Central Banks Causing Investors to Lose $24 Billion a Year Amid Negative Interest Rates: Report

Investors are losing approximately $24 billion per year because of central banks pushing interest rates to below zero in an effort to spur economic growth that hurts savers and boosts lending.

According to a new report from credit analysis firm Fitch Ratings, negative interest rates are generating negative-yielding government bonds that costs investors billions of dollars per year. Researchers say the subzero interest rates are posing “challenges to long-term investors that rely on sovereign debt as a bedrock of their portfolio.”

The subzero rates are leading to reduced income from government securities. Investors, savers and retirees lose income because banks, pension funds, money market funds and insurers don’t have the necessary funds to pay them. This is why Citigroup recently noted that pension funds face deficits of $520 billion and are underfunded by an astounding $78 trillion.

The Next Employment Crisis is Here: Job Cuts at U.S. Companies Jump 35 Percent in April

Should we be alarmed that the number of job cuts announced by large U.S. companies was 35 percent higher in April than it was in March? This is definitely a case where the trend is not our friend. According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, U.S. firms announced 65,141 job cuts during April, which represented a massive 35 percent increase over the previous month. And so far this year overall, job cut announcements are running 24 percent higher than for the exact same period in 2015. Meanwhile, on Thursday we learned that initial claims for unemployment benefits shot up dramatically last week. In fact, the jump of 17,000 was the largest increase that we have seen in over a year. Of course the U.S. economy has been slowing down for quite a while now, and many have been wondering when we would begin to see that slowdown reflected in the employment numbers. Well, that day has now arrived.

At this point, U.S. firms are laying off people at a rate that we have not seen since the last financial crisis. Here is what Zero Hedge had to say about these latest numbers…

While one can debate the veracity of the BLS’ seasonally adjusted data, one thing is certain: when a company announces it will layoff thousands, it will. So for all those who suggest that all is well with the US jobs picture based on initial claims reports, here is the latest report from Challenger according to which the pace of downsizing increased in April jumped by 35% to 65,141 during the month of April, from the 48,207 layoff announcements in March.

Looking further back, in the first four months of 2016, employers have announced a total of 250,061 planned job cuts, up 24% from the 201,796 job cuts tracked during the same period a year ago. This represents the highest January-April total since 2009, when the opening four months of the year saw 695,100 job cuts in the aftermath of the biggest financial crisis in modern history.

So what is causing this?

Why are firms laying off so many people all of a sudden?

My readers are very well aware of the pain that the energy industry is experiencing at the moment, but surprisingly it was not the energy industry that announced the most job cuts in April…

Computer firms announced 16,923 job cuts during the month; the highest total among all industries. That total includes 12,000 from chipmaker Intel, which is shifting away from the traditional desktop and laptop market and toward the mobile market. To date, computer firms have announced 33,925 job cuts, up 262 percent from a year ago, when job cuts in the sector totaled just 9,368 through the first four months of the year.

Yes, the U.S. energy industry has lost well over 100,000 good paying jobs since the beginning of last year, but the downturn is so much broader than that. All over America corporate earnings are down, and when earnings fall it is inevitable that layoffs will follow.

Anti Islamification Politician Geert Wilders Will Travel to Republican Convention to Support Trump

Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV) founding leader and member of parliament, Geert Wilders, has said he will speak at the United States Republican convention in the summer in support of likely party candidate Donald Trump.

Geert Wilders, who is presently facing charges of inciting hatred and discrimination against Moroccans in his native Netherlands is a prominent leader in the European counter-jihad movement and has praised the Trump candidacy for its unaccommodating stance on Muslim mass migration.

Bill Kristol: Desperately Seeking Establishment “Insurgent” Alternative to Trump

Heralds freshman senator who majored in government at Harvard

Bill Kristol, editor of the consistently unprofitable neocon redoubt Weekly Standard, told the wife of the former chairman of the Federal Reserve he is on the lookout for an “insurgent” to counterpose Donald Trump.

Making the corporate media rounds on Thursday, Kristol told CNN his hope is on freshman Sen. Ben Sasse, a near nobody from Nebraska who went to Yale and Harvard and majored in government.

