister from 1995 to 1997, told the French newspaper Liberation that the former leader has considered being a “plan B” for the Republicans party as Fillon’s crisis has “deepened”.

Other allies informed the Telegraph yesterday that Mr Juppé, the current mayor of Bordeaux, was “ready but loyal” to become the Republicans candidate, but will only do so if asked.

Germany: Outcry After Muslim Students Told Not to ‘Pray Provocatively’ At School

A high school in the western city of Wuppertal has come under fire after a letter was circulated stating that teachers should take down names of Muslim students found praying at school.

The letter was reportedly sent be school administration to teachers and later shared on Facebook, according to Der Westen on Wednesday.

“In the last few weeks, it has increasingly been observed that Muslim students are praying, quite visibly to others, indicated by ritual washing in the bathrooms, the rolling out of prayer rugs, and by the students putting their bodies in certain positions. That is not permitted,” the letter stated.

Germany: Bag Ban at Cologne Cathedral Leaves Visitors Seething

Authorities at Germany’s most iconic church brought in a ban on bags for security reasons on Wednesday. But visitors arriving from the adjacent train station are far from pleased.

On Wednesday Cologne Cathedral brought in stricter security rules for visitors, meaning that no one is allowed to enter the church’s huge interior with a suitcase, a travel bag or a rucksack.

The measures have been justified as a response to a heightened terror threat in Germany.

Over the past 12 months, the country has been hit by several terror attacks, the worst of which killed 12 people in December in Berlin.

(ANSA) — Rome, March 2 — Tiziano Renzi, the father of ex-premier Matteo Renzi, said Thursday that he has nothing to hide and was ready to be questioned by investigators in relation to a probe into alleged corruption at civil-service procurement agency CONSIP.

As judicial sources said he would be questioned on Friday, Tiziano Renzi, who is under investigation in the probe, said: “I never asked for money. I never took money. Never. “And I think that the magistrates have all the instruments to verify this. I can’t wait for the truth to come out. I want to be questioned. I want them to verify everything about me. I have nothing to hide. Nothing”. He added: “I never had secret meetings in grubby diners,” as reported in the press. Renzi said “I feel like I’m living in a nightmare” and said “when it ends I hope it gets the very same prominence in the media”.

L’Espresso magazine says in its issue to be published Sunday that Renzi and former Berlusconi aide Denis Verdini “exerted pressure” on CONSIP CEO Luigi Marroni, who reported this to police. According to papers released Wednesday, Tiziano Renzi and pharmaceuticals businessman Carlo Russo “got promises of money” as monthly payments from Alfredo Romeo, the high-profile Campanian businessman arrested in the CONSIP probe.

The payments were allegedly for exerting influence over Marroni, an acquaintance of the elder Renzi’s, the papers said.

Romeo was arrested and taken to jail early on Wednesday over the alleged corruption linked to CONSIP.

Judicial sources said Thursday he will be questioned on Monday.

Romeo has “a network of institutional connections at a very high level” which he uses “in an unscrupulous way to steer the actions of the civil service to his advantage,” a judge said in the arrest warrant.

Investigators also seized assets worth around 100,000 euros from a CONSIP official, Marco Gasparri, money that allegedly stems from bribes from Romeo, sources said. Carabinieri and finance police also conducted a series searches related to Italo Bocchino, a former lawmaker for the now-defunct centre-right People of Freedom Party (PdL).

As well as Tiziano Renzi, Sports Minister Luca Lotti is under investigation in the probe too.

Lotti, seen as Matteo Renzi’s right-hand man, said Wednesday he was “extremely relaxed” regarding the probe.

All those involved have denied wrongdoing.

Italy: Verdini Gets 9 Years in CCF Bank Case

Former Berlusconi aide involved in Florentine bank bankruptcy

(ANSA) — Florence, March 2 — Former Berlusconi aide Denis Verdini was sentenced Thursday to nine years in jail for his part in the bankruptcy of the Credito Cooperativo Fiorentino (CCF) bank. The sentence also carried a life ban from holding public office.

Verdini’s lawyers said he would appeal.

“We are ready to fight,” they said.

Prosecutors had asked 11 years for Verdini, who now leads an independent centre-right group, ALA, which backs the Democratic Party-led centre-left-centre-right government. ALA said the verdict was “the umpteenth political sentence seen in recent years”.

