Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/23/2014

Construction will begin this summer on the first mosque in the city of Iqaluit (formerly known as Frobisher Bay, the capital of the Canadian province of Nunavut) on Baffin Island. There are no statistics recorded for the number of Muslims in Iqaluit, which has a population of about 6,700. However, the demographics of the city list an Arab population of 0.2%, which would be about thirteen people. Then there are South Asians, which comprise 0.8%, or about 54 people. But some of those are probably Hindus.

In other news, a suicide bomber killed 33 people in Baghdad. The Islamic State, formerly known as ISIS, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Bad Loans Up 24% in May, Italian Banking Association Says

Total gross loans -2.2% to 1.8427 trillion euros in June

(ANSA) — Rome, July 22 — Non-performing loans exceeded 168.5 billion euros in May 2014, up 24% over the same month last year, Italian banking association ABI said Tuesday.

The ratio of these bad loans, where the chance of repayment is low, to total loans in Italy was 8.9%.

This was the highest since October 1998, ABI said. In June the total value of loans was 1.8427 trillion euros, down 2.2% over the same month in 2013.

However, the drop was an improvement over the year-on-year data for the previous month, when total gross loans fell 3.1% over May 2013. Loans to families and businesses totaled 1.427 billion euros in June, down 1.4% over the same month in 2013.

Business and family loans fell by 2.4% in May over the same month the previous year.

Obama’s Part Time Nation

A deceptive jobs report obscures the dark truth about the Obama economy

Last Thursday, an Obama-centric mainstream media trumpeted the creation of 288,000 jobs and the reduction in the unemployment rate from 6.3 percent to 6.1 percent. Lost in the manufactured euphoria are the sobering details: America is well on its way to becoming a nation where millions of workers can only find part-time, lower-paying jobs.

On the surface, the numbers are impressive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported the aforementioned 288,000 jobs gain, while the household survey reported a gain of 407,000. Yet those numbers pale in comparison to the rise in the number of voluntary and involuntary part-time jobs, coming in at 840,000 and 275,000, respectively. Since the BLS uses seasonally-adjusted figures to calculate jobs data, one cannot subtract the total number of part-time jobs from full-time jobs. However, data regarding seasonally-adjusted full-time jobs can be compared on a month-to-month basis and therein lies the true tale of woe.

A whopping 523,000 full-time jobs were lost in June.

As the graphs here indicate, this is the second largest decline of full-time jobs in the past year, but by far the largest addition of part-time jobs. So far this year the economy has created 926,000 full-time jobs and 646,000 part-time jobs. Overall, America now has 118 million full-time jobs compared to 28 million part-time jobs, according to the BLS. Thus, 23.7 percent, or nearly one-out-of-every four Americans, is working part-time.

2014: Obama’s America

Scandals now come so fast that each new mess makes us forget the previous one.

The summer of 2014 will go down in history as the season when America fell apart. Let’s take a tour of the disasters.

Germany in 2008 enthusiastically hosted candidate Barack Obama for his so-called Victory Column speech. Now, Germans suddenly sound as if they are near-enemies of the U.S. Chancellor Angela Merkel reportedly was furious that her cell phone was tapped by American intelligence agents. She just kicked the top CIA official out of Germany, further enraged that the U.S. had recruited at least one German official to provide intelligence on the German government. Polls show that Germans find Vladimir Putin’s Russian tyranny to be almost as popular as Barack Obama’s America.

Japan is becoming similarly frustrated with the U.S. It is rearming like crazy to confront an aggressive China. Both Asian powers apparently assume that Obama won’t guarantee the security of the Japanese as America has in the past.

The Middle East is dissolving. Taking U.S. peacekeepers out of Iraq proved a disaster. The radical jihadists of ISIS are overrunning Syria and Iraq, as they extend their destruction even to the mute stones of religious sanctuaries.

Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis

In an earlier post, I noted the liberal record of unmitigated legislative disasters, the latest of which is now being played out in the financial markets before our eyes. Before the 1994 Republican takeover, Democrats had sixty years of virtually unbroken power in Congress — with substantial majorities most of the time. Can a group of smart people, studying issue after issue for years on end, with virtually unlimited resources at their command, not come up with a single policy that works? Why are they chronically incapable?

Why?

One of two things must be true. Either the Democrats are unfathomable idiots, who ignorantly pursue ever more destructive policies despite decades of contrary evidence, or they understand the consequences of their actions and relentlessly carry on anyway because they somehow benefit.

I submit to you they understand the consequences. For many it is simply a practical matter of eliciting votes from a targeted constituency at taxpayer expense; we lose a little, they gain a lot, and the politician keeps his job. But for others, the goal is more malevolent — the failure is deliberate. Don’t laugh. This method not only has its proponents, it has a name: the Cloward-Piven Strategy. It describes their agenda, tactics, and long-term strategy.

Ben Stein: ‘Jew Hatred’ Exists ‘In the Media’

“The media in this country for a very long time has been contemptuous of Jews and contemptuous of Jewish life,” Stein said.

“This was true during the Holocaust, when the media was largely controlled by old, lying, wealthy, white Protestant males, and it’s true now when it’s controlled by mostly left-wingers.”

“The media likes to portray Jews as bullies and murderers and . . . it’s kind of amazing to me, because so much of the media is Jewish,” he said.

“Some of that media is very, very good. I mean, I look at people like [The Weekly Standard founder] Bill Kristol, he’s absolutely fabulous. But there’s a deep-seated self-hatred, especially [among] the New York City elite media.

“They want to show they’re not Jewish by being anti-Israel, and it’s not going to work. We know they’re Jewish and we know that they’re not being fair to their own people, but they’ll keep doing it.”

“Terrible, shocking, shocking. Kerry is a perfect example of everything we have talked about, because Kerry is Jewish — ethnically,” Stein said..

