Ferguson Store Looted; Brown Was Accused of Robbing Same Location

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Anger spurred by the death of a black teenager at the hands of a white police officer boiled over again when protesters stormed into a Missouri convenience store — the same store that Michael Brown was accused of robbing.

Police and about 200 protesters clashed in Ferguson, Missouri, late Friday after another tense day in the St. Louis suburb, a day that included authorities identifying the officer who fatally shot Brown on Aug. 9. At the same news conference in which officer Darren Wilson was named, Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson released documents alleging that Brown stole a $48.99 box of cigars from the convenience store, then strong-armed a man on his way out.

Gov. Jay Nixon of Missouri declared a state of emergency in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson on Saturday afternoon and ordered a curfew after a week of unrest following the fatal shooting of an unarmed African-American teenager by a local police officer.

The governor’s action came hours after hundreds of demonstrators engaged in a standoff with the police early Saturday that was punctuated by threats and a new round of denunciations of law enforcement practices.

David Cameron: ISIL Poses a Direct and Deadly Threat to Britain

by David Cameron

The poisonous extremism on the march in Iraq and Syria affects us all — and we have no choice but to rise to the challenge, says the Prime Minister

Stability. Security. The peace of mind that comes from being able to get a decent job and provide for your family, in a country that you feel has a good future ahead of it and that treats people fairly. In a nutshell, that is what people in Britain want — and what the Government I lead is dedicated to building…

Direct Democracy Expands in Germany

While the Swiss are voting on more issues than ever before, votes initiated by citizens in Germany’s 16 states are still rare. But calls for reform are growing, inspired by Switzerland.

Direct democracy is not a Swiss invention, but this system has been widely used and developed in the alpine republic since the 19th century.

So much so that Switzerland is seen as one of the most advanced democracies and held up as an example in many places.

A quick opinion poll by swissinfo.ch among passersby in Berlin’s busy Friedrichstrasse revealed a broad awareness of the Swiss votes in neighbouring Germany.

“I find people’s votes good because the citizens have a direct influence on decisions,” said Sybille Heine.

UK: Tesco Store Trashed by Gaza Protesters

Demonstrators threw produce to the floor and shouted at staff and shoppers

Police officers were attacked and stock was thrown around during a protest against the Gaza conflict at a Tesco store on Saturday.

Demonstrators, who want the supermarket to stop selling Israeli food, entered Tesco in Hodge Hill, Birmingham, threw produce to the floor and shouted at staff and shoppers.

Pictures show a large number of police officers at the scene and stock strewn across the floor of the store. West Midlands Police said one person was arrested for assaulting its officers during the protest.

Speaking on social media, a customer said: “I was just in the Tesco in Hodge Hill, scanning my items and I heard chanting. Then a group of Asian men holding Palestinian flags came walking in and starting to push products over and getting aggressive with staff and shoppers. Police officers tried to stop them but I ran out.”

About 100 people had gathered outside the store to demonstrate, calling on Tesco to stop all trade with Israeli agricultural companies.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Our officers dealt with a protest at Tesco Hodge Hill this morning where some disorder was repoted. One arrested for assaulting police.

“The protest was largely peaceful among the 100 protesters but some began throwing stock inside Tesco store. Two escorted from premises.”

ISIL’s Ottoman “Caliphate” Forbears Brutally Slaughtered 250,000 Assyrian-Chaldean, And Orthodox Christians a Century Ago

by Andrew Bostom

Albeit belated, and ever grudgingly, the non-Muslim world has been compelled to acknowledge ISIL’s ghastly, murderous jihad rampages against both the Christian and Yazidi religious minorities of northern Iraq.

Even now, however, no U.S. television network has been willing to air the explicit testimonies of both Yazidi and Christian refugees from these jihad depredations about the following salient issue: how local Sunni Muslims, their erstwhile “neighbors,” not only aided and abetted ISIL, but were more responsible for killings, other atrocities, and expulsions than the “foreign” invading jihadists. For example, Sabah Hajji Hassan, a 68-year-old Yazidi, lamented,…

ISIL’s Tentacles Creep Into Indonesia

The high security island jail called Nusakambangan is described as Indonesia’s Alcatraz — there is no stricter prison and perhaps no more secure environment on the entire archipelago.

Yet in mid-July, Nusakambangan’s most hated inmate, the man who inspired the Bali bombers, Abu Bakar Bashir, was able to organise a room and invite 22 prisoners to a meeting. There, under the shadow of a sinister black flag, they pledged their allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS.

Bashir’s real influence is now debated in Indonesia, but he’s still one of the most charismatic jihadists in the country.

His bai’iat — or oath of allegiance — to ISIL confirms to Australia and the West in general that the threat of terrorist violence against them in Indonesia is once again very much on the table.

The Great Chinese Exodus

Many Chinese are leaving for cleaner air, better schools and more opportunity. But Beijing is keeping its eye on them.

Today, China’s borders are wide open. Almost anybody who wants a passport can get one. And Chinese nationals are leaving in vast waves: Last year, more than 100 million outbound travelers crossed the frontiers.