The premier’s office was awarded a provisional 2.5 million euros in damages in the case.

Verdini has also been named, but is not under investigation, in a new probe into graft at the civil service procurement agency CONSIP.

The market expanded by 6.17% while FCA sales were 6.9% up, giving it a market share of 29.2%, up from 29.01%.

Pakistan: Muslims Hail UK Jihad Murderer of “Blasphemer” As Hero

When Tanveer Ahmed was sentenced to a minimum of 27 years in jail for murder last August, Judge Lady Rae said he had committed a “brutal, barbaric and horrific crime”.

Bloody Islamic State Video Puts China in Cross Hairs

Islamic State militants from China’s Uygur ethnic minority have vowed to return home and “shed blood like rivers”, according to a jihadi-tracking firm, in what observers said marked the first IS threat against Chinese targets.

The threat came in a half-hour video released on Monday by a division of Islamic State in western Iraq, and featuring militants from China’s Uygur ethnic group, said the US-based SITE Intelligence Group, which analysed the footage.

Poly Technologies showed off The Silent Hunter, one of the world’s most powerful laser weapons. It claims an output of at least 50-70 kilowatts, which would make it more powerful than the 33-kilowatt laser weapon systems (LaWS) currently deployed on the USS Ponce. The laser is probably based on a smaller anti-drone laser, the Low Altitude Guard. That’s enough to knock out automobiles by burning out their engines from over a mile away, as the 30-kilowatt Lockheed Martin ATHENA laser demonstrated in 2015. The Silent Hunter uses fibre optic lasers (fibre optics doped with rare earth minerals), which provide weight savings over chemical lasers through increasing optical gain by kilometers of coiled fibre optics (as opposed to bulky chemical lasers). The Silent Hunter is likely to be scaled up and equipped with radars to complement its optical/infrared tracking system, making it a capable close range defense system against enemy missiles, artillery, drones and aircraft.

The Silent Hunter laser is powerful enough to cut through light vehicle armor at up to a kilometer away, making you wonder if China already has more powerful laser weapons only for domestic use.

We Found a Hidden Backdoor in Chinese Internet of Things Devices — Researchers

IoT devices from a Chinese vendor contain a hidden backdoor that the vendor is refusing to fix, according to security researchers.

The backdoor was discovered in almost all devices produced by VoIP specialist dbltek, and appears to have been purposefully built in for use by the vendor, according to security firm TrustWave. The firm says that it followed a responsible disclosure process, but claims the vendor responded only with modifications that leave the backdoor open.

Trustwave claims the vendor then cut off contact with it. The security firm says it has since been able to write exploits that open both the old and new backdoors.

The vulnerable firmware is present in almost all dbltek GSM-to-VoIP devices, a range of equipment mostly used by small to medium size businesses, it claims. Trustwave researchers claimed they had found hundreds of vulnerable devices on the internet.

Mexican drug cartels are fueling the heroin epidemic that is sweeping the United States, according to the director of the FBI.

Addressing an audience of local residents and public safety officials at an opioid summit in suburban Virginia on Wednesday, James Comey said cartels are continuing to saturate the country with waves of “highly, highly pure” heroin.

Nicaraguan Woman Thrown Into Fire During Exorcism, Dies

Austria Set to Stop Supporting Rejected Asylum Seekers

Austrian Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka has announced the government will stop providing failed asylum seekers with food and shelter to encourage them to leave.

The Austrian grand coalition of the Socialist Party (SPÖ) and Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) announced new measures to tackle the issue of rejected asylum seekers who remain in the country. Denmark: Protesters Block Roskilde Airport to Stop Afghan Deportation

Around 50 pro-refugee activists have blocked the entrance at Denmark’s Roskilde Airport to prevent the expulsion of ten rejected Afghan asylum seekers.

The group Refugees Welcome to Denmark said it aimed to employ the passive resistance techniques made famous by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to prevent the refugees boarding the plane chartered by the Danish government to take them to Kabul.

“We will do everything in our power to ensure that they can not get into the airport. We are determined to sit and passively resist,” Søren Warburg, the group’s spokesman, told Politiken newspaper. “We are not going to move aside even when ordered to.”

Eight Iraqi nationals are set to spend up to 13 years in prison after a court in Austria Thursday convicted them of gang-raping a German tourist in the early hours of New Year’s Day more than a year ago.