“Yet he is so eager to push an image as a WASP gentile and to look down his nose on Israel. He is sort of a perfect specimen of the kind of behavior we’re talking about.”

Diana West: What Does it Take for American Thinker to Permit an Author to Respond?

Jeff Nyquist has posted a new entry to add to his ruminations about ex-Communist conservative critics of American Betrayal and related topics. His latest is a brief but pointed discussion of an anything-but-brief series on American Betrayal and the “controversy” around it which appeared at the American Thinker website on July 4, July 5, and July 6 — 12,000 words in all by Jeff Lipkes that someone chose to title “Diana and Ron.”

You can find the Nyquist discussion and relevant links here.

Nyquist makes note of two “interjections” awkwardly tacked onto the end of Lipkes’ final installment. These little poison pen letters were drafted by none other than Ronald “McCarthy on Steroids” Radosh and David “She should not have written this book” Horowitz, American Betrayal’s leading detractors. By my count, this makes the sixth or even seventh eruption over the book by Radosh and the fifth one by Horowitz. It really does seem to be the case, as in the old nursery tune, that everywhere that American Betrayal went, Radosh/Horo were sure to go.

Interestingly enough — at least to me, the author of the book that so fascinates and terrifies my detractors — American Thinker did not extend to me this same “courtesy,” if that’s what it was. (This seems to be a pattern.)

After crafting a defense against just a few points of attack extracted from the massive Lipkes critique, I sent it in as my response. American Thinker rejected it unless — get this — I agreed to accept the editorial guidance of American Thinker in rewriting my own defense of my own book. This becomes extra-jaw-dropping since the editor presuming to direct my own defense of my own book had also declared himself hostile to it.

So extraordinary is the whole exchange on this subject that I am publishing it in full so that interested readers can evaluate for themselves American Thinker’s committment to fair play and open debate.

It will also explain why no author’s response has appeared at the American Thinker following the publication of a three-part, 12,000-word series by Jeff Lipkes about American Betrayal.

My response, by the way, will be appearing soon — just not at American Thinker.

But first, the email exchange with American Thinker editor JR Dunn, which I copied to editor in chief Thomas Lifson. Emphasis occasionally added for darkly comic relief.

Diana:

Thanks for your patience. We will, of course, be happy to schedule this, in the interests of balance. But there exist a number of flaws in the piece as it stands, which we’d like to see corrected before we proceed further.

First, there are several errors of fact. The statement that Armand Hammer was lobbying on behalf of the Soviets to obtain Lend-Lease aid for the UK “in 1940” is doubtful, to say the least. 1940 was the peak of the Hitler-Stalin pact period (August 1939 — June 1941), when the USSR and Nazi Germany were allied and cooperating vigorously against the British, among others. If the correct year can’t be established, this should go.

Carl Spaatz, as commander of the 8th Air Force, was responsible for strategic bombing over Northwest Europe, not Europe as a whole. The 14th Air Force, under command of Ira Eaker, covered Southern Europe.

Too much emphasis is put on the “scholarly apparatus” question. If St. Martins wouldn’t allow it, then that’s it. Mention it and drop it. Lipkes didn’t know this was the case and can’t be attacked for it

[DW: I explicitly told Lipkes in writing about St Martins’ space limitations in advance and he chose to ignore it].

The second point involves the tone. I find the superciliousness and scarcely veiled insults troubling, and I’m sure that most readers will think the same. It’s like being locked in a room with someone screaming at full volume. This needs to be removed in toto, including the paragraph dealing with Lipkes’ doctorate, the repeated uses of “Jeff”, and the tendentious repetitions concerning misspellings — once is enough for these. If you don’t feel up to it, I’ll be happy to handle this myself. I think you will find this works much better. As the old saying goes, honey attracts more flies than vinegar.

But the major problem is this — Jeff Lipkes is right…

EPA Claims Agent Orange Compound Can be Applied to All Corn and Soy Crops With No Risk to Humans

The EPA is accepting public comments on the proposals through June 30. But reports indicate that both the EPA and the USDA already appear to favor the new crops, ignoring their obvious threat to both crops and human sustenance. 2,4-D, in fact, doesn’t even seem to be on the agencies’ radars, considering the EPA’s recent admission that it doesn’t see the poison as being at all harmful.

Exclusive: Cuomo’s Office Hobbled New York State Ethics Inquiries

A high-powered commission created by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to root out corruption in New York politics was hobbled almost from the outset by demands from the governor’s office, which sought to shield his allies from scrutiny, according to an examination by The New York Times.

A three-month review of the panel’s short life and sudden death found that the governor’s office deeply compromised the commission’s work, objecting whenever its investigators focused on groups with ties to Mr. Cuomo or on issues that might reflect poorly on him.

Ultimately, Mr. Cuomo abruptly disbanded the commission halfway through what he had indicated would be an 18-month life. And now, as the Democratic governor seeks a second term in November, federal prosecutors are investigating the roles of Mr. Cuomo and his aides in the panel’s shutdown and are pursuing its unfinished business.

Impeach Barack Obama, The Anti-American, Marxist Fiend

The chaplain of one of our local TEA Party groups shared with us a column he stumbled on, which was written just before the 2008 national election that saw a real-life Manchurian Candidate installed in our presidency. The column, by former White House staff economist and budget analyst Jim Simpson, was published September 28th 2008 at American Thinker, and is titled “Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis.” It’s a lengthy essay that connects the dots of radical leftist — or Marxist, if you will — influence on Barack Obama (or whatever his name is). The piece demonstrates that Obama is well-versed in the evil Cloward-Piven strategy of orchestrated crisis, overwhelming the system, whatever system, with demands, for the purpose of destroying it.

