UK Economy Booms Following Brexit Referendum Vote

The Bank of England admitted it saw “no evidence” of a sharp economic slowdown and the pound gained in strength as a result.

Positive job figures showing unemployment falling and record numbers in work were heralded by new Prime Minister Theresa May.

Average earnings in the year to May were up 2.3per cent, official figures revealed, and mortgage brokers reported a brisk trade from foreign investors…

Why Italy’s Banks Could Ignite a Eurozone Crisis

By William Watts

It wouldn’t be summer without Europe threatening to upend global financial markets. The looming threat this year comes from Italy and its long-suffering banking sector.

“As we trend into the second half of the year, the situation in Italy, and its spill over for the rest of Europe, will continue to be one of the biggest macro-political risks we are concerned about,” said Federico Santi, a London-based analyst at Eurasia Group, a risk consulting group, in a note.

The focus on Italy comes after the U.K. voted in late June to exit the European Union. In a worst-case scenario, analysts fear Italy’s bank problems could threaten the country’s membership in the eurozone…

‘Believe Me!’ Trump Vows to Fix America’s Crime, Immigration, Trade, Manufacturing Industry and Place in the World in Epic Acceptance Speech (And, Of Course, It Will All Happen Very Fast!)

Donald Trump made his bid for the presidency feel real on Thursday, urging Americans to propel him to the White House on a platform of crumpling up failing institutions and building new ones on the rubble.

Thousands of convention-goers cheered and shouted slogans: ‘USA! USA!’ and ‘Build that wall!’ — and a new one: ‘Yes you will!’ — as he read his script from a teleprompter and ad-libbed as he worked the crowd during the longest convention acceptance speech since 1972.

Entering to the theme song from the Harrison Ford movie ‘Air Force One,’ he heard wild cheers of ‘Trump! Trump! Trump!’ and accepted the nomination that America’s political establishment swore for a year and a half would be denied him.

More than an hour later, with balloons and confetti dropping and fireworks showing on giant video screens, the Republican presidential families — both those of Trump and of his running mate Mike Pence — joined him on stage.

In a 4,600-word speech to the Republican National Convention, the longest prepared text he’s delivered since becoming a presidential candidate, Trump staked his claim on Americans’ cravings for stability in a year full of terror attacks and anti-police ambushes.

Big Parks Must Do More to Attract Latinos, Blacks, Asians, Met Council Says

Asked what safety concerns kept them from visiting the metro’s regional parks, focus groups of African-Americans spoke worriedly about violent crime and accidents. Asians tended to bring up snakes, bees, hunters and water viruses.

African immigrants feared rape, killings, stabbings and drownings. Latinos brought up darkness, crime and animals. A combined focus group talked of fears of kidnappings and getting lost in the wilderness.

It might strike a park enthusiast as a dramatic list, but the common thread is that regional parks are big, scary places for many immigrants and people of color.

California Police Officer Charged With Raping Five Different Women While He Was on Duty

A former northern California police officer was charged Thursday with raping five women while on duty.

Police arrested Noah Winchester, 31, near his Stockton home after the local district attorney charged him with 22 counts of kidnapping, rape and related charges.

He allegedly raped the women between July 2013 and October 2015 while he served with the San Mateo Police Department and as an officer for the Los Rios Community College District in Sacramento.

Kaine Makes Clinton Campaign Debut Amid Backlash From the Left

Hillary Clinton and running mate Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine kicked off their first official campaign appearance together Saturday by pitching themselves as the polar opposite of Republican nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Mike Pence.

Wasting no time targeting Trump, Kaine asked the Miami crowd, “Do you want a ‘you’re fired’ president or a ‘you’re hired’ president? Do you want a trash-talking president or a bridge-building president?”

Speaking in Spanish at times, Kaine drew comparisons between the Democratic ticket and Trump. Playing off the Republican nominee’s “Make America Great Again!” slogan, Kaine asked, “Isn’t it great already?”

Hillary Clinton’s newly announced vice presidential pick Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine switched in and out of Spanish at their first joint campaign event in Miami Saturday.

He began with welcoming the crowd in Spanish saying “we are all Americans” in this country.

Kaine said he and Clinton are “soulmates in this great fight” for progressive ideas.

Kerry: Air Conditioners as Big a Threat as ISIS

Secretary of State John Kerry said in Vienna on Friday that air conditioners and refrigerators are as big of a threat to life as the threat of terrorism posed by groups like the Islamic State.

The Washington Examiner reported that Kerry was in Vienna to amend the 1987 Montreal Protocol that would phase out hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, from basic household and commercial appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and inhalers.

