Martin Schulz Speaks Loudly and Carries a Little Stick

Martin Schulz, the president of the European Parliament, was featured here most recently for his notorious remarks in which he stated his intention of going around the national governments of EU member states to place refugees directly with cities having compliant left-wing municipal governments.

Now Mr. Schulz is issuing not-so-veiled threats against the Central European countries that are resisting the ukases from Brussels on migrant quotas. It’s not clear what sort of enforcement mechanism he will use — the European Commission, after all, is where the power resides. His plan seems to be to cut off subsidies to member states that refuse to cooperate with the migration policies dictated by Brussels.

Many thanks to CrossWare for translating this report from the Hungarian news portal 888.hu:

Martin Schulz thinks Germany has been betrayed and quotas are much needed

by Laszló Bertha

According to the president of European Parliament, Germany has been betrayed in the migration crisis and there is no such thing as not wanting to accept Muslims into one’s countries.

Martin Schulz gave an interview to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung and explained that Germany’s effort to solve migration problems is not “moral imperialism”, but the recognition that as the largest member state of the European Union it must also bear the largest burden.

The leftist politician believes that other member states betrayed Germany, and are saying that “Germany should bear the burden, as we have nothing to do with it.”

“This will not work, we need a European solution!” insisted the EP president.

Schulz said that in Germany many “hard working persons” believe they are carrying all the burdens on their shoulders alone and nobody cares about them. For that reason it is impossible that only a couple of member states should bear the entire load. Germany not only takes the lion’s share in migration issues but other areas, for example “the financial support of countries that keep aloof from European solutions to migration problems.”

The president of the European Parliament highlighted Poland, which receives €17 billion, part of which comes from Germany taxpayers, “and that is why we have to tell Poland and the other states that everything is connected with everything,” added the Social Democrat politician.

Martin Schulz confirmed Angela Merkel’s position that it is unacceptable if a member state refuses to accept Muslim refugees by stating that the country is Catholic or “strong enough”, or as the Hungarian prime minister said, “The migrant crisis is a German problem.”

The EP president emphasized that there is a need for a legal immigration system which operates with “quotas or contingents” which would hit human smugglers hard.

From the decision for the distribution of 160,000 migrants, based on a simple member state majority, he highlighted, “the decision is based on the existing EU rules and regulations, so it is valid, but some member states such as Poland and Hungary refuse to accept that, which amounts to questioning the fundamental principles of European policies.”

“We could close up shop,” if EU legislation were to be tied to parliamentary ratification by the member states, he commented about the Hungarian quota referendum, and he added that it was strange that exactly the same countries that feel they have nothing to do with the migration flood in Europe are those whose citizens most use the opportunities provided by the right to free movement and employment.

Martin Schulz commented on criticism of the EU, saying that people have no problem with “more European Union”, but with this type of Europe, and they want a “different type of Europe.”

  1. I remember the Berlin Air Lift. Actually, it was before my time, but I remember the history lesson of it.
I say we (America) throw complete support behind the countries that deny the EU “refugees”, and fly in anything they need, for as long as it takes. (Hungary, Slovakia, Poland) Of course we will have to cut off all funds to those countries that hate us, and haven’t learned to not bite our hand. Israel, of course will get uninterrupted support.
Oh wait, that was the old America.
Maybe if we get a real President, we can once again be the real America.

    • While we are at it; Let’s bring all our forces back from South Korea, and put them on our Southern border. Dump the UN, NATO, and smash OPEC. There is no reason we cannot reach out and touch North Korea, or anywhere else, from Kansas, at any time, other than the fact that our politicians are not willing to do it.
I don’t personally like Donald Trump, I think he’s a real estate salesman, but there is no reason I can think of to NOT make America great again.

      • Good luck with reaching out and touching North Korea. Whatever you do, don’t criticise the Dear Leader’s haircut!

  2. Let me just quote from Zsolt Bayer essay about “Frau Angela” which explains the situation in nice La Fontaine style:
    https://gatesofvienna.net/2016/08/keep-your-distance-from-the-hyenas/

Frau Angela has an unexplained and unquenchable love for hyenas. One day she brings a dozen of these wild animals into her house. She takes care of them, feeding them and petting them. Some gripping and lovely selfies are taken. Then one day when Frau Angela leaves home, the hyenas feed upon her family members. Her kids, husband and of course dear Granny. Upon returning home and seeing the horror, Frau Angela grieves over them, but when the neighbors trying to make a point by asking her why she brought hyenas into the house, she heatedly responds. She is outraged that anybody should suggest any correlation between the tragic demise of her loved ones and the presence of the hyenas. Anybody who makes such connections is an inept and short-sighted a*****e. Therefore she seizes the opportunity to ask her neighbors: instead of engaging in useless and unnecessary niggling, they should also accept hyenas into their homes.