Mr. Simpson’s article is well worth reading. He covers all the bases of Obama’s anti-American radicalism. In addition to Cloward-Piven, he outlines the influence on Obama of Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, George Soros, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and others. He also addresses some of the main areas targeted by our enemies-within using the Cloward-Piven strategy: voting, illegal immigration and the mortgage industry.

Of Obama, Mr. Simpson writes:

He can be tied directly to a malevolent overarching strategy that has motivated many, if not all, of the most destructive radical leftist organizations in the United States since the 1960s.

International Climate Skeptics Gather in Las Vegas

We all owe a debt of gratitude to the skeptics who have courageously disputed the global warming/climate change hoax

From July 7 to 9, the ninth International Conference on Climate Change will convene in Las Vegas in a dramatic demonstration that “global warming” was a huge hoax and the claims that “climate change” is responsible for everything are a continuation of that fraud.

As a policy advisor to The Heartland Institute, a Chicago-based free market think tank, I attended its first climate change conference held in New York in 2009 to dispute the “science” advancing global warming. I have been writing about the hoax that gained momentum since James Edward Hansen testified before congressional committees in 1988. From 1981 to 2013 Hansen had been the head of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

Along with other government agencies like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NASA has been producing data that routinely tampers with climate statistics to maintain the hoax that gained an international platform with the creation of the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1998.

Man Arrested for Asking Cops a Question

A video out of Monroe County, New York shows police arresting a man who questioned why officers were all taking their break at the same time.

Ryan Conklin entered Henrietta Hots diner just before 2am on July 4th before three Monroe County sheriff’s deputies arrived. Conklin asked the deputies why they were all taking their break at the same time when drunk drivers could be leaving local bars.

“I simply asked three Monroe County Sheriffs, why they all were all at Henrietta Hots when it is a busy holiday weekend, and I suggested they be split up and police the area, taking staggered breaks,” said Conklin.

Footage of the incident shows Conklin having a heated conversation with Officer Philip Baretela. Conklin has his hands behind his back, but Baretela escalates the situation when he asks, “Are you a badass, is that what you’re saying?,” before getting in Conklin’s face.

Baretela then demands that Conklin turn around before grabbing him. The three sheriff’s deputies then arrest Conklin but refuse to tell him the reason.

“Why are you arresting me, can you tell me?” Conklin repeatedly asks one of the deputies, but doesn’t get an answer.

MS-13 Gang Members and Jihadists Let in Over the Border as Children

Not all of the tens of thousands of border rushers flooding the U.S. sleep with teddybears; not many of them would stand in awe at the appearance of border greeter Nancy Pelosi, and some would never be mollified by the lollipops distributed by Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

Here they come, America: Bloodthirsty MS-13 members and jihadists rushing the border, having posed as innocent children.

It’s the cowardly way out for authorities like Murrieta City Manager Rick Dudley to describe the queue jumpers as little children desperate to be reunited with parents and relatives in the U.S., when flooding the same unsecured channels are able-bodied members of MS-13 and jihadists, slipping through courtesy of having adopted Hispanic -sounding names.

British Politicians in ‘Secret Deal’ To Allow Mass Surveillance of Public

Privacy campaigners and even MPs have accused UK political leaders of conspiring to allow spooks to continue to conduct mass surveillance on the public by collecting records of phone calls, text messages and internet usage without a legal basis.

In response to the rush to make the practice law, the Open Rights Group condemned the plan, urging that the government knows there is “no legal basis for making internet service providers retain our data so it is using the threat of terrorism as an excuse for getting this law passed”.

The government is arguing that it has to act legislatively because the European court of justice has deemed that the data retention was a breach of privacy rights. In other words what they are already doing is against the law, so the government is attempting to change the law.

“The government has had since April to address the European court of justice ruling but it is only now that organisations such as Open Rights Group threatening legal action that this has become an ‘emergency’,” said Jim Killock, executive director of the watchdog group, explaining that the government is desperately attempting to protect the illegal practices that GCHQ, MI5 and MI6 are already engaged in and are on the brink of losing.

Gaza Conflict: As a British Jew, I Am Now Scared to Talk About Israel and Gaza

by Emma Barnett

It is terrifying to see those who oppose Israel’s war in Gaza turn against all Jews

It’s not often that I wish I could unhear Radio 4’s Today programme. But yesterday morning, that’s exactly what I found myself wishing I could do.

The final item before the 8am news bulletin tried to explore how Israeli Jews in the UK feel about the situation in Gaza. The discussion also rather messily strayed into how British Jews feel about the conflict…

[Reader comment by 123bob1972 on 23 July 2014.]

I never listen to the BBC to avoid the upset.

The language and attitudes towards the Jews is reminiscent of the 30s. That should be the news story not Israels reluctant defense of its own country from endless rocket attacks.

Italy: ‘Berlusconi Gave Dell’Utri 70 Offshore Accounts’ Says Fede

Fede phone chat with personal trainer turned over to prosecution

(ANSA) — Palermo, July 22 — Berlusconi allegedly set up 70 offshore bank accounts for his former aide Marcello Dell’Utri, former TV anchorman Emilio Fede told his personal trainer Gaetano Ferri in a 2102 recorded phone conversation that was made public Tuesday.

Dell’Utri, a 72-year-old former advertising businessman and former Senator with Berlusconi’s now-defunct People of Freedom (PdL) party, is serving seven years in prison for conspiring with the mob.

Fede, a well-known former anchorman with the Berlusconi-owned TG4 television station, last summer was sentenced to seven years for aiding and abetting the prostitution of 26 women, many of them escorts, who between 2008 and 2009 were brought to so-called “bunga bunga” sex parties at the residences of then-premier Berlusconi.

