India and the West have much in common when it comes to Islamic supremacism and the suppression of religious freedom. India’s Muslim minority, which is at least 15%, is proportionally larger than in any Western country, with the possible exception of France.
Today the International Civil Liberties Alliance launched a new working relationship with an group based in India called International Unity For Equality. According to the ICLA press release:
ICLA Enters Alliance With India Based International Unity For Equality (IUFE)
17 February 2013. The International Civil Liberties Alliance (ICLA) is pleased to announce that it is now working with the India based International Unity for Equality (IUFE). It will be working with them on projects relating to blasphemy laws and also projects relating to bonded labour.
ICLA’s Chris Knowles said:
“We are delighted to be working with people from the Indian subcontinent who face very similar challenges to human rights that we face in the West. People in India and Pakistan suffer a great deal due sharia inspired activities. We look forward to the great things that we will achieve in partnership with our new friends.”
IUFE’s Executive Director Zemira Eli Natan announced on its website:
“We look forward to our future joint projects in the near future and attendance at scheduled conferences!”

India certainly does have a problem… when I visited in 2011, almost everywhere I went, the call to prayer could be heard. This being in the South – in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu – historically places with very low Muslim populations, compared to the North.
Commendable. International outreach can only help, for all involved.