“I hope Ben Sasse decides to pick up the mantle himself. I think it would be fantastic to have a young, charismatic, conservative, but very independent-minded and willing to work across the aisle senator on the stage with two elderly Americans: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton,” said Kristol.

Sasse is a central character in the #NeverTrump movement. He went on Facebook Wednesday and posted “An Open Letter to Majority America” calling for a third party candidate.

Elderly Man ‘Cooked Alive’ By Defective Heating, Cooling System, Lawsuit Says

A lawsuit filed in Essex County Superior Court claims an elderly man was killed in his Bloomfield apartment on Dec. 13, 2015 from extreme heat caused by a defective heating/cooling system.

BLOOMFIELD — Every Sunday, Neal A. DiNapoli III typically delivered groceries to his grandparents at their apartment at Felicity Tower in Bloomfield, court documents state.

But when DiNapoli and his fiancée knocked on his grandparents’ door in the afternoon of Dec. 13, 2015, there was no answer and they sensed a blistering heat coming from the apartment, court documents state.

They forced their way inside and found the motionless bodies of Neal T. DiNapoli Sr. and Immaculate DiNapoli, court documents state. DiNapoli began CPR on his grandmother and saved her life, but his grandfather ultimately died, court documents state.

Now the DiNapoli family is suing the owner of Felicity Tower and the management company at the building, claiming a defective heating/cooling system filled the apartment with “extreme heat” and ultimately killed 82-year-old Neal T. DiNapoli Sr., according to the lawsuit filed on April 21 in Essex County Superior Court.

The lawsuit states Neal T. DiNapoli Sr. was “cooked alive” and Immaculate DiNapoli, 77, was seriously and permanently injured. Emergency medical personnel determined Neal T. DiNapoli Sr.’s body temperature was about 108 degrees, court documents state.

On Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Thomas R. Vena directed the defendants to attend a June 8 hearing in the matter…

Federal Police Officer Suspected of Murder, Possibly Linked to 2 New Md. Shootings, Now in Custody

Police announced Friday they caught a federal officer wanted in connection with three possibly related shootings in Maryland that killed a total of three people, including his estranged wife.

Montgomery County police said officers arrested 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil in Aspen Hill, who was wanted on a first-degree murder charge. Investigators said Tordil, an officer working for the Federal Protective Service, shot and killed his wife, a chemistry teacher, outside their children’s school in Beltsville Thursday.

Then on Friday morning, two shootings unfolded — one at a mall parking lot in Bethesda, and one outside a supermarket in nearby Aspen Hill roughly 30 minutes later. Police said it was possble Tordil may have been the gunman in those shootings as well. Beltsville, Bethesda and Aspen Hill are all Washington, DC suburbs.

Initially, one person was shot outside Westfield Montgomery Mall after some kind of confrontation, Montgomery County Assistant Police Chief Darryl McSwain said. He added that two others were shot after they rushed to the first person’s aid. Paramedics rushed the three people shot — two men and one woman — to nearby Surburban Hospital, which went on lockdown.

One of the men died in the hospital. The other man was in critical condition, and police said they expected the woman who was shot to survive.

The shooting near the Giant Food supermarket in Aspen Hill left one woman dead Friday morning…

‘Not a Reality Show’: Obama Takes Opening Shots at Presumptive GOP Nominee

President Obama, reacting to Donald Trump effectively wrapping up the Republican primary race earlier this week, took his opening shots Friday at the now-presumptive nominee — urging tough scrutiny of the businessman’s record and saying, “This is not a reality show.”

The president was asked about the Republican race during an impromptu press conference following remarks on the economy at Friday’s White House briefing.

“[Trump] has a long record that needs to be examined,” Obama said, urging the public to “take seriously” some of the controversial statements he’s made.

“This is a really serious job. This is not entertainment. This is not a reality show. This is a contest for the presidency of the United States,” he said.

Obama Mouthpiece Rhodes Brags About Using Gullible Media as His PR Staff

Media are the Democrats’ PR staff. Ben Rhodes just told us everything we need to know about how it works

The Obama Administration counts on the news media to serve as its echo chamber — unquestioningly spewing out talking points and narratives crafted by the administration. You know it and I know it. We talk about it all the time. It’s so obvious we even bother to express any outrage about it a lot of the time, because there would scarcely be any point to that. We simply bake in media bias in all our discussions about how to combat the agenda of the left.