“Look what he’s getting out of Berlusconi…do you realize there are 70 foreign bank accounts, and Dell’Utri’s name is on all of them?” Fede tells Ferri in the 2012 recording, which Ferri turned over to prosecutors. The recording was submitted into evidence in the ongoing State-Mafia trial in relation to alleged negotiations between the State and Cosa Nostra — in which Berlusconi is not implicated — to stop a series of bomb attacks in the early 1990s that claimed the lives of anti-Mafia judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992, among other people.

In that trial, former mobster turned State’s evidence Antonino Galliano testified earlier this month that Berlusconi paid protection money to the Sicilian mafia Cosa Nostra in the 1980s, with Marcello Dell’Utri as the go-between.

Medina in Birmingham, Najaf in Brent: Inside British Islam — Review

by Christopher de Bellaigue

Innes Bowen’s study reveals how the government’s attitude towards British Muslims has been defined in part by ignorance

Along with the “Trojan Horse” controversy about the imposition of a strict Islamic ethos on a number of Birmingham schools, the disclosure that several hundred Britons have been to Syria and Iraq to fight with the jihadis has fired up those who believe that Islam represents an urgent threat to this country. Amid the hype — some of it justifiable, much not — nuance has inevitably been lost…

[Reader comment by Richie Hart on 23 July 2014.]

The values of conservative Muslims are not British — we believe that men and women have equal rights, and should not be segregated. Also conservative Islam cannot abide non-believers — this spectacularly unbritish.

Netherlands: MH17 Victims’ Mobile Phones ‘Answered by Others’

A number of relatives of people who died in the MH17 air disaster have been shocked when dialing their mobile phone number and the phone has been answered by someone, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

The paper says ‘several relatives’ have heard ‘eastern European sounding voices’ answering the phones of their loved ones, indicating they have been taken from the crash site.

Telephone companies have refused to confirm if calls have been answered ‘out of privacy considerations’. However, they have agreed to cancel subscriptions of victims without the customary death certificate, the paper said.

UK: No More Trojan Horses

Labour needs to explain why Birmingham failed to stop the Islamist practices in the schools under its control

Throughout the controversy over alleged attempts to impose an Islamist agenda on state schools in Birmingham, doubts have been cast on the authenticity of the so-called Trojan Horse letter that exposed what was going on. However, as Peter Clarke, the former counter-terrorist chief brought in to investigate, pointed out in his report published yesterday, the extent of infiltration was, if anything, under-played. His inquiry found “disturbing” evidence that people with a “shared ideology” were trying to gain control of governing bodies in the city…

UK: The Islamist ‘Trojan Horse’ Plot: Why Lessons Won’t be Learned

By James Delingpole

“No evidence of a conspiracy”. Do you remember that reassuring phrase? You should because it was being enthusiastically bandied about in the left-leaning media (led, of course, by the BBC) less than a week ago — as the pull-out headline quote from local headteacher Ian Kershaw’s “independent” report into the Birmingham schools Islamist Trojan Horse plot…

Still, at least we now have a better idea than ever before of the liberal-left’s hierarchy of values. When it comes to the rights of “oppressed” minorities, the order of precedence goes like this.

1.   Muslims
2.   Teachers’ Unions.
3.   Women.
4.   Homosexuals

and….

27989. Jews

[Reader comment by foxie1 on 23 July 2014.]

And this was the real reason Gove was sacked. He got a too close over the target and had to be removed before he could actually put things right. Sharia must not be hindered. Absolutely nothing to do with Teaching Union hostility to his reforms — the teachers used to strike and complain all the time under the Labour governments as well.

Cameron will be remembered as our vilest traitor in history.

[Reader comment by Old Goat on 23 July 2014.]

And so it goes on. When everyone is subject to Shariah law, when we all have to cover all of our bodies in public, swear allegiance to the Prophet Mohammed ([micturition] be upon him), face east and pray five times or more a day (wherever we may be, whatever we may be doing), indulge in the Ramadan and associated theatre, wear funny head dress, and say Allahu Akbar, and Insha ‘Allah a lot, will the world be a better place?

UK: Trojan Horse School ‘Ordered Some Pupils to Act as Religious Police’

The concerns over the “Trojan Horse” plot revealed by an official report include claims that dozens of pupils were recruited as “religious police” to spy on fellow students and staff.

More than 150 pupils at Park View school were tasked with reporting behaviour “deemed unacceptable by conservative Muslims” and notifying the headteacher of “staff who speak out of turn”, Peter Clarke’s review was told.

Author Says “Muslim Brother” Obama Betrays Israel

“Before the 1970s there are no Palestinians on the table” for the United Nations to manipulate as a cause for “liberation,” he said.

Ben-Tekoa acknowledges a Soviet role in this phony “liberation” narrative as well. At its core, he says, the Palestinian cause is Islamic, with its hatred of Israel and the West. But he says the PLO, its first chairman Yasser Arafat, and many of its factions had their bases in the Soviet Union and were trained by the Soviets.

He adds, “Both Islam and Communism are totalitarian systems and both of them ideologically hate Jews and are behind the murder of Jews. So they work together. But the history of Jewish-Arab relations…goes back thousands of years [and] predates the monstrosity of modern-day communism. Islam is a religion which is steeped in hostility toward the Jewish people.”

Christians in the Middle East, he notes, are also targets of this hostility. “It’s a nightmare for them these days.”

