Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/14/2016

Live rounds and tear gas were used to disperse rioting inmates in Goulburn Prison in Australia. Officials for the prison guards’ union say the violence was sparked by the efforts of Muslim prisoners to convert others to Islam. However, prison authorities in New South Wales deny that Islam was an issue in the unrest.

In other news, the death toll in the jihad massacre in Nice has risen, and is now possibly as high as 75. The slain driver of the killer truck is said to have been a 31-year-old city resident of Tunisian origin. He reportedly cried “Allahu Akhbar” as he drove his truck through the crowd.

1 Dead After Explosions in Small Nevada Town

PANACA — A sheriff says a pair of explosions in a small Nevada town killed one person and prompted a request for a bomb unit to respond from Las Vegas, about 165 miles away.

Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee said in a statement Thursday that the blasts occurred about 8 p.m. Wednesday in Panaca.

A sheriff’s dispatcher says the blasts weren’t at a business, and it didn’t appear that anyone else was injured.

A neighbor says a car was destroyed, homes were damaged and the bomber was killed in a pair of explosions in a small Nevada town about 165 miles north of Las Vegas.

Richard Katschke says that the car bomb set off a blast that rocked his house and damaged homes next door to the targeted home…

Calif. Mom Arrested for Leaving Kids in Desert on 104-Degree Day — NY Daily News

A woman dropped her kids off in the desert near Twentynine Palms, Calif., as punishment, police said.

A California mom dumped her three kids in the desert on a scorching summer day as a sick form of punishment, deputies said.

Mary Bell, 34, and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Gary Cassle, were arrested Wednesday after police found her children — a 7-year-old girl and two boys, ages 6 and 5 — wandering around San Bernardino County without shoes or water, the Sherriff’s Department said in a statement…

Fresno Police Release Body-Camera Footage of Fatal Shooting of Unarmed 19-Year-Old

The chief of the Fresno Police Department took the rare step Wednesday of publicly releasing the body-camera video footage of officers fatally shooting an unarmed 19-year-old man last month — a shooting that has generated fierce protests amid a roiling national debate over police brutality.

Chief Jerry Dyer said at a news conference that he decided to release the graphic videos of officers firing four gunshots into Dylan Noble, a white man, because of the intense public interest in the shooting.

His decision is expected to heighten the debate about whether video from body-worn cameras on officers should be routinely made public, something that law enforcement agencies and police unions have strongly opposed.

Dyer acknowledged that the footage is “extremely disturbing” to watch, but he said he hoped it would clarify what led officers to stop Noble on June 25 and eventually open fire.

“I anticipate that some of this video will answer many of the questions out there in this community,” Dyer said. “However, I believe this video is also going to raise questions in the minds of people, just as those questions exist in my mind as well.”

The videos show officers spotting Noble’s black pickup and pursuing the truck with police sirens blaring. Dyer said officers had been responding to a report of a man armed with a rifle.

Noble led police to a Chevron gas station where he stopped his truck, with officers parked a few yards behind him. One officer is seen brandishing his gun on the steering wheel shortly before driving into the gas station — a decision the officer made because he believed the pickup driver was armed, Dyer said.

As soon as Noble’s truck is parked, an officer is heard yelling: “Turn off the truck. Get your hands out the window. Both hands out the window.” Later, an officer screams: “Let me see both your hands…. Get both your hands out.”

Noble exited the truck and approached, then retreated from the officers.

Police called for backup, and officers gave about 30 commands for Noble to show his hands, lift his hands or lay on the ground, Dyer said.

Noble did not comply with officers’ orders and turned around to face them. He reached his right hand behind his back and appeared to carry an object in his right hand that officers believed could be a weapon, Dyer said.

Noble is heard saying that he hates his life.

One officer shoots him twice. Noble falls to the ground, rolls over and is seen moving his hand into his waistband and under his shirt. The officer fires a third round at Noble, and after about 12 seconds, another officer fires the fourth shot into the man.

The object in Noble’s hand was determined to be a 4-inch plastic container with malleable clay.

He’s Hired: Trump to Name Indiana Governor Mike Pence as Running Mate According to Reports

Republican White House hopeful Donald Trump will name Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate on Friday, multiple news outlets reported Thursday morning, a choice that would help the New York businessman appeal to conservatives and could boost his chances in a competitive state.

Roll Call on Thursday cited an unidentified Republican with direct knowledge of the decision to choose Pence, 57, a former U.S. congressman.

The Trump campaign would not officially confirm the reports Thursday afternoon. And campaign chairman Paul Manafort tweeted that it was too early to say the billionaire real estate tycoon had locked in his pick.

