Make us Victorious Over the Tribe of Unbelievers

As we have reported extensively over the past week, a Muslim imam who was invited to participate in the “prayer for peace” event at the Vatican on June 8 went off-script and asked Allah to help him gain victory over the unbelievers. The Vatican at first denied that any such thing had happened, and an edited video of the event was released that supported their denial — the end of Sura 2 Verse 286 that the imam quoted from the Koran had been judiciously removed from the publicized version.

Below is the full video of the imam’s part of the Vatican ceremony, as provided by an Arabic TV channel. Many thanks to ritamalik for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the editing, subtitling, and general project management.

The translator notes that the personal prayer with which the imam concluded was not the controversial part of the ceremony, since his choice of prayer was generally unexceptional. His quotation of the last verse (286) of Sura 2 of the Quran, however, is what made his words controversial:

Dr. Andrew Bostom observed the following about two of the last three verses of the Koran’s second sura cited by the Muslim imam (i.e., verses 2:284, 2:285, and 2:286), as interpreted by two very important, authoritative Koranic commentaries, one by Qurtubi (d. 1273), and the other by Shafi (d. 1976):

Qurtubi (d. 1273) was a Muslim scholar of the Maliki school of jurisprudence and an expert on hadith who was also well-known for his commentary on the Koran. Qurtubi’s glosses on 2:285 and 2:286, includes these remarks:

[From, Tafsir al-Qurtubi: Classical Commentary of the Holy Qur’an, Vol. 1, 2003, London, p. 762, regarding 2:285, “We hear and obey”]

He [Allah] praised them in this ayat and removed from them the hardship they experienced about thoughts which occur to them. This favor is the fruit of obedience and devotion to Allah. What happened to the tribe of Israel was the opposite of that. They were censured and made to endure the hardships of abasement, wretchedness and exile since they said “We hear and disobey” (see Koran 2:293 and 4:46). Such is the result of disobedience and recalcitrance to Allah.

[From, Tafsir al-Qurtubi: Classical Commentary of the Holy Qur’an, Vol. 1, 2003, London, p. 767, regarding 2:286, “Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians)”]

“They endured hard things”…refers to being turned into pigs and monkeys (i.e., the Jews, Koran 5:60)…it means wrong actions for which there is no repentance or expiation.

Mufti Muhammad Shafi (d. 1976) was the author of Maariful Qur’an, which is the best-known work of tafsir (Koranic commentary) in Urdu. He also wrote more than three hundred books. In addition to his literary works, Mufti Muhammad Shafi broadcasted tafsir of the Koran on Radio Pakistan for a number of years. Here are relevant extracts from the Maariful Qur’an glosses on Koran 2:285 and 2:286:

[on verse 2:285; from p. 722 of Maariful Qur’an, Vol. 1, Karachi, 2009]:

…it was clearly stressed that the believers of this ummah (Muslim community) will do nothing that was done by past communities when they planted seeds of discord among messengers of Allah by accepting some as prophets and by denying the status of others. The Jews accepted Moses was a prophet, the Christians accepted that Jesus was a prophet, but that the last of the prophets, Muhammad was a prophet was not accepted by them.

[on verse 2:286; from p. 724 of Maariful Qur’an, Vol. 1, Karachi, 2009; After quoting from the verse, “Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear.]

…Indicated here are the sever restrictions placed on the Israelites [Jews]…Alternately it could mean that punishment should not visit us [Muslims] as it visited the Israelites following their evil deeds. In short, Allah Almighty bestowed His best when He promised the acceptance of all these prayers through his Messenger, the last among the, prophets.

  1. 3:59 Oh, Allah you are peace, and peace is from you,
The Imam means the peace that is granted to Muslims, who deserve it. No peace to non muslims.
4:04 and you bring us to life by peace.
(By “us” he means only muslims.
4:08 Safeguard countries and their people from war and destruction.
    He means only muslim countries.
4:12 Make the downtrodden of this world victorious, oh Lord of The Worlds.
I don’t think he means those downtrodden and abused by muslims in Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Indonesia, India, Kashmir, Britain, Ireland, France, Sweden, Norway, Australia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Kenya, Libya, Tunisia, virtually everywhere.
4:19 Make victorious those whose blood has been spilled and those who are bereaved I don’t think he means blood of Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, that is spilled by muslims every day of the year. He is referring to those who are killed by Israel when it defends its existence.
4:27 and those who have been displaced and threatened upon your earth, oh Lord of the Worlds.
I don’t think he is referring to those Jews and Christians and Hindus who are displaced from Iraq (especially Baghdad), from Egypt, From Morocco to Australia, and recently from Sweden, Britain, France, The Netherlands . . .
4:35 Have mercy on humanity through your grace
He means mercy only to muslims. By humanity he means muslims because from outside they look like humans in shape and contour.
4:40 until just and complete peace will reign which will give every person his rights to life.
Notice the word “until”. Until all Jews, Christians and infidels are eliminated by them, then there will be “complete” peace. Did you notice “complete” As long as there is an inch inhabited by non-muslims the peace is incomplete.
4:49 “Free is your Lord, Lord of glory from what they ascribe to him.
He means allah is free from what Jews and Christians “ascribe” to him: Like the son of God, Trinity, our Father.
Muslims never ascribe fatherhood to allah. They consider themselves abbeed or slaves of allah. Not a very mentally healthy relationship.