By Targeting Ben Gurion Airport Has Hamas Ended the Prospects for a Two State Solution?

by Alan Dershowitz

Hamas’s decision to fire rockets in the direction of Ben Gurion Airport may well have ended any real prospect of a two-state solution. Whether the regulators and airlines that have stopped flights to and from Israel are right or wrong, this stoppage cannot possibly be tolerated by a democratic country that relies so heavily on tourism and international travel. It is of course a war crime to target an international civilian airport, as Hamas has clearly done. Israel has every right to keep that airport open, employing all reasonable military means at its disposal. Since Hamas fires its rockets from densely populated civilian areas, there will be more Palestinian civilian deaths…

Caroline Glick: Obama to the Rescue — of Hamas

Operation Protective Edge is now two weeks old. Since the ground offensive began Thursday night, we have begun to get a better picture of just how dangerous Hamas has become in the nine years since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip. And what we have learned is that the time has come to take care of this problem. It cannot be allowed to fester or grow anymore.

We have known for years that tunnels were a central component of Hamas’s logistical infrastructure.

What began as the primary means of smuggling weapons, trainers and other war material from Hamas’s sponsors abroad developed rapidly into a strategic tool of offensive warfare against Israel…

Gaza Tunnels Take IDF by Surprise

The ground phase of Operation Protective Edge raises many questions that will require answers once the campaign is over. Was Israel aware of the extent and scope of the Hamas terrorist tunnel project? Was the Israeli military establishment aware of it, and if so, did it provide Israel’s decision-makers with a comprehensive — or even a near comprehensive — account of the dozens of high-quality tunnels being excavated between the Gaza Strip and Israel, which would be put into use once the order arrived?…

What does the world make of Hamas? It has funded health clinics, schools, libraries and mosques and was swept to power in local elections by an overwhelming majority. It has also fired rockets at Israeli towns, kidnapped Israeli citizens and vowed to destroy the Jewish state, which is why Israel, the U.S. and EU consider it a terrorist organization, period. There are many sides of Hamas, the Islamist group deeply entrenched in the Gaza Strip, an impoverished sliver of Mediterranean coastline between Israel and Egypt that is home to 1.8 million Palestinians.

IDF Returns Fire After Terrorists Attack From Gaza Hospital

Army says IDF troops coming under fire ‘for days’ from Hamas and Islamic Jihad gunmen operating from Al Wafa hospital.

The IDF has struck a terrorist position in Gaza’s Al Wafa hospital, illustrating the highly sensitive and illegal use of civilian targets as human shields by Hamas and other Gazan terrorist groups.

IDF sources say that the controversial decision to attack the position was taken after several days in which ground forces came under heavy fire from gunmen positioned inside the hospital grounds. The fire reportedly included both light weaponry and heavy anti-tank missiles directed towards IDF armored vehicles.

“The hospital premises were being used as war rooms and command centers by the terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad,” said an IDF spokesperson.

The military added that it had repeatedly warned international agencies and the Palestinian head of the hospital directly about the gunfire from the hospital, as well as several other senior Palestinian officials — but to no avail. Instead, in the past several hours the intensity of the attacks has only increased, posing a real and imminent danger to the lives of soldiers operating in the area, forcing the IDF to respond with fire of its own.

In the past day the IDF has killed approximately 30 terrorists, and overnight the Israeli Air Force struck 120 targets in the flashpoint Gaza neighborhood of Shajaia where heavy battles are still raging…

IDF Says Most Tunnels Have Been Found

Minister Erdan says Hamas’s government should be toppled because ‘nothing can be worse’ than Hamas.

IDF Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Motti Almoz, announced Wednesday morning that the IDF has discovered most of Hamas’s attack tunnels into Israel.

“We can point to a solidification of the goals and a deepening of the accomplishments,” he told IDF Radio. “The soldiers are reporting about numerous tunnels that are in our hands, and I can determine that most of the tunnels are in our hands. We are now taking action to neutralize the tunnels and destroy them.”

The Minister of Communications, Gilad Erdan (Likud), who is a member of the Diplomacy and Security Cabinet, called Wednesday for the toppling of Hama’s Gaza regime.

“It is gradually coming to light that nothing can be worse than Hamas,” he explained. “Therefore, we should consider the goal of toppling Hama’s government and personally causing harm to each of its commanders.”

IDF forces in Gaza continue to advance slowly and carefully toward the achievement of the goals that have been handed down to each of the brigades. A military source said Wednesday that about 200 targets were attacked in the past 24 hours. About 30 terrorists were killed.

Since the beginning of the operation, 210 terrorists are known to have been killed, and 28 terrorists have been arrested. A total of 28 tunnels have been exposed. Six of these have already been demolished, as have 57 of the shafts that enable access to the tunnels from the ground level…

J’accuse: Western Academics Condemning Israel Aid Hamas Terrorists

by Phyllis Chesler

J’accuse every single Western academic, each intellectual and journalist who has ever circulated and signed a Resolution against Israel and in favor of Hamas is a supporter of Islamist barbarism against Western civilization.

They are the West’s equivalent of suicide (or really, homicide) bombers.

These are the professors and activists who are, essentially, anti-American in their point of view and who, like President Obama (who studied with them), want a de-militarized and diminished America. The 21st century manifestation of this sentiment in academia isthe Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, whose aim is to starve the Israeli government by bullying even further already indoctrinated academics, artists, and businessmen into not working in Israel and/or into covering the news in only a pro-Hamas and pro-Palestinian way.

Once, when they were younger, some supported the American civil rights movement—as I, too, did; were opposed to the Vietnam War—which I, too, once was; and they supported the overthrow of the American government (by any means possible). That’s where they lost me. I had escaped from Kabul, Afghanistan where I was held hostage to an Afghan husband and I knew that America was the best country on earth.

Kerry Arrives in Israel in Effort to Broker a Gaza Cease-Fire

Secretary of State John Kerry made a surprise visit to Israel on Wednesday, as he pressed his effort to forge a cease-fire to bring a halt to the bitter fighting in the Gaza Strip.

Mr. Kerry’s plane touched down at Ben-Gurion International Airport just a day after the United States Federal Aviation Administration suspended American civilian flights to Israel.