But it’s quite astonishing to see Ben Rhodes, one of Obama’s top mouthpieces and foreign policy advisors, actually brag, on the record, about how he uses these gullible clods to do his bidding for them. And he’s not just bragging in generalities. He’s naming names and explaining how the strategy works, all in an interview with the New York Times that was — as you might imagine — more fawning than damning.

I’m going to quote extensively from a New York Post piece by John Podhoretz, who really sums up the astonishing chutzpah Rhodes demonstrates in the Times interview. You want to say it’s unbelievable, yet knowing this administration and this president (and the media they’re so easily manipulating), it’s totally believable:

Romanian Hacker Who Claims He Breached Clinton Server Says He Spoke With FBI at Length

The Romanian hacker who says he easily breached Hillary Clinton’s personal email server also claimed, in a series of interviews with Fox News, that he spoke with the FBI at length on the plane when extradited from Romania to Virginia last month.

“They came after me, a guy from the FBI, from the State Department,” 44-year-old Marcel Lehel Lazar, who goes by the moniker “Guccifer,” told Fox News during a jailhouse phone interview. He said the conversation was “80 minutes … recorded,” and he took his own notes.

A government source confirmed that the hacker had a lot to say on the plane but provided no other details. Lazar was flown to the U.S. to face separate cyber-crime charges.

Satire: King Salman and Obama Agree on Voter Exchange Program

MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA — A joint US-Saudi Arabia press conference was held outside the Kaaba late Tuesday night for King Salman and U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama, in which they summed up their negotiations that ended in a friendly agreement and a mutually beneficial citizen exchange program.

Noting the many hours of “robust” negotiations, King Salman addressed the American people directly: “First, you’ll never find out what’s in the 28 redacted pages of the 911 Commission Report, and we promise not to dump $750 billion US Treasury notes.”

He then stunned reporters with a bold proposal, noting his kingdom’s chronic shortage of foreign slaves available “for hire” as domestic help.

“We have asked President Obama, and he has graciously agreed, to send us your entire stock of Republican voters and their families, starting with Trump supporters. In exchange, you will receive an equal amount of Saudi Arabians and residents of our neighboring Muslim countries, shipped to you live and unharmed, to replenish your dwindling and unenthusiastic Democrat voter base.”

President Obama, himself progeny of Arab-Muslim slave traders, seemed unable to contain his enthusiasm and was overheard to say from his kneeling position on the floor, “This is consistent with our values. This is who we are.”

Suspect in Custody in Shootings at Mall, Grocery Store, High School

A frantic 22 hours of mayhem at a school, a mall and a grocery store jolted two counties as it left three dead and three wounded before a suspect was captured Friday afternoon in a Maryland parking lot near the scene of the final killing.

The arrest of Eulalio “Leo” Tordil, a 62-year-old federal law enforcement officer, followed a manhunt that forced Montgomery County schools, government buildings and retail establishments to lock down. Just before 3 p.m., police cruisers rammed Tordil’s silver Hyundai Elantra as it sat parked outside a strip mall. Officers drew their guns and shouted for him to surrender — just one day after he had allegedly gunned down his wife within view of her daughter.

Although authorities said he had planned to die in a “suicide by cop,” Tordil soon emerged from the car with his hands up.

“He gave up peacefully,” said Theresa Doyle, 55, who witnessed the arrest from her car near a Dunkin’ Donuts. “I am still shaking. This could have been so much worse.”

The sporadic shootings sparked a deep sense of foreboding that echoed what the same neighborhood suffered through during the Beltway sniper rampage that took 10 lives in 2002…

Teachers Blame ‘Dangerous Donald’ For Creating Bullies

The president of the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten, blasted Donald Trump for what she described as hateful rhetoric, and said an “entire generation of children” now need special attention in order to recover from his bully-type tactics.

“Donald Trump appeals to the worst elements of our society,” Weingarten said to reporters, the Hill said. “[His rhetoric] is really creating bullying and violence in schools.”