‘[A] decision will be made in the near future and the announcement will be tomorrow at 11am in New York,’ he wrote on Twitter…

Man Killed in Two Explosions in Panaca May Have Been Seeking Revenge on Boss

A sheriff says a pair of explosions in a small Nevada town killed one person, injured another, and prompted a request for a bomb unit to respond from Las Vegas, about 165 miles away.

According to the Associated Press, authorities are tracing links between a suspected bomber who died in the blasts that destroyed a vehicle and a home in a small Nevada town, and a family of five that lived in the house but escaped injury in the blasts.

News 3 learned from neighbors that the bomber had recently been fired from his job and wanted revenge on his boss. Neighbors say the man warned the man’s family to get out of their house before he blew it up.

“It’s not some little pipe bomb blowing up mailboxes. This was devastating,” said Lee.

The sheriff wouldn’t say more about the relationship, and he didn’t identify the suspected bomber.

During that press briefing by the Lincoln County Sheriff, News 3 learned that there were two bombs. One bomb was in the car that exploded and another was in the home nearby.

Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee says the blast radius is at least a mile wide. Windows of homes were blown out in every direction.

“It took my breath away. I went out and saw a fireball,” said Lee.

Dennis Sanders says it looked like something out of a combat zone. Two bombs exploding less than a mile from his home. One detonating just inside the front door of a neighbor’s house. The other, a car bomb.

“I didn’t even know it was a car. Only a wheel left,” said Sanders. “We got there everything was on fire and the house was blown over.”

Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee says a mother and two daughters were in the home when the bomber arrived late Wednesday, but they fled before the blasts destroyed a vehicle and devastated the house.

Neighbors identify the family as Joshua Cluff, a former official at a hospital in nearby Caliente, Tiffany Cluff, a nurse at the hospital, and three girls ranging in age from about 8 to 12…

New Ties Emerge Between Clinton and Mysterious Islamic Cleric

A newly-released email and lobbying documents filed with Congress reveals new ties between Clintonworld and members of a network operated by a mysterious Islamic cleric from Turkey.

Connections between Clinton and acolytes of the imam, Fethullah Gulen, could muddle the complex relationship between the U.S. and Turkey, a key NATO ally, if the former secretary of state wins the White House.

Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has mounted an aggressive crackdown against Gulen and his followers, known as Gulenists. Erdogan, who was once allied with Gulen, has even personally asked President Obama to extradite the 74-year-old guru, who has lived in self-exile in Pennsylvania’s Pocono mountains since 1999.

Erdogan has accused Gulen of attempting to undermine the Turkish government. Gulen’s followers control many Turkish institutions, including the media, courts, and police force…

Stabbing at Walmart in Princeton

An off-duty McKinney firefighter and one other person were attacked at the Walmart in Princeton, allegedly by an employee who soon became a former employee.

Both victims were taken via CareFlite to the hospital.

Sources tell CBS11’s J.D. Miles, the Walmart employee, Nicolas Martinez, 20, allegedly slit the firefighter’s throat from behind with about 200-300 shoppers inside the busy store.

The firefighter is said to be in stable condition and was identified as George Cook, a McKinney Fire Department Battalion Chief who’s served for over two decades.

Investigators said they believe Martinez targeted Cook and the customer, another man who was said to be a contractor for Walmart. The horrific incident occurred in front of other customers and workers. The suspect then simply walked out of the store and into a nearby field, where he was detained.

Martinez, who is in custody, was also hurt. Police captured video of officers taking him down on dashcam video.

“When we pulled up on scene the officers ordered him down, while officers did have gunpoint on him not knowing whether he had a gun or knife,” said Chief James Waters of the Princeton Police Department.

Erica Jones, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications for Walmart released this statement:

“Today’s events are deeply troubling. Our thoughts are with everyone who was a part of this terrible situation. We are thankful to the first responders for their quick action, and we are continuing to work closely with the police. The associate who did this was arrested and his employment at our store was immediately terminated.”

The store was locked down and will remain closed until investigation is complete…

The Investigators: New Details Show Eerily Similar Incident Involving Sterling, Police

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) — The 9News Investigators obtained a police report that details a previous arrest of Alton Sterling that is eerily similar to the incident that ultimately led to his death.

Sterling, 37, was recently killed in a shooting involving two Baton Rouge police officers on July 5.

Sources close to the investigation said that if the killing of Sterling makes it to trial, Sterling’s past record could certainly be introduced.

RELATED: Alton Sterling shooting: A week later

It turns out Sterling has struggled with police in the past. Documents show, in May 2009, Sterling fought with cops outside of a convenience store on Rosenwald Road, where he was selling CDs, while carrying a gun.

In the report dated May 29, 2009, the officer said he was dispatched to a convenience store after getting a complaint about a subject “on the corner selling CDs” and that the subject had pulled a gun on someone.