Mr. Kerry will visit Jerusalem and the West Bank and is scheduled to meet with Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel; Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority; and Ban Ki-moon, secretary general of the United Nations.

The F.A.A. action was taken after a Hamas rocket fell about a mile from the airport, leading to what the agency called “a potentially hazardous situation created by the armed conflict in Israel and Gaza.”

Ben-Gurion airport is the main international gateway to Israel, and the F.A.A.’s decision prompted complaints from Israeli officials that it amounted to a reward to Hamas for its missile attacks.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel spoke with Mr. Kerry on Tuesday night to ask his help in getting the suspension lifted. Jen Psaki, the State Department spokeswoman, issued a statement later, saying that the F.A.A. restriction had been made to protect American carriers and citizens, and would be reviewed within 24 hours.

Israel agreed last week to Egypt’s proposal for a cease-fire but soon resumed its airstrikes, and eventually sent troops into Gaza, after Hamas continued to fire rockets and sent militants to carry out attacks in Israel using tunnels dug from Gaza.

Private Jets, Restaurants, Luxury Hotels: The Good Life of Senior Hamas Officials

Hamas leaders are facing criticism inside and outside of Gaza for enjoying a comfortable lifestyle while Gazans suffer.

Hamas leaders have been often seen in recent days talking about the suffering of the residents of Gaza. But while most Palestinians are faced with shortages and restrictions on movement in the Gaza Strip, this is far from the case for officials from Hamas, which has been the de facto ruler there since throwing out political rivals Fatah in 2007.

As reported recently in Ynet, Hamas has millions in assets, and it seems that the wealth extends to day-to-day life as well as investments and fat bank accounts. For them, life is about private jets and luxury, not war planes and hunger.

But as the IDF’s Operation Protective Edge, triggered by Hamas rocket fire on Israel, continues, more and more voices can be heard inside and outside of Gaza attacking the movement and its leaders’ ostentatious lifestyle.

On Sunday, Egyptian officials sharply criticized Hamas political leader Khaled Mashal, stating that “while the Hamas leadership lives in luxury hotels, it is abandoning the innocent Palestinian people, who are being killed in their dozens.”…

No Evidence of Direct Russian Involvement in MH17: US Officials

US intelligence officials say pro-Russian rebels shot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 by mistake and have not found any direct link to Russia, Dutch and foreign media said on Wednesday.

Ukraine Rebel Commander Acknowledges Fighters Had BUK Missile

(Reuters) — A powerful Ukrainian rebel leader has confirmed that pro-Russian separatists had an anti-aircraft missile of the type Washington says was used to shoot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 and it could have originated in Russia.

In an interview with Reuters, Alexander Khodakovsky, commander of the Vostok Battalion, acknowledged for the first time since the airliner was brought down in eastern Ukraine on Thursday that the rebels did possess the BUK missile system and said it could have been sent back subsequently to remove proof of its presence.

Before the Malaysian plane was shot down, rebels had boasted of obtaining the BUK missiles, which can shoot down airliners at cruising height. But since the disaster the separatists’ main group, the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk, has repeatedly denied ever having possessed such weapons.

true

Since the airliner crashed with the loss of all 298 on board, the most contentious issue has been who fired the missile that brought the jet down in an area where government forces are fighting pro-Russian rebels.

Khodakovsky blamed the Kiev authorities for provoking what may have been the missile strike that destroyed the doomed airliner, saying Kiev had deliberately launched air strikes in the area, knowing the missiles were in place.

“I knew that a BUK came from Luhansk. At the time I was told that a BUK from Luhansk was coming under the flag of the LNR,” he said, referring to the Luhansk People’s Republic, the main rebel group operating in Luhansk, one of two rebel provinces along with Donetsk, the province where the crash took place.

“That BUK I know about. I heard about it. I think they sent it back. Because I found out about it at exactly the moment that I found out that this tragedy had taken place. They probably sent it back in order to remove proof of its presence,” Khodakovsky told Reuters on Tuesday.

“The question is this: Ukraine received timely evidence that the volunteers have this technology, through the fault of Russia. It not only did nothing to protect security, but provoked the use of this type of weapon against a plane that was flying with peaceful civilians,” he said.

“They knew that this BUK existed; that the BUK was heading for Snezhnoye,” he said, referring to a village 10 km (six miles) west of the crash site. “They knew that it would be deployed there, and provoked the use of this BUK by starting an air strike on a target they didn’t need, that their planes hadn’t touched for a week.”

“And that day, they were intensively flying, and exactly at the moment of the shooting, at the moment the civilian plane flew overhead, they launched air strikes. Even if there was a BUK, and even if the BUK was used, Ukraine did everything to ensure that a civilian aircraft was shot down.”…

“They allow these illegals to come here and do what they want, but yet we can’t step on the pavement, we’re ordered beyond the line and beyond the cones,” he said to citizen-journalist Rob Garza. “This is public property and a public right-of-way and we have every right to be on that road [next to the border station.]”

Another man, Kyler, thought that the Border Patrol agents were protecting the station better than the border.

“They’ve got an entire tent out there with the cops and Border Patrol, just sitting out there waiting — guarding — the entire road to the station,” he said. “It looks like they are there to defend the station like we’re going to attack it.”

“It’s ridiculous.”

French Tests Plan for Long-Term Visa Applicants

New legislation unveiled on Wednesday aims to shrink the bureaucratic hurdles facing foreigners who want to stay in France and provide a glimmer of hope for asylum seekers languishing in limbo. But anyone wanting to get a 10-year visa would need to be able to read French.

Current Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told French paper Liberation that France “must remain a land of immigration and a land of asylum,” adding that “countries closed to the outside world are condemned to decline.”