“As we were working together on the challenge of [ISIS] and terrorism,” Kerry said. “It’s hard for some people to grasp it, but what we—you—are doing here right now is of equal importance because it has the ability to literally save life on the planet itself.”

Munich Follows Cleveland

By Richard Fernandez

Today’s attack in Munich has momentarily driven commentary on the Republican convention off the headlines. It illustrates the process described in an earlier post . The Narrative will continue to dominate the high frequency news cycle built around candidate personality issues, wardrobe failures or malapropisms. But the populist rebellion will dominate the low frequency news cycle, the perennial issues like immigration, the economy and terrorism. Munich follows Cleveland.

In an article that would have been ignored in the political froth, but which fate will put on center stage once more, David Ignatius in theWashington Post noted that terror threats to the U.S. from the Middle East are brewing at an alarming rate. The drumbeat of reality threatens to burn through the news cordon and wade ashore in America.

An editorial in the Wall Street Journal notes that nobody’s taking any prisoners this election cycle. “Hillary Clinton wants to win over Bernie Sanders voters, and on Saturday she bid for them by reinforcing her promise to rewrite the First Amendment to limit political speech that she and they don’t like.”…

The Ohio County That Picks Presidents is Leaning Trump

In 1960 Ottawa County voted for Richard Nixon while the rest of the country wanted John F Kennedy. That marked the last presidential election in which the residents of this Ohio county on the coastline with Lake Erie differed from the national result.

For 13 elections in a row the country has gone the way of this so-called bellwether county.

With 93% of its population being white the demographics aren’t very representative of the US, but its per capita income of $28,703 (£21,896) is the US average almost to the dollar.

Residents here are concerned about the economy and vote with their wallet, political leaders told the BBC.

The Rise of Black Nationalist Groups That Captivated Killers in Dallas, Baton Rouge

Micah Xavier Johnson, who killed five police officers in Dallas, was increasingly drawn to black nationalist ideology and attended several meetings of the People’s New Black Panther Party.

Gavin Eugene Long, who killed three officers in Baton Rouge, said he belonged to the Washitaw Nation, an obscure black nationalist group that claims ownership to the huge swath of the United States obtained in the Louisiana Purchase.

The People’s New Black Panther Party and the Washitaw Nation have vastly different ideologies and no direct ties to each other, but they are part of a broad landscape of black nationalist groups playing a role in America’s violent summer 2016.

“There is tremendous racial tension in this political environment,” Lenz said. “The idea of an ‘us-versus-them’ ideology is being pushed very heavily no matter what political camp you are from.”

Under Clinton Presidency, U.S. Muslim Population Would Exceed Germany’s by 2024

Under two terms of a President Hillary Clinton, the U.S. Muslim population would exceed Germany’s current Muslim population, according to data from Pew Research Center and the Department of Homeland Security.

According to a Pew report published earlier this week, “as of 2010, there were 4.8 million Muslims in Germany.”

A Pew report from January of this year estimated that there are roughly 3.3 million Muslims living in the United States. This means that today the U.S. already has a larger Muslim population than does Kuwait, or Brunei, or Bahrain, or Djibouti, or Qatar. Under current policy, Pew projects the number of Muslims in America will outnumber Jews by 2040. However, under a President Hillary Clinton it’s possible that date could come much sooner.

BBC Scrubs ‘Ali’ From Munich Killer’s Name on TV, In Articles, and on Social Media

The BBC has unilaterally chosen not to report the Munich attacker’s full name, in what appears to be an attempt to scrub any Muslim or Islamic heritage link to its coverage of the incident.

Most sources at this point suggest that Ali David Sonboly — the Munich attacker who targeted children and killed nine yesterday — is not connected to radical Islam, but the BBC has gone to extraordinary lengths to try to keep any reference to his heritage out of its coverage, opting to name him only as “David Sonboly”.

Other news organisations including the Wall Street Journal , Independent,Daily Mail , and Sky News named the attacker as “Ali David Sonboly” or “David Ali Sonboly”. CNN even referred to him simply as “Ali Sonboly”…

Merkel Vows to Protect Germans as Terrorism Ruled Out in Munich

Chancellor Angela Merkel sought to reassure Germans that the state will keep them safe as she pledged all resources to get to the bottom of the rampage in Munich that left 10 people dead and more than 20 wounded in an attack with no known link to terrorism.

Speaking after an emergency meeting of her security cabinet on Saturday, Merkel said that “we are all grieving” after the “night of horror” in the Bavarian capital. She said Germans can draw strength from both the wave of help offered by the people of Munich to those fleeing the killer and the international expressions of solidarity.