She also said Trump has put teachers on the spot to “help an entire generation of children recover from the hateful rhetoric he has aimed at immigrants, Muslims, Black Lives Matter activists,” and educators are having a tough time handling the burden.

“It is influencing our children and their behavior in schools,” she said, “ and making it much, much harder for us.”

The PCE, Pt. 21: Eliteworld vs. America First

by Diana West

The insularity of Eliteworld is such that when Evan Thomas (Phillips Academy, Harvard) argues in a New York Times op-ed, “Why We Need Foreign Policy Elites,” he assumes that his Exhibits A & B — (A) “opening China” (B) arms control treaties (detente) with the USSR — will all but clinch his un-democratic case for the necessity of turning over foreign affairs to a cadre of Ivy-trained policy advisors.

That’s bad enough.

What comes next, though, goes beyond liberal platitudes about what might constitute unassailable policy successes.

Thomas writes:

Of course, the “best and the brightest” of the 1960s administrations — academics like Walt Rostow and Mr. Kissinger, corporate titans like Robert S. McNamara — were far from perfect, to put it kindly. They bear the blame for Vietnam and the 58,000 American soldiers who died there, not to mention the millions of Vietnamese.

But they also strengthened a world order balanced precariously on the edge of nuclear war. They expanded trade, deepened alliances and underwrote billions in foreign aid. None of this was cheap, but they understood — as Mr. Trump seems not to — that the global stability bought with such efforts is worth far more.

I have read this more than once, and hear the chilling echo every time: “You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs.”

The line, of course, is the turn of phrase made infamous by Walter Duranty, the New York Times’ Pulitzer-Prize-winning Ukraine Terror Famine apologist. In this way, Duranty, a Cambridge man, himself, explained away the forced-famine Stalin engineered in the early 1930s to destroy some six, seven million people, perhaps more. (The collusion of Moscow-based correspondents in suppressing famine news is discussed in American Betrayal.) Yes, the circumstances Evan Thomas has under consideration are different, but it’s hard not to see a certain similarity in outlook…

Canadian Bank Wants to Phase Out Five-Cent, 25-Cent Coins

Canada’s current coin currency is costing the nation a lot of money, and in order to rein in unnecessary costs, the government should eliminate the nickel, says a new report from one financial institution. Perhaps the future will be free from quarters, too.

EU to Punish Visegrad 4

The European Union (EU) aims to fine the Visegrad 4 nations ‚€250,000 per “refugee” per year for refusing to take their “quota” of nonwhite invaders, the European Commission (EC) has announced.

The EU has also threatened to suspend the Schengen passport free zone for those nations and withhold billions of euros in EU funds.

The announcement is guaranteed to result in a heightening of tension between the V4 nations and Brussels, and could pave the way for a final showdown between Eastern Europe-which has refused to commit racial suicide-and the West.

The money-which will amount to a significant figure-will be “docked” from those member states refusing to take in their “quota” of “refugees.”

The money will then be handed to frontline states such as Greece and Italy to hand out in welfare and aid to the arriving nonwhite invader army, the EU has said.

The Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia have all rejected Brussels’s attempts to implement “migrant quotas.”

Hungary and Slovakia have even launched legal cases against the quota plan, which was forced through by a rare majority vote last year.

“I am in favor of showing a friendly face of Germany. This is my open-arms policy” The 180 degree turn on the issue is of course explained not by a change of heart, but by a change in sentiment within Germany.

[Comment: I hope the German people will remember what she did to their country and not fall for her political about face. Basically, the globalist nation destroyers are realizing the hijra was too much too fast and their own citizens (whom they have betrayed) are waking up. Note also, she wants to protect the EU outer borders — not the borders of Germany.]

Oh, Good: ‘Caitlyn’ Jenner to Pose Nude for Sports Illustrated

Now let’s see if we’re really understanding what nude means here. Because real nude is what Playboy used to do before they finally figured out that no one needed to pay for an image of a naked woman on paper with millions of them available on the Internet for free. Real nude would answer a few questions about what exactly Bruce has done to himself — questions to which I frankly do not need the answers, thank you very much. But if I wanted those answers, just telling me would be fine. Showing me is decidedly not necessary.

