For those of you who missed last night’s post about EMPs and the vulnerability of the US electrical grid, here is an abbreviated video of Former CIA director James Woolsey’s introduction to the CSP panel discussion.

Good presentation by Woolsey on the fragility of a high tech civilization.
“…Nobody is really in charge of security for the grid.” So, the keepers of the watch aren’t at the gates.
About 19:43 in the video (referring to a post EMP event) he states “…so farmers tractors don’t work so try and figure out how to grow food for all of us, we have about 2% of the American population growing food, we used to take 40-50% to feed the rest of us, now it takes 2%, if none of their electrical gear works try to imagine…”
That’s a snapshot of a 1st world society dangling by a thread.
Use technology if it’s there, but even without it you should know how to live. A fishing pole, a shotgun and good neighbors are still going to work after an EMP. Live local, live basic. The watch keepers are not at the gates.

Became aware of nuclear blast EMP in the early nineteen-eighties while doing construction work in the UK. The failure to protect utility and national infrastructure such as the power supply grid in part has been down to the nineteen-eighties mantra of deregulation and the false assumption that market forces in the private sector will by default ensure against all loss – including national security.
As the former CIA director would have thought that James Woolsey would have had the vulnerability of the civilian infrastructure to EMP covered when he was in office.
The SHARING and pilfering of the West’s knowledge base should be of even greater concern to these intelligence warriors, as it was the sharing and pilfering of British know-how that enabled the Imperial Japanese Navy to bomb Pearl Harbor.