“We will find what exactly was behind this act,” Merkel told reporters in the Chancellery in Berlin after being briefed on the latest situation. “The state and its security forces will continue to do everything to protect the security and freedom of everybody in Germany.”

Munich Killer Had Interest in ‘Frenzied Attacks’ And Had Article Entitled ‘Why Do Students Kill?’

Police in Munich have raided the home of an 18-year-old who is believed to have killed 9 people then himself.

The teenage gunman who killed nine people then himself in Munich was obsessed with “frenzied” attacks including mass shootings and had an article entitled “Why do students kill?” at his home. Police in Munich have searched the home of German-Iranian citizen David Ali Sonboly who is suspected of gunning down innocent civilians outside a shopping mall.

Police officials have said that the suspected killer had no known links to the Islamic State (Isis) but they had found documentation, including electronic data, that was linked to “frenzied” attacks. The latest developments seem to indicate the youth did not have links to any ideology or terrorist group.

The massacre, on Friday 22 July at the Olympia shopping mall also left 10 dead, including the gunman in a suspected suicide, and 27 people injured, including children. Of the injured, 10 remain in critical condition.

At a press conference in Munich, police chiefs said that all of the dead come from the city and that at least six of the dead (including the gunman) were teenagers. Among the victims one child is aged 13, and three of the victims are believed to have been from Kosovo…

Munich Gunman Obsessed With Mass Shootings, Sent Out Invitations to Mall Before Rampage, Cops Say

The gunman who opened fire inside a Munich shopping center Friday killing 9 people sent out an online invitation about a bogus free giveaway to attract more people to the site of the attack, investigators said.

The gunman hacked a Facebook account and sent a message urging people to come to the Olympia Einkaufszentrum mall for a free giveaway, a police investigator said.

The suspect was identified as an 18-year-old German-Iranian man, who was born and raised in Munich. Prosecutor Steinkraus Koch tells a news conference the suspect had a book titled: “Rampage in Head: Why Students Kill.”

Police Chief Andre says that the suspect appeared to be “obsessed with shooting rampages.”

Investigators also found evidence that the Munich-born suspect had suffered from psychological problems and received treatment, but details were still being confirmed, Steinkraus-Koch said.

Munich Gunman ‘Obsessed With Mass Shootings’

The 18-year-old gunman who killed nine people in Munich was obsessed with mass shootings but had no known links to the Islamic State group, German police say.

Written material on such attacks was found in his room. Munich’s police chief spoke of links to the massacre by Norway’s Anders Behring Breivik.

The gunman, who had dual German-Iranian nationality, later killed himself.

He had a 9mm Glock pistol and 300 bullets in his rucksack.

Sweden: Muslim Man Fired for Not Shaking Women’s Hands

A man is suing a local council in Sweden after he lost his job for refusing to shake hands with female colleagues.

The man, a practising Muslim, worked for Helsingborg municipality in southern Sweden. He said it was against his religious beliefs to shake women’s hands, although he was happy to shake the hands of male colleagues.

But council bosses said his stance was incompatible with their equality policy, and said he could no longer work there.

“We are in favour of diversity. People can believe what they like, but that doesn’t mean that they can discriminate. We will stand up for values like equality,” Liberal councillor Maria Winberg told The Local.

UK: Amber Rudd Promises Tougher Sentences for Racists in Hate Crime Crackdown

Synagogues, churches and mosques will be given government cash to protect themselves against attacks by racists, under plans to be published this week.

Amber Rudd, the Home Secretary, will launch a new “hate crime” action plan, including a drive to punish offenders more harshly by ordering prosecutors to press for tougher sentences in court.

A £2.4 million fund will be set up to pay for “protective security measures” at places of worship, the Home Office said.

The Home Office strategy will include details on work to prevent hate crime on buses and trains, as well as efforts to prevent anti-Semitism and attacks on Muslim women.

The plan comes after a sharp rise in so-called “hate crime” incidents such as barging, spitting and assaults directed at racial and religious minorities around the time of the European Union referendum a month ago.

UK: Press Regulator Rules ‘Honour’ Killings Are Not Islamic

The press regulator has issued a troubling ruling that the Mail Online must state that Islam “does not support” ‘honour killings’. Why is IPSO giving religious rulings to protect the reputation of Islam?

What business is it of the press regulator what interpretation of Islam is ‘true’?

IPSO has unwisely embroiled itself in exactly such a debate, after it sided with a personal complaint from Miqdaad Versi, who is the assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, who believes that ‘honour killings’ have “no basis in Islam.”