Layoffs Prove the Deceit of Amnesty

The shocking announcement that Microsoft is cutting 18,000 jobs is still sinking in. Most of those employees do not have a realistic chance of obtaining as good a job as the one they are losing.

In the United States, the number of engineering jobs has been sharply declining. In 2002 the number of electrical engineering jobs in the United States was 385,000, but despite increased demand for technology, the job total dropped to only 300,000 last year.

And that number is not even for American workers, because thousands of these jobs are soaked up by the H-1B visa racket, whereby companies like Microsoft can import and pay foreign workers less than it costs to hire an American. High-tech companies have thousands of foreign employees working on H-1B visas who are almost like indentured servants to the company, because they lose their right to be in our country if they leave their job.

Migrant Children Used as Human Pawns to Spread Infectious Disease Across America, Warn Netizens

(NaturalNews) America is in a de facto state of invasion, and it’s an invasion that was deliberately engineered to “occupy” America with a flood of illegal immigrants known to be carriers of tuberculosis, scabies, lice, AIDS, Swine Flu and other infectious diseases, warn netizens.

A massive authoritarian censorship effort is under way to hide this fact from the American people, but the truth is leaking out nonetheless.

It’s one giant emergency room. They tell me tuberculosis has become a very dangerous issue there. Nurses say the number of children representing symptoms of tuberculosis is ‘simply staggering.’ Spitting up blood, chest pains, constant coughing. There are at least three confirmed cases for the illegals in Austin, Texas… The federal government is covering up the threat of the health crisis. They say the kids have scabies. They also say they have chicken pox. And lice so severe they can be seen crawling down the faces of the children. — reporter Todd Starnes, Fox News

In response to that story, one user commented:

The percent of infected immigrants is so much higher than the frequency of diseases found in those nations. That means that preferentially the sick and diseased are managing to despite their illnesses travel long distances across Mexico to get to our border. We are beyond statistical probability and into purposeful action. In short the infected illegals are nothing more than a BIO-weapon delivery system, someone is waging war on the American citizens and they are using bio-warfare as the means of attacking us.

TSA Grants Security Amnesty to Illegals: No ID Required to Fly Commercial Airplanes, But Only if You’re Not an American (Opinion)

(NaturalNews) The latest insult to Americans will infuriate millions: while the TSA strictly enforces ID and security requirements on American citizens, illegal aliens are now being allowed to board and fly on commercial aircraft without having to show any ID at all, announced the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC).

This bizarre decision results in an “air security amnesty” of illegals while simultaneously admitting that the agency’s extreme enforcement of ID requirements for American citizens is nothing more than security theater.

Chilling Implications? Largest Bank Asks Workers if They Support Homosexuality

NEW YORK — The largest bank in the United States now allegedly requires its employees to state whether or not they are supporters of the homosexual lifestyle.

JPMorgan Chase, headquartered in New York City, is the United States’ largest bank, with total assets of over $2.5 trillion. The bank has overtly supported homosexuality for several years, appearing in several “gay pride” events and even offering a number of special benefits to bank employees who identify as “LGBT.”

Now, JPMorgan Chase has taken their LGBT support even further, reportedly requiring all their employees to voice whether or not they support the so-called “LGBT community”. According to Princeton University Professor Robert George, the bank recently surveyed their workers, asking them to state which of the following descriptions applied to them:…

Christian Bakery May Face Legal Action for Refusing to Bake ‘Gay’ Bert and Ernie Cake

NEWTONABBEY, North Ireland — A Christian bakery in Northern Ireland may face legal action after it recently refused to bake a Bert and Ernie cake bearing the phrase “Support gay marriage.”

In May of this year, Ashers Baking Company in Newtonabbey — founded by Christians and named after Genesis 49:20 — was approached by a same-sex “marriage” supporter to bake the cake, which also was to feature the logo for the homosexual advocacy group QueerSpace. According to the Belfast Telegraph, the cake was for an event in observance of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

The bakery, which has several locations throughout Northern Ireland, then sent the request to headquarters for review. General Manager Daniel McArthur, 24, told reporters that the company declined to bake the cake, explaining that same-sex “marriage” is against its Christian beliefs. Ashers Baking Company also offered a refund, which was accepted…

However, the customer, Gareth Lee, soon reported Ashers Baking Company to the Equality Commission of Northern Ireland, which in turn sent a warning to to McArthur, stating that he and his bakery had discriminated against Lee. Same-sex “marriage” is not legal in Northern Ireland, although laws have been passed throughout the rest of the UK.

More Demonizing of Christians Through Gay Comic Book Theme

Looks like it’s the end of Archie Andrews.

LOS ANGELES — Archie Andrews will die taking a bullet for his gay best friend. The famous freckle-faced comic book icon is meeting his demise in Wednesday’s installment of “Life with Archie” when he intervenes in an assassination attempt on Kevin Keller, Archie Comics’ first openly gay character. Andrews’ death, which was first announced in April, will mark the conclusion of the series that focuses on grown-up renditions of Andrews and his Riverdale pals.

“The way in which Archie dies is everything that you would expect of Archie,” said Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics publisher and co-CEO. “He dies heroically. He dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomizes not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It’s what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years.”

Those of us who grew up reading the fun-loving exploits of the kids at Riverdale High via the Archie Comic franchise might not have noticed the strange way that Archie and gang have “evolved” in the past few years under new ownership.

Planned Parenthood Performed Abortion on Teen, Returned Her to Sex Abuser: Shock Lawsuit

[WARNING: Disturbing Content.]

Planned Parenthood faces a legal challenge in Colorado after Cary Smith, of Federal Heights, says she discovered that clinic staff failed to inquire or report about suspected sexual abuse of her 13-year-old daughter after giving her an abortion.

It was any mother’s nightmare.