4:53 And peace be unto the messengers and praise be to the Lord of the Worlds. Amen.”
By “messenger” the Imam means Muhammad, who will lead only his followers who carry swords and have scars of war killing infidels, to Janna or paradise.

By “amen” he asks allah, who grans their wishes, readily when they carry swords, to answer their request of keeping muslims and destroying everyone else.
Western politicians and pope please go back to sleep there is no imminent danger yet.

  2. “You tell us that if we don’t accept you as a prophet you will kill us, and if we do accept you as a prophet we have to kill for you? Uh, we’re not really into killing. Are you sure that it was Gabriel who gave you that revelation? What kind of god would want us to murder, rape, plunder, and take slaves in order to spread the Good News of salvation?
Won’t people just fake conversion in order to not be beheaded? Just wondering. If God wants people who don’t believe in him dead, why doesn’t he just send a plague or something?”

  3. Got to give it to you Baron, you have certainly persevered with this one to get it right.

So a BIG WELL DONE to you!

  4. I suspect there are certain proprietary terms the Al-Azaar imam used in his personal remarks that need scrutiny as well. Remember, when muslims use terms like justice, peace, religion and so on, they typically mean highly proprietary things which all muslims recognize as well as recognize that non-muslims do not see them this way.

For example, religion means islam, as the appearance of Mohamed abrogated all previous religions rendering them invalid to muslims. So religion is only islam. That sort of thing.

    • It’s vital to remember Peter Drucker’s simple dictum about any conversation: communication is always the act of the recipient.

That’s why good teachers live out his idea: they make students repeat what they’ve been told so they can ascertain how much of what the teacher said in front of the classroom was retained by the students in their seats. One great source of information for the teacher often turns out to be the students’ nightmare: frequent applications of “pop quizzes” – i.e., no announcement ahead of time for a brief quiz, usually at the beginning of class time. A good teacher, especially at the beginning of a term, can use these surprise tests to uncover his students’ strengths and weaknesses. A good teacher will be able to pinpoint problems early on and the students will forgive him if they trust his intentions. Justice is a big item in submitting oneself to the process of learning anything. Kids never forget the good ones, the Mr. Chips of the world.

A poor teacher will blame hia students, but that attitude causes an information block immedately. Not free to say what they see, a vicious spiral is established as the students duck, avoid, and passively obstruct what could have been a learning experience. Or rather, what the student DOES learn causes classrooms to devolve into multi-part “Lord of the Flies” sessions. Instead of the virtuous cycle described above, the students are left on a hamster wheel, a sense of spiraling doom…the stories I’ve read about childhood memories of their time in madrassahs reflect this.

I once took classes in catechesis from a Belgian theologian; she was a gifted teacher because she made us feel smart. I don’t remember much of it now, though I’m sure I could dredge up those ideas re Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, or the stages of spiritual awareness as Kagan tied them in w/ Piaget’s notions of the template that childhood moral maturation follows.

One thing she said stayed with me: before you teach a child to say the Our Father, know that child well enough to understand at least superficially his relationship with his own dad. Otherwise you can do more harm than good.

That was pre-Islam, when intention and moral development mattered…

So when we learn to listen for what’s underneath Islam’s trickster talk, we’re inside the duplicitous imam’s OODA loop. This move on our part predictably causes holy outrage. Sacred vows about our future when they finally become the folks in charge of everything.

  5. Pope on line 1; says “tell Baron thanks but no thanks, I’ll just have a big helping of that dhimmi taquiyya”

    • He really said that, huh? Imagine. Obviously YOU are connected…

I saw a website about a Catholic monastery here in VA and got sidetracked with their building information. Fascinating, low tech and knowledgeable.

What they write about the socialists in charge in Rome is disheartening…

  6. It fascinates me why my computer does not pick up the audio on this particular YouTube, and yet 1) all other YouTubes work fine on my computer and 2) nobody else seems to have this audio problem.

  7. I really thought The Vatican would resist Islam for at least a little longer. Now things are really speeding up. Perhaps Francis will be the very last Pope? I had my suspicions when I heard a South American had been elected Pope. The have a history of mixing marxism and religion down there. And what really happened with Benedict? Very mysterious the way he left the stage.

  8. This was a supremacist prayer from beginning to end. The mullah craftily slapped down Christian the doctrine of the Trinity in the capital of Christianity. He craftily condemned Jews and Christians. He craftily prayed for the military victory of Moslems.