Versi’s complaint came after the Mail Online published an article with the headline “Mother of four stabbed to death while her family were at a funeral ‘may have been murdered in Islamic honour killing’“.

Versi claimed that ‘honour killings’ are “rooted in culture, not religion.”…

UK: Two Jailed for Putting Bacon on Mosque Door, “Attack on England”

by Robert Spencer

Kevin Crehan got a year in prison and Mark Bennett got nine months for putting bacon on a mosque door and shouting abuse at a Muslim. Bacon and a shout — how horrible! How many people were killed? How many wounded? Was it as many as were murdered by Islamic jihadists in the name of Islam and in accord with its teachings in Nice, or Orlando, or Brussels, or Paris, or San Bernardino, or Chattanooga, or in London on 7/7?

Certainly Crehan and Bennett demonstrated boorish behavior. But prison time? The fact that they were jailed only shows how much Theresa May’s shattered, staggering dhimmi Britain is afraid of offending its new Muslim overlords. Would they have gotten this much jail time if they had shouted abuse at Christians? Theirs was an attack on breakfast, maybe, but an attack on England? No, that was on 7/7, and more are to come.

8 Turks Who Fled to Greece Are a Diplomatic ‘Hot Potato’

The Turkish military helicopter that landed in the Greek border city of Alexandroupolis just as an attempted coup was being quashed in Turkey has turned into one of the toughest diplomatic challenges to date for Greece’s relatively inexperienced government.

On board were eight Turkish military personnel — all unarmed helicopter crew members, it later turned out — who issued a mayday signal and were granted permission for an emergency landing.

The eight immediately surrendered to Greek police. They insist they were not involved in the attempted coup, had been tasked with transporting wounded soldiers and civilians and had fled for their lives after coming under fire from Turkish police.

Turkey Failed Coup: Presidential Guard to be Disbanded

Turkey’s elite presidential guard is to be disbanded after nearly 300 of its members were detained following last week’s failed coup.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told a TV channel that there was “no need” for the regiment.

Earlier, Turkey detained a nephew of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen who it says was behind the uprising. He strongly denies the claim.

A key aide of Mr Gulen has also been arrested, a presidency official said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has launched a widespread crackdown following the attempted coup, arresting thousands of service personnel and sacking or suspending thousands of government officials, school teachers and university heads.

A state of emergency was declared on Wednesday, allowing the president and cabinet to bypass parliament when drafting new laws and to restrict or suspend rights and freedoms.

Twin explosions tore through a demonstration by members of Afghanistan’s mainly Shi’ite Hazara minority in Kabul on Saturday, killing at least 80 people and wounding more than 230 in a suicide attack claimed by Islamic State.

Graphic television footage from the site of the attack showed many dead bodies lying on the bloodied road, close to where thousands of Hazara had been demonstrating against the route of a planned multi-million-dollar power line.

The Taliban, a fierce, albeit Sunni enemy of Islamic State, denied any involvement and said in a statement posted on its website that the attack was “a plot to ignite civil war”.

  1. The Telegraph;
“A spate of reports in the wake of the EU referendum sparked fears of a wave of xenophobic and racial abuse.”

    This somewhat hysterical narrative has been promoted by all the usual suspects, the Telegraph these days is no exception;

The way ‘hate-crimes’ are recorded has been changed.

    Assistant Chief Constable Maurice Mason:

“Some members of the public complaining about Nigel Farage, or whatever, that will get recorded as a hate crime no matter what it is. If the person feels it’s a hate crime it will get recorded as a hate crime.”

    Breitbart quotes police spokesman;
“At the same time last year we had more reports of hate crimes than the immediate post-referendum period this year,”
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/07/12/hate-crime-last-year-police-confirm-despite-including-complaints-farage/

The semi-hsterical reaction of Remaniers was encapsulated by Jackie Kay, the ‘makar’ (ceremonial poet) of Scotland, who was quoted in the Sunday Herald (10July 2016) saying she was thinking of leaving England for Scotland because she “no longer felt safe” post-Brexit.
She said “you cross the road and you think, is that person a Brexiter and are they going to reverse into me?”

The ‘makar’ is apparently unaware what she decribes is an example of a phobia- an irrational fear of strangers- xenophobia to be exact.

    Oh the irony.

  2. The real ‘hate crimes’ are being perpetrated by the ‘pious and observant followers of the teachings of the prophet’, who in reality by their own teachings and scriptures actually hate, denounce and despise all unbelievers and even those of their own ‘faith’ that might dare to ‘practice’ the religion in a slightly different manner.