According to the lawsuit filed on June 20, 2014, Cary’s daughter, R.Z., was only about six years old when her new step-father, Timothy David Smith, began to sexually abuse her. At this age, she was too young to realize that her step-father’s inordinate attention was actually a crime.

‘Send an Ambulance’: Father Beats Homosexual Man Caught Raping 11-Year-Old

[WARNING: Graphic content.]

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The father of an 11-year-old boy recently beat a homosexual man senseless before calling police when he allegedly found the man in the act of sexually molesting his son.

The father, who has not been named, arrived home to find that his son’s 18-year-old babysitter, Raymond Frolander, was in bed with his child. He then beat Frolander severely and dragged him out to the living room before dialing 911.

“I just walked in on a grown man molesting [my son],” the father states in recorded 911 audio footage. “And I got him in a bloody puddle for you, officer.”

“Did you use any weapons?” the dispatcher asked.

“My foot and my fist,” the father replied. “I didn’t proceed to ask him any questions, sir. He is nice and knocked out on the floor for you. I drug him out to the living room. He stood up and his pants were around his ankles and nothing else needed to be said. I did whatever I got a right to do, except I didn’t kill him. Send an ambulance. He is going to need one.”

Thorpe and More Mindless Political Correctness

Oh puh-leeese. Now that Ian Thorpe has spilled the beans about being homosexual, you would think that he has just announced that he is the long-awaited Messiah. The MSM is going absolutely nutzo over the new revelations about the swimmer’s sexuality.

Those who reveal their homosexuality today are treated as being far greater than any war hero and far worthier of applause and recognition than any Nobel Prize laureate. It is incredible really. Up until recently almost everyone knew that this was a dangerous lifestyle which deserved no praise and promotion.

But now in our morally bankrupt world we have managed to turn vice into virtue, and virtue into vice. The only bad guys are now those who warn about what a dangerous and unhelpful lifestyle this actually is. The story goes like this:

Establishment Pushing “Cashless Society” To Control Humanity

The global establishment is increasingly pushing the notion of what it calls a “cashless society” — a world in which all payments and transactions would be conducted electronically, creating a permanent record for governments to inspect and track at will. Multiple governments from Africa and Asia to Europe and the Americas are explicitly working toward that goal, and in recent months, even more have joined the effort. Powerful globalist forces and organizations including the United Nations are helping, too. However, analysts are warning that the implications of such a shift would be nightmarish for liberty and privacy.

Proponents of the government-enforced move away from physical currency cite a wide array of potential real and imagined benefits. Among them: possible reductions in armed robbery, tax evasion, black-market commerce, the cost of printing and securing physical cash, and more. Critics, though, are warning of the dangerous and Orwellian schemes that could be unleashed in a world where out-of-control governments can monitor literally every purchase, transaction, and bit of economic activity. In light of the recently exposed NSA snooping scandal, the possibilities for abuse and total surveillance are more than hypothetical, obviously.

NASA Spacecraft Just One Year Away From Pluto

Less than a year from now, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft will make the first-ever visit to Pluto, potentially revolutionizing scientists’ understanding of the dwarf planet.

Because Pluto is so far away — it orbits the sun at an average distance of 3.65 billion miles (5.87 billion kilometers) — many questions about the dwarf planet’s composition and activity remain unanswered. Researchers hope New Horizons will lay some of those questions to rest when it flies by Pluto on July 15, 2015.

“Many predictions have been made by the science community, including possible rings, geyser eruptions, and even lakes,” Adriana Ocampo, program executive for NASA’s New Frontiers program, said in a statement. “Whatever we find, I believe Pluto and its satellites will surpass all our expectations and surprise us beyond our imagination.”

  1. RE: Alan Dershowitz’s article in Algemeiner: By Targeting Ben Gurion Airport, Has Hamas Ended the Prospects for a Two State Solution?

Attacking commercial airports is a war crime, according to Mr.Dershowitz. Really?

    As I recall…
Israel attacked the airport in Beirut in 2006
The US attacked the Baghdad airport in 2002

I am sure there are many other cases, that I don’t recall offhand.

I am an ardent Zionist and no leftist or supporter of Hamas or a ‘two state solution’. I simply would like our arguments to be honest and consistent.

    Destroy Hamas, IDF!!!

    • You see one has to ponder each case by case. Beirut airport was used by Arafat to import weapons to attack Israel in spite of Lebanon’s objection. Lebanon could not oppose the whole muslim world. It was helpless.
Attacking Baghdad airport was a different matter. They should have removed Saddam. They should not remove Assad. These two killed their enemies and the enemies of the West. Yes, Saddam was giving $25000 to any suicide bomber who killed Jews. They should have given him a stern warning to stop that. They encouraged him to attack Kuwait. They gave him chemical weapons and got tons of money, and then they said to him, ” You so and so, why do you have chemical weapons.” France gave him Nuclear Reactor. When you empower a criminal, you’re also criminal. When you import criminals and call them refugees, you are also a criminal. But they did not bomb Paris airport although it deserved it.
If a democracy’s policies end up destroying itself, just tell me why is it better than a dictatorship?

    • It seems that the more a country is “advanced claiming humane morals and lacking in faith” the more brain dead they are. Western people don’t like to factor in Judeo-Christian considerations, not to mention values, into western thinking. They think that by getting as far as possible from those two faiths, the better. They think that freedom means free from Judeo-Christian religion. And to prove that they embrace Islam, because it is its antithesis. And they don’t feel embarrassed despite of what Islam is doing around the world. Islam: Why do you have this power to blind the world? What’s your trick to get so lucky among the unlucky?

  2. I do not know this to be absolutely true but I just read on Twitter two separate accounts that all females between 11-45 yrs old in the city of Mosul be subject to FGM.
    Can anyone confirm?