But they’re not really going to do nude. Because if you’re “wearing” anything — – even an American flag, strategically covering up whatever has become of your once-proud anatomy — that’s normally called a tease. In this case, SI’s overwhelmingly male readership may well have the same reaction as if Bruce had really taken it off, which will be the most massive trek to the toilet since the days of the Roman Empire’s vomitoriums, as depicted on Saturday Night Live when it was funny back in the ‘70s.

It’s not hard to understand what this is all about. Pop culture media now feels completely safe not just excusing homosexuality and transgenderism, but pushing it, hard, on its audience/readership and then brutally chastising any segment thereof that would prefer to just, say, read about sports.

Ontario Premier Reaches New Heights in Hypocrisy

Lesbian Wynne, who like the true leftie she is loves to call anyone who opposes her crooked government “homophobes,” doesn’t really care about sexual harassment if it involves one someone in her caucus.

Premier Kathleen Wynne is a proud liberal and Liberal whose mantra, like other leaders on the left is “do as I say, not as I do.” But her recent revelations about sexual harassment by members of her Liberal caucus drives this hypocrisy to a whole new level.

On Tuesday, Wynne admitted since becoming premier in 2013 she had to deal with allegations of sexual harassment made against two Liberal MPPs. But the premier refuses to give any details about what facts were found; what actions were taken as a result of such findings, what actually happened, and most importantly, the names of any MPPs who were found to have sexually harassed others.

Wynne’s reasons for keeping everything private are breathtaking, even for her, the leader of the most corrupt government in the province’s history. The alleged victims wanted it done in private and did not want any information released to the public. But obviously Wynne doesn’t want that information released either.

  1. I would never return to Canada. Everything I read about it is so demoralizing and demeaning, it’s turning into a sewer of depravity and socialist ruin. I suppose Canada, called by its first Prime Minister Sir John Alexander Macdonald ‘this great Dominion’ is now just a slimy swamp of Leftists and destroyers doing their immoral work under a shield of pc perversion. Why would anyone want to move to Canada? Why would anyone want to return to Canada? Culturally Canada is only a few years behind the national suicide of Sweden. Economically it’s far worse off than Australia, which it was often compared to. Militarily it’s a sour pathetic joke. Even irresponsible Leftocratic failing states spend the recommended 2% of GDP on national defense. Canada spends under 0.8%. By any measure Canada is a country that no longer has the means to prosper, or even the will to survive. This is the message people get from such provincial leaders as Wynne, Notley, and Trudeau. Wynne’s Ontario now has the highest public debt of any jurisdiction in North America, from Canada to Panama.

The economy of Notley’s Alberta is imploding, with the oil and gas industry there turning into a ghost town. Those were traditionally Canada’s two strongest provinces, both are cratering now thanks to socialist pc policies taken to obscene extremes. And just look at the decline nationally that’s occurred under the ‘post-national’ Trudeau in less than a year. The whole country is a slow-motion train wreck happening before our eyes. There’s nothing for Canada to look forward to. They’ve done it to themselves, though. And frankly, they largely deserve the ruin that’s coming their way.

    • It was still holding together when we had Stephen Harper.

Sadly, he is gone. Gone, but not forgotten.

      Deeply regretted.

If I had to pick one person as a perfect U.S. president, regardless of eligibility, he would be it.

A decent man, whose work is now wasted by Trudeau.
I’m afraid that he’ll be remembered in history as the “last chance”.

    • Why should Canada spend much on national defense? Their rebellious colonial neighbors to the south carry most of the burden for the defense of the Western Hemisphere.

BTW, from Maryland, I and others where I teach are mourning the death of Mrs. Tordil, one of our colleagues.

  2. Evil triumphs when good people do nothing, eh? Canadians, a great people, need to wake up FAST or follow the USA and the EU into oblivion.

  3. “Anti Islamification Politician Geert Wilders Will Travel to Republican Convention to Support Trump”

This is pretty much what it gets down to. If Trump succeeds in the USA, Europe (at least parts of it) *might* follow and be saved. Eastern Europe is already okay, but if Trump comes in, it could “spread”.

    Go Donald Go!