The Iraqis, aged between 22 and 48, arrived in Austria as migrants between May and December 2015. Five received refugee status.

Germany Arrests 2 Syrian Extremist Suspects

German authorities have arrested two Syrians suspected of being members of the extremist Nusra Front, one of whom allegedly was involved in the slaying of dozens of civilians.

The federal prosecutor’s office said Thursday that 35-year-old Abdalfatah H.A. is suspected of war crimes over the killing of 36 Syrian government employees by his unit in March 2013. The statement says he carried out “so-called Shariah death sentences.”

A spokeswoman for the prosecutors’ office, Frauke Koehler, declined to confirm German media reports that the man came to Germany as an asylum-seeker.

The other suspect, 26-year-old Abdulrahman A.A., belonged to the same combat unit as Abdalfatah H.A. and both participated in an armed battle against Syrian government troops, including taking over a big arms depot near Mahin in November 2013.

Muslim Asylum Seeker Jailed for Life for Killing ‘Infidel’ Landlady in Germany

A MUSLIM asylum seeker has been sentenced to life behind bars after he smashed his landlady over the head with a phone before strangling her to death with its cable.

The man, identified only as Abubaker C, was convicted of murder which was described as being religiously motivated after he stated he considered her to be an “infidel”.

Judges in the courthouse of Heilbronn, a city in the south-western German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, found the 27-year-old Pakistani asylum seeker guilty of brutally killing his landlady, a 70-year-old woman named only as Maria M.

He carried out the attack on the pensioner as she slept in a spare room, having moved out of her own bedroom because of her husband’s snoring problem in the home they shared in the town of Bad Friedrichshall.

One in Six Norwegians Has Immigrant Background

One out of six Norwegians has an immigrant background, new data from Statistics Norway showed on Thursday, while also noting that the Nordic country in 2016 received the lowest percentage increase of immigrants in 15 years.

Last year, a total of 26,400 people immigrated to Norway, representing an annual rise of 3.8 percent — the lowest percentage increase since 2002. In all, the nation of just over five million now has 884,000 inhabitants with immigrant background.

Statistics Norway, which defines people with immigrant background as either having immigrated to the country themselves or to have been born in Norway to immigrant parents, said that although the biggest growth is now seen among Syrians, people with Polish origins remain the largest group with immigrant background, totaling 97,200 people.

Target Teetering on the Brink of Financial Collapse

The boycott against Target over its bathroom policy is costing the retailer more than anybody expected, as a record share price plunge and weak sales drive the big-box retailer to the brink of financial collapse.

In April last year after Target announced that it would welcome transgender customers to use any bathroom or fitting room that matched their gender identity.

Since then a determined grassroots boycott campaign has dug its heels in, and the company is having trouble hiding the financial damage.

Target’s already disappointing stock price plunged a further 13 percent in early trading on Tuesday, putting the embattled retailer on pace for its worst day in almost twenty years and dragging the company dangerously close to the financial abyss.

Target also reported sales and earnings that missed Wall Street’s expectations, in what was a devastating holiday quarter for the big-box retailer.

Target’s dismal outlook for fiscal 2017 has industry experts warning if results don’t turn around — and soon — the company will go to the wall.

Wales: University Bans Phrases Such as ‘Right-Hand Man’ And ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ In Favour of Gender-Neutral Terms

A university has banned phrases such as “right-hand man” and “gentleman’s agreement” under its code of practice on inclusive language.

Cardiff Metropolitan University’s guidance dictates that “gender-neutral” terms should be used where possible, adding that students should not allow their “cultural background” to affect their choice of words.

It advises that the terms “forefathers”, “mankind” and “sportsmanship” should be avoided, as part of efforts to “embrace cultural diversity” through language.

    I actually feel like I’m back in time to the “Cabaret” of the Weimar Republic. People try to live out their lives in spite of the gathering storm, and adapt too well by trusting their government.     What other alternatives are there? None exist! The Spanish will must bend to that of the primitive.

        They seem to be spinning their wheels; on the one hand progress seems to be being made, but I have the feeling the le Pen, Wilders elections are not going to pan out as many obviously hope.

        Years ago I predicted to a friend that Germany would be the first to reach the tipping point and rebel–they still could in theory, as no other country has done so, or looks like doing so. Oh I know, Brexit; but the Brits are-as I predicted-no closer, only endless wrangling. (And May was a remainer)