According to the officer’s report, when he arrived to the store, he spotted the suspect, who he later identified as Alton Sterling, carrying a crate of CDs.

The officer asked Sterling to put his hand on the hood of his police car and asked if Sterling had any weapons on him. The report says Sterling did “not answer” and as the officer continued to pat him down, Sterling started reaching for his pocket.

The officer went on to say in the report that Sterling suddenly spun around and the two began to struggle. The officer and Sterling hit the ground. The officer said he was able to call for backup as Sterling tried to push him off…

Nice Terror Attack Live Updates: France Death Toll Rises After Truck Crash on Bastille Day

UPDATE: 8:08 p.m. EDT — U.S. President Barack Obama praised France’s democratic values and lamented the “tragic loss of life” after a driver attacked Thursday night a crowd of people in the resort town of Nice. He offered U.S. support to French officials as the European nation marked Bastille Day, a national day of celebration.

A French Interior Ministry spokesman said: “Investigations are currently under way to establish if the individual acted alone or if he had accomplices who might have fled.”

UPDATE: 8:00 p.m. EDT — At midnight in Nice, France, no group had yet claimed responsibility for the truck attack that killed and injured dozens of people. Regional mayor Christian Estrosi told local residents to shelter in place and await further information.

UPDATE: 7:50 p.m. EDT — Just before a terror attack in Nice, France, that saw a driver loaded with weapons ram into a crowd at high speed, killing dozens of people, French President Francois Hollande had said he would let a national state of emergency lapse on July 26. The security measure had been put into place after a mass terror attack in Paris in November that was carried out by Islamic State group supporters.

“We can’t extend the state of emergency indefinitely, it would make no sense. That would mean we’re no longer a republic with the rule of law applied in all circumstances,” Hollande told journalists…

Truck Crashes Into Bastille Day Crowd in Nice, France

France’s national holiday turned ugly for revelers Thursday night in the southern city of Nice, as a truck reportedly crashed into a crowd of Bastille Day revelers and fears of terrorism spread.

Multiple videos posted on BreakingNews.com showed people fleeing in panic, though the crash itself wasn’t shown.

There also were reports of gunshots, though fireworks are often set off on Bastille Day, making such early witness accounts questionable.

Islamist terror groups, sometimes using native-French Muslims, have targeted France repeatedly in recent years and the use of vehicles and car bombs are among their known tactics.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility or mass carnage beyond what might happen in an ordinary traffic accident, but there are casualties lying on the ground, according to eyewitnesses…

Saudi Grand Mufti Against Foreign Holidays That Favour Vices and Immorality

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh calls on Saudis to spend their holidays at home. Excessive freedom in other countries may be dangerous to their values ??and morals. For those set to go, he admonishes to pray, fear God, and force their women to wear the veil.

Riyadh (AsiaNews/Agencies) — Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh slammed foreign holidays for Saudi nationals not out of concern for the kingdom’s domestic tourism, but to protect their virtues and morality.

“It is better not to go to other countries because of the excessive freedom and disregard of their people for social and moral obligations,” the mufti said answering a question from a listener during a radio show.

To those who are already abroad, he said they should work to maintain their Islamic spirit by performing prayers and adhering to other religious obligations.

“These countries have completely open social media and communication systems where everything is available online,” Al-Sheikh warned.

The mufti advised those who are still inclined to travel abroad, for whatever reason, to fear God, offer five daily prayers and stay away from what God has forbidden, like places of vice.

He also said that men should ensure that their wives and daughters wear veils and stay away from mixed gatherings.

The grand mufti criticised some Western countries that have already banned the use of veils and scarfs by Muslim women as they conflict with their own customs and traditions. In reality, many countries have only banned full face-veiling out of security considerations.

Saudi Arabia’s legal system is based on Sharia, or Islamic law, which imposes the death penalty in cases of murder, rape, drug trafficking and sorcery.

Except for Muslims, freedom of religion does not exist in the ultra-conservative Sunni Wahhabi kingdom.

Women are not allowed to drive, and must always be accompanied by a male relative when they want to leave home or the country. They cannot receive medical care without the consent of their guardian.

Goulburn Prison Brawl Sparked by Attempts to Convert Inmates to Islam, Union Official Says

A gun shot and tear gas were used to control a brawl at Goulburn jail this week, which was sparked by attempts to convert inmates to Islam, according to a union official.

New South Wales Corrective Services confirmed a live gun shot was fired during attempts to break up the fight.

The violence had been triggered by an Islamic prisoner trying to convert others within the prison, Steve McMahon, a chairman with the Prison Officers Branch of the Public Service Association said.

However, a statement from Corrective Services NSW denied the fight was religiously motivated.

The statement said the fight between two inmates started on Tuesday and when staff tried to break it up they were not immediately successful.