  3. Baron, I object to your statement “the European Commission, after all, is where the power resides”
The EC has no power, all the power resides with the member states.
If the memberstates say “no” than it will be “no” period, no matter what the EC wants or says.
The entire EU is nothing but a paper producing organisation.
They have no income of their own and rely on handouts from the memberstates.
They have no army to enforce the law.
    They have no popular support.
If the memberstates were to decide “enough is enough” and pull the plug the entire structure would come crashing down, and they know it. Look at their reactions on Brexit.
It’s time to see the EU for what it realy is, a paper tiger.
    Wet paper at best.

    • I will revise your statement slightly to clarify the nature of power:

Stalin has no power, all the power resides with the Russian people.
If the Russian people say “no” then it will be “no” period, no matter what Stalin wants or says.
The entire Soviet Union is nothing but a paper-producing organisation.
They have no income of their own and rely on the labor of the Russian people.
      They have no popular support.
If the Russian people were to decide “enough is enough” and pull the plug the entire structure would come crashing down, and they know it.
It’s time to see the Soviet Union for what it really is, a paper tiger.
      Wet paper at best.

The main place my analogy fails is in your statement (which I omitted) “They have no army to enforce the law.”

The USSR obviously had an army and the KGB to enforce Soviet “law”.

However, the EUSSR has something even better than an army: the European Central Bank. It keeps the peasants in line, makes them obedient slaves, but invisibly, unlike the army. You, the ordinary tovarishch of the EU, keep your eye on financial incentives and disincentives. By rearranging those carefully, the Politburo in Brussels can get you to do whatever it wants, without firing a shot, without any jackboots and Black Marias, without your even realizing that you are under complete control.

Power is all about perception. When people wake up and realize that the Emperor has no clothes, the Emperor’s power instantly disappears, and his orders are futile.

That’s what happened to the USSR. And it may happen to the EU, when people realize what the ECB is doing. Or — more likely — when the ECB fails, which it inevitably will.

The same may be said, of course, for the Fed and the good ol’ USA.

  4. I’m sorry, Mr Schulz, your plans are flawed. Your fellow country woman Mrs Merkel decided to organize at home a big party, and invited many guests from Asian and African countries. As soon as she realised that the invited were too much, she thought ” hey, I’ll send some of them to the parties of my nice neighbours! ” Now she is offended because the neighbours refused. No, Mr Schulz, your plans and those of Mrs Merkel are not part of the common German rules of polite behavior.

  5. This post reflects everything that is wrong with the EU. Who gave Merkel the authority to commit the entire EU to the acceptance of islamic invaders?

  6. I ask this question quite seriously – why is it the likes of Saudi Arabia, who for all intents and purposes have similar customs and cultures, not stepping up to the plate or getting vilified?

    • Can’t speak to non-vilification, but they don’t want the “refugees” as they include jihadists who despise them. The Saudis, Qataris etc should know- they paid for them.

Why are there no arab troops in Syria?

    • I believe they are pleased. Pleased that their little Jihadis will be spreading the good book. After all, that is one of the tenets of Islam. Don’t prosthelytise by reason argument – use a sword to kill the men and enslave the women and turn them into baby factories. Its amazing what that can achieve! If you don’t believe me, look at what countries were Christian/Budhist/Hindu in 600 AD. Read some history, then look at those same countries now. Quod erat demonstrandum. Or… as my Grandchildren will be saying…
وهكذا يتجلى ذلك wahakadha yatajalla dhlk

    • Saudi-Arabia welcomes the hijra (jihad to capture new land for Islam by migration and out of control breeding) and there is no reason to have such thing into a Muslim country. That is why no migration happening to any of the Muslim countries. Turkey the exception but only because it is on the way to Europe.