Most are tourists who come home. But rapidly growing numbers are college students and the wealthy, and many of them stay away for good. A survey by the Shanghai research firm Hurun Report shows that 64% of China’s rich—defined as those with assets of more than $1.6 million—are either emigrating or planning to.

To be sure, the departure of China’s brightest and best for study and work isn’t a fresh phenomenon. China’s communist revolution was led, after all, by intellectuals schooled in Europe. What’s new is that they are planning to leave the country in its ascendancy. More and more talented Chinese are looking at the upward trajectory of this emerging superpower and deciding, nevertheless, that they’re better off elsewhere.

Number of Ebola Cases ‘Vastly Underestimated’, WHO Says

The Ebola outbreak that has already claimed more than 1,000 lives in west Africa is moving faster than aid organisations can handle, the medical charity MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières or Doctors Without Borders) said Friday.

The warning came a day after the World Health Organization said the scale of the epidemic had been vastly underestimated and that “extraordinary measures” were needed to contain the killer disease.

World View: West Africa at Significant Economic Risk as Ebola Panic Intensifies

With travel bans increasing, the Ebola panic is almost reaching the point where West Africa is being quarantined and cut off from the rest of the world. Airlines are suspending flights to some West African cities. The Ebola crisis could also create shortages of food, fuel and other supplies because the nearest big port, Abidjan in Ivory Coast, has announced a ban on all ships from the Ebola-affected countries Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, the three hardest hit countries. Cross-border markets have been shut down, and several major mining companies have scaled back their operations or postponed expansion plans.

With estimates of more than 1,060 deaths and 1,975 infected, the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is already the deadliest ever. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that the size of the epidemic may be “vastly underestimated,” as there are rumors of entire villages being wiped out, and some infected people are simply afraid to notify the authorities of their illness. One health worker was quoted as saying, “If you have people fly in to your village looking like Martians (because of the non-contamination suits), and everyone is getting sick, it’s not hard to believe that the Martians are making you sick.”

  1. Andrew Bostom’s article is a sober reminder of how the ‘peaceful and moderate’ Muslim next door in an ordered society can quickly turn into the fundamentalist Muslim, those who are driving IS and ISIL and ISIS, over night!

    Read it and beware!

  2. Re. “David Cameron: ISIL Poses a Direct and Deadly Threat to Britain”.

Very astute of you, Prime Minister!
Have you only just noticed and are you not aware that the threat is not simply from ISIS? The mainstream of this malignant ideological carcinoma has long been permitted, indeed encouraged, to grow and develop in the UK unhindered by you and your predecessors throughout the last quarter century .
Still, I’m sure you handle it – all that you have to do is just remind us yet again that “It’s nothing to do with Islam”, because we do need to be constantly reassured.
    S III.

    • At least he’s starting to “talk the talk”. Not much, but better than nothing. Whether our (UK) military still has the means for effective action is another matter (and I mean no disrespect to the members of our diminished forces).

  3. @David Cameron: Isil poses a direct and deadly threat to Britain

“What we are witnessing is actually a battle between Islam on the one hand and extremists who want to abuse Islam on the other.”

    The Cameron Caliphate.

  4. It won’t be long before we hear other leading politicians in the US and Europe referring to IS as being “at war AGAINST Islam”. It’s that tired trope lamenting moslem victims, akin to the “Cui Bono” fallacy dominating Arab societies which will in this case point the finger (and the gun) at the “Zionists”.

  5. Regarding the upper middle class exodus from China; are they getting away, or getting in? Right now all eyes are on the clear and present danger (Islam). China plays the long game. We are new kids on the block of the great game. Even China’s ambitions in Africa make me wonder to whose advantage the Ebola outbreak may favour. Now, where’s me tin hat?

    • Good question andy5759. I have often pondered that one myself and have yet to come to a decision on which I can form an honest opinion.

Asians tend to stick with other Asians, just like Caucasians and Negroes have a tendency to do the same. It is a natural trait in all human ethnicities to discriminate – which has now been vilified by the Collective who have made natural discrimination an offence under Anti-Discrimination Acts all over the Western world.

So when an employer is forced by law to employ those he/she would rather not, does that then make that employer a better person who is perceived as being more receptive to a diverse cultural mix in running his/her business or does that enforcement make him/her more anti-ethnic and resentful to those he/she is compelled to employ under such oppressive/fascist law?

When I look around the West I see the evidence that such laws do not work, and in the main, cause those who would not ordinarily be resentful to other ethnicities, and are put ‘under the thumb’ by the actions of governments who really care little for their own people, be forced to become very cunning in how they go about hiring future employees.

Forcing humans to counter their own intuition will never work and no amount of ‘diversity training’ will totally extinguish the natural discrimination that is inherent in all humanity.

So andy5759, that ‘tin hat’ you have available just may come in handy real soon!

      • Heard Jesse Jackson yesterday, telling the BBC that the solution to the problem of police discrimination, in Missouri and elsewhere in the US, is to employ equal numbers of blacks and women.

I daresay there’s a problem, but recruiting on grounds other than character and aptitude is not the answer!

        • Precisely Mark. I have no time for the stupidity of inclusive and feel good politics. It exposes those who push that kind of agenda as the frauds they really are.