“When both inmates refused to cease fighting, a warning shot was fired to alert other staff of the incident, as per procedure in NSW prisons,” the statement said.

Prison officers also used gas in the incident, but a second altercation occurred shortly afterwards, the statement said.

“While inmates were being led back to their cells, a fight broke out between two other inmates,” according to the statement.

“Gas was again used to defuse the situation.”

The statement said there were eight inmates in the prison yard at the time of the first incident and no one was injured.

Suspected Islamist Recruiter Kills Four at Kenyan Police Station

A suspected recruiter for the Somali militant group al Shabaab shot dead at least four Kenyan policemen in the station where he was being held on Thursday after he snatched a weapon from a guard, police said.

He was later killed by an elite squad, which specializes in hostage situations, after holding other prisoners hostage as police surrounded Kapenguria police station in west Kenya, officials said. The squad was flown in from Nairobi.

“The siege has finally ended,” John Musiambu, the regional government coordinator, told reporters at the scene.

He said all the inmates in the police cell at the station were safe while one officer of the special squad was wounded.

The man was suspected of links to terrorism, police chief Joseph Boinnet said, without being more specific. The number of casualties was not clear, officials said.

Another police officer, who declined to be name, told Reuters at least four officers were killed and that figure could rise. He said the man was suspected of recruiting for al Shabaab…

Brazilian Member of ISIS Planned Attack Against French Olympic Team

Nothing in the U.S. media on this, but reported by France’s Libération and Brazil’s O Globo:

France’s Director of Military Intelligence, General Christophe Gomart, testified to the Parliamentary Select Committee investigating the 2015 terrorist attacks in France that a Brazilian national who belongs to ISIS planned to attack the French delegation at the Rio Olympic games.

Gen. Gomart would not go into detail about the possible arrest and the exact location of this Brazilian member of the Islamic state, who may not necessarily be in Brazil, according to Libération.

The information, which should have remained classified, was appended to a 1,000 page report published on Tuesday on the website of the National Assembly, which is how Libération came across it…

10 thoughts on “Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/14/2016

  1. With respect to the Goulburn riot, I’d favour the claim of the Prison Officers’ union chief over Corrective Services. The unions are relentlessly left-wing which must mean it’s getting pretty bad for their members working in such circumstances that they’d openly blame Islam for the fracas. Corrective Services is a government department and the government has, of course, ‘form’ when it comes to covering up Muslim malfeasance, so obviously they’d claim ‘nothing to see here’.

It was reported last week that a particularly violent Australian murderer has converted to Islam inside. As I commented at the time, a murderer cares for his own skin if no one else’s, and in the Islamic conversion pressure chambers our prisons are becoming it would be suicidal to resist ‘persuasion’.

  2. That truck in Nice? Has got nothing to do with islam. Our media and politicians said so, this morning. All of them. It’s just… terrorism, you know. Happens all the time.

So, since the spineless bastards can’t call a spade a spade, the countdown to the next massacre is already well under way.

    • Meanwhile it’s been confirmed that Mohammed coefficient of Nice attack is 100%.

  3. The attack in Kenya was conducted by an ISIS-linked Somali who apparently served as a police officer. Although this points to infiltration of the Security Services by Islamists, Kenya still cannot undertake effective counter-espionage campaigns within its security sector due to the nature of ethno-politics that defines national life.
Regarding the Nice Attack, the fatality count has risen to 84 and the French People are at a loss. Even though, the National Front may attempt to garner political capital from this terrorist attack; this doesn’t obviate the need for the French People to ask their government to be a little more harsher to Islamists and even adopt a right-wing political stand with regards to Immigration and Integration of North Africans into the French National Life.

    • At this point only drastic measures can stop islamisation. A lot of people will not like it, but there is no other way:

      – Stop any form of migration from any muslim countries. No exceptions.
      – All muslim asylum applications should be canceled and those already admitted should be returned to their native countries. All those countries are safe for muslims anyway.
      – Any mosque preaching violence should be immediately closed and any radical imam should be immediately deported.
      – Anyone found with extremist materials, or sympathising terrorism, or supporting Sharia automatically loses citizenship and is deported, without any liberal nonsense.
      – Strict surveillance of muslim population and immediate detention of all radicals without court order.

Anything softer than that is useless. And I don’t see a lot of politicians having guts to actually lead their countries and take actions. Wilders and Trump are rare exceptions.

  4. Do Obama and Paul Ryan have the same speechwriter? Listen to Obama on BLM etc

“It’s going to require all of us not to close ourselves off and go to corners but rather require us to come together and listen to each other.”
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36801150

That fact both are spouting such similar idiotic cliches after Dallas is disturbing, but, alas, not surprising. And to think Ryan was aspiring to undermine Trump