  7. Martin Shulz undoubtedly crazed and maniacal, perhaps diabolical in his clear intent to change the face of Europe. Makes one wonder why he holds such an agenda and whether he has some sort of vendetta against EU people. A Catholic country such as Poland, which has so far stood to the evil will of Merkel, should not be forced to accept non-assimilatable Muslim migrants, many of who seek nothing but to usurp the system then defecate on its people!

    • According to Wikipedia, his favorite reading is the books of Eric Hobsbawm. Heaven help us all.

      • He is barely finished his elementary schools. No other education required for his present position…

  8. Martin Shulz undoubtedly crazed and maniacal, perhaps diabolical in his clear intent to change the face of Europe. 9. ‘“We could close up shop,” if EU legislation were to be tied to parliamentary ratification by the member states,……’

    Sounds like a good idea.

  10. I don’t seem to recall Poland nor Hungary sending out glowing& warm invites to migrants to come en masse. Then why should they have to be blackmailed into taking in quotas a la 5 years planning method by the EU politburo. Oups! I suppose that having that opinion means being a ‘populist’. Modern humanitarian is increasingly becoming the velvet glove of totalitarianism.

  11. How about this moronic little man take at least one sensible political decision before he finally disappears up his own fundamental orifice.

German senior constitutional judges declared Mutti Merkel’s actions as ILLEGAL many months ago when she declared the border of Germany and consequently the rest of Europe’s too.

Sanction the clearly insane, humourless hag, if you have any powers to do so, otherwise shut your trap, it is a Mainly German problem and we were first told that all this third word immigration consisted of rocket scientists,
Brain surgeons, Psychologists etc, however it turned out to be mainly 99%
Illiterates (in they own languages), (40yr old) children, aquatic would be rapists, petty thieves with a smattering of psychopaths and sociopaths!

No sane minded person wants ANY of these people within their borders, apart from the usual suspects, left wing luvvies, open border lunatics, the Gay communities, and of course politicians like your self.

You are concerned with a right wing populist back lash? Keep up with your current programme and you will surely reap a politic whirlwind!

  12. “other member states betrayed Germany”.

It is quite obvious that Germany (Granny Merkel) betrayed the whole of the EU by unilaterally declaring Germany is open to all. If the Germans want great numbers of immigrants they can have them, but don’t expect all other member states to alleviate the problems the Germans brought upon themselves.

    • Hell’s Angela is unable to become granny anyway, because she has no children. She just […] the German people…

  13. This is such BS and it stinks. Where is the rationality?

Germany has been betrayed, but it was Angela Merkel who betrayed Germany, not Hungary or Poland. To my knowledge and I realize I could be wrong, Hungary is not a member of the EU. Neither is Poland.

Please correct me on this if I am wrong.

    • Both Hungary and Poland is EU member states. Both wants the European Union to return to its roots and serve as an economical alliance. However just because they are members, they are not responsible Mama Merkel opening the floodgates unilaterally. She and her EU gang members now try to order everybody else to also bear the consequences of her personal decision.

  14. I am from ” his place” and we know, that Mr Schulz has or had a serious issue
WITHOUT alcohol. His physiognomie might show some of the devastating effects of abuse.

    • It seems like this is common theme in EU “leaders”. Jean-Claude Juncker is a well known alcoholic.

      • People need to manage their self-loathing, and alcohol is as solid a tool as any for doing so.

  15. So, let me get this right. The EU is a marvellous democracy. No dictator. Everything is decided by the member states. But….But…. There is a dichotomy here!!!! The member states did not vote to open the floodgates to the Muslim detritus, the flotsam and jetsom of 1300 years of utter failure, and the other hopefuls of Sub- Saharan Africa.
But suddenly, its “We must pull together” “It is an EU problem that demands an EU Solution” Double-think. I am living in Orwell’s 1984, if I believed in a God I would say God help us all.

  16. In the article, the Baron writes: “… to place refugees directly with cities having compliant left-wing municipal governments”.

May I draw your attention to something that the Left obviously believes in: world governance by city states. Use your favourite search engine for Global Mayors then show an interest in the results for Parliament, Convention, Compact, Federation, Forum. I believe it shows their intent to make an Agenda 21 home run round the outside of the nation states with their nationalistic(!) parliaments.

It seems to me that Schulz is well tuned in to this agenda, and is hoping to manipulate it to protect his chum Mutti Merkel.

    • PS: And then by accident I tumbled across the Inclusive City and the Global Infrastructure Initiative.
